I wear this bag (in black) on my waist most of the time, and it is ideal for hiking, travel, when you want to have essential items safe, organized and available. Although Overland markets this bag to women, it doesn't have any gender-specific characteristics, and looks like a shoulder bag, but the way the strap is contoured it fits on the waist just as well. It is very well made, has great pockets, key clip, and a wide strap. My wife also wanted to borrow it, so I bought her one as a present, as well as a larger Overland bag, that has now replaced her stylish but clunkier "handbag."

I hate big purses, but I seem to seem to need to carry around a lot of stuff. I had a really comfy medium sized rugged purse from REI that I could fit anything into, but with only the 2 compartments I would have to dig for 5 minutes to find anything. That said, I LOVE MY OVERLAND BAG! This purse has tons and tons or compartments and organization to keep it all accessible. I managed to fit most of what was in the other purse in this one, but it doesn't look overfull. It still closes up and secures nicely and I know where everything is. Its wonderful. I got the brown so that my husband wouldn't feel overly girly using it as a fanny pack if the need should ever arise. I can't fit my small travel umbrella or a water bottle in this one, but I hear Overland does make another bag that will..

I just received my Bayliss -- thanks for the wicked fast shipping! Ripped open the packaging and transferred all my stuff from my current purse and wallet (lipsticks, Blistex, pens, tissues, Altoids, comb, Purell, and misc. other junk....) Wow, it took everything including my sunglasses, cell phone and camera and I still have room! Smaller in format than my everyday purse and holds more. No need for a separate wallet as the Bayliss has plenty of card holders and a cash pocket. Was concerned about the security of my passport for travel, but with two zippered compartments, there is plenty of secure space right against your body to thwart pickpockets.

Very impressed with the engineering of this purse: it holds against the body so that it does not bump around. I am using it as a cross body purse and it's very comfortable; the strap is not too wide or narrow and does not cut into the shoulder. On vacation I plan to use it as a front pack, and there again, it cups into your hip so that it does not hang out waiting to get clipped. I think the only thing they did not do was to add an open pocket in the back where you can stuff receipts, but it probably would have defeated the "hugability" of the design.

The quality of the material and craftsmanship are very very good and I expect that I will be using this for years to come. My new Bayliss is replacing a ancient Eagle Creek convertible purse/waist pack that is so faded it's too embarrassing to use in public. It's taken me awhile to find another purse to trust and love, but I finally have found one. Thanks Overland Equipment for making a terrific purse! Now, let's talk about Bayliss in leather...

The Bayliss is not waterproof but is highly water resistent ballistics cloth nylon. For a bag to be considered waterproof, it would have to be seamsealed and most companies do not do that at the purse/"around town" level nor price. I bet the Bayliss could be treated with an external waterproofing for synthetics, like Grangers, and it would repel the water quite well. And there is always a plastic bag for the treats.
