You might be thinking—oh yes, convertible pants, I've seen those before. But when you zip off the bottoms of the prAna Women's Convertible Pants, you're suddenly sporting kicker-length pants. This means when you're out climbing, you have the option of cooling the bottoms of your legs without exposing your knees to rock scrapes. The Convertible Pants' durable, wicking fabric feels comfortable on climbs and hikes.
Bottom Line: Convert to knickers, or not, with prAna's Convertible Pants.
These are my favorite climbing pants! My knees are always getting thrashed and these protect them better than shorts. The fabric is better than my cotton roll up climbing pants, I don't sweat through the butt as easy on my approach hikes. They are easy to zip on and off. They stay put under my harness. Plenty of give for long reaches with my legs. I've done tons of climbs in them when it's hot or cold and always been comfortable. The only signs of wear they show after numerous climbing trips is spilled bacon greese from camp. I have them in two colors and they are AMAZINGLY flattering. They turn my whitty pancake butt into a genuine booty! Gray is by far my favorite.
I bought these pants in the stone color and totally love them. Just took them on a sailing trip in a warm climate and they were perfect as they dry quickly and look great on. I would have loved for them to be a tad longer though...I'm 5'8 and the 6 fits me well but just barely long enough.
I am 5"10 and weighing about 125-130 lbs. I usually wear size 2 for my jeans and my Columbia pants are around 4-6. What size should I get for these pants?
All day spring hiking in Zion. These were perfect through the hot sun and the still snowy spots. I thought this non action photo would be helpful to show how great the fit is.
I love these pants! It's really hard to find hard wearing but comfortable and even fashionable pants. Fashion usually means cheesy non-existent pockets and thin fabric that rips if you move. I recently took these on a backpacking trip through chaparral, snow, water, and mud and these held up great.
The material dries fast, is slightly stretchy to allow give when you climb over trees and rocks, and FUNCTIONAL cargo pockets. (It's like someone actually thought about the design!) No nicks, broken threads, snags, or holes in the fabric. And like I said, I'm pretty tough on my stuff. They are a little long on me - I'm 5'4" but they can easily be hemmed. Better long than short. And that should be good news for taller people.
The fit and the style are amazing. I'm not kidding when I say these pants look sexy, on. I wore them everywhere last year. Backpacking into a high alpine lake; these pants took it all in stride. Very comfortable but rugged. My daughter stole them, and now she's wearing them everywhere. I had to go buy another pair. Great pants!
I like these pants a lot. The rise is low, but a little longer than the Tenaya pant and the 70's cords (which are super low). The back is clean-looking, with two pockets. The fit seems very flattering, as well as comfortable. They run a bit big, but they have a draw string, so you can have the comfort of a slightly looser fit, but won't lose them if you use the string.
I absolutely love these prAna pants. They are exceptionally comfortable and a great length for a convertible. When I zip off the bottom of the pants they still look cool. Been climbing, hiking, and multi-day backpacking and haven't been let down yet. The cargo cut is cute- and the flap-pocket back makes for a good butt! They run a bit big for the size - but I liked the slight size up and kept them anyway - still really flattering.
I absolutely love these pants. I can get away with wearing them to work (black) and out hiking. I am not usually a fan of convertible pants because I never really convert them and mainly because of the weird fit but these fit great and I have actually taken the legs off a few times when I got too hot, and it was convenient. Easy to put the legs back on too. I am 5'8" and usually wear a size 10, but went with the smaller size 8 and it fits great. Would highly recommend.
I have two pairs of these pants, and often wonder if I should just buy a pair that I won't use for outdoor activities because I think they are quite nice just to wear, especially with the bottoms halves zipped off.
For rockclimbing, the pants are stretchy, so they don't inhibit any movement, and they are also tough material and won't tear when they are scraped against rock.
I have worn these hiking a lot as well. They can get a bit warm in hot temperatures, but are fine when you zip off the bottoms. They are not quick drying, but will eventually dry out. Ultimately, they are really comfortable.
The only problem is the draw string waist. When you are carrying a heavy pack for long periods of time, the draw string can rub against your hips - not too comfortable and needs to be adjusted. If you can get a away with not using the draw string, I'd go for that.
That being said, sizes fit smaller than other pants, and eventually stretch out a bit. Washing them brings them back to size slightly, but for the most part they are a bit big on me now.
I got these last year. Loved the style and fit. Very comfortable and rugged. Wore them everywhere. Backpacking into a high alpine lake; and these pants took it all in stride. My daughter stole them and now she wears them everywhere. I had to go get another pair. Great pants!
My roommate and I are pretty similar sizes but my hips are a little bigger. She bought a size 8 from REI and I loved the way they looked but the size 8 was way too small for me. So I ordered a size 10 from backcountry (the green ones in the photo). Whoa. These pants are huge! from the waist to the butt, to the opening at the bottom (notice that my feet are absolutely swallowed by the pants)- everything about them is BIG. I was in a tricky situation because I knew I didn't fit in an 8 but the 10 was gigantic. Luckily I tried on a pair of the same pants in a size 10 at an REI and, miracle of miracles, they fit perfectly. Weird.
Love these! I've tried out a bunch of the convertible pans and these are the best I've found. The legs are wide and long enough. I'm 5'11'', so they might be a little to long for petite girls. The fit is very flattering, even the zipped off version looks great. I plan on another pair.
I was looking at the prAna Women's Convertible Pant and I was wondering if there was any way I could get them in a size 16 long in urban or black. Thanks
Unfortunately they don't come in an actual size of 16, but they do fit big. You may fit the 12/14 just fine. My wife had to size down 1 size so I would say to check out the XL and see if it will work. Great pants!
I love these pants. The fit is fantastic, and they are super comfortable. I am 5'4", 118 lbs, and the 2 was a perfect fit. It's so cool to have such great looking pants for hiking that are also extremely practical. I would definitely buy them again.
These are the most amazing convertible pants! They are the only convertibles I've ever tried that are actually flattering. The material is substantial enough that it looks dressy and doesn't end up looking like baggy clown pants like all the others:) I have the black and you can't even tell they are zip-offs due to the design. I think they could pass for dress pants if you are traveling. I've worn them several times with the bottoms zipped off and the length is really stylish/cute. These are a winner-I would highly recommend. They could be the only travel pants you need.
These pants are comfortable, stylish, and are made of great material, the only problem was the length. I'm 5'6" and I had to take the hem up about 3 inches. Now that I don't have to trip over them, I will wear them often.
I bought these pants for my trip to India, where I was going to be up in the cool north of the Himalayas and then down in the very hot south in Chennai. I wore these pants for 4 days straight up north and wore them in between traveling from north to south. I wore long underwear under them; between that and their wind resistance, I was warm while I was in the north.
These pants were a little long for me, but I hemmed them up and they were great. They fit really well everywhere else. I didn't actually ever zip them off (you aren't supposed to show your knees in India!), but I like the length of the where they do zip off. I've tried them at home and expect to wear them zipped off for biking this summer. The cargo pockets are really helpful as well for quickly stuffing keys and such in there.
i bought these last year and they are my favorite pants. i wear them so often i wanted to buy another pair but this year's convertible pant uses a different fabric that is far less comfortable and attractive. the fabric is a little shiny and is less soft. still good pants but not as good.
I love these pants...got them in black. I think its pretty true to size. I am 5'6", about 122 lbs and I got them in size 2 and it fits perfectly. It's very comfortable. I'm planning to wear this on a 14-hour flight to Asia. I need the long pants to keep me warm when flying out of San Francisco and when I land in Asia where its warm, I will zip off the bottom part and I'll still be comfortable and cool.
I never thought I would ever buy convertible pants (never been a fan of the mid-leg zipper look), but I really do like these. I think the fact that they are more like capris when you zip off the lower legs helps with the zipper-leg thing (the zipper hem is lower and less obvious when you have the full pant zipped together). I've climbed in them a bit - the material is just stretchy enough, and it's nice to have the bottoms to zip on when it gets chilly. They also have a nice "cargo" style, and the pockets in back and the low rise (on me, anyway) prevent the mom-butt look.
The quality was what I expected from prAna, but the fit was off. The waist on the size 6 was huge and the length was a bit long. I didn't want to pay to have them altered. I ended up with a pair of Mountain Hardware convertible pants in size 6 regular...perfect fit!
Absolutely love these pants! They look good short or long and the short are modest enough for international travel. My pair has been to Thailand - traveling, rock climbing, swimming...And I use them all the time for hiking here in the States. They wash up well--no stains, keep their shape, haven't fallen apart yet. It's been 6 months and about 1 wash per week. Sizing: I'm 5'7", 135-140 lbs. with an hourglass shape. I bought a size 6. They fit snugly and still allow plenty of room for movement. ENJOY!
