Yakima Swingdaddy 4 Bike Rack

Even when it's loaded with bikes, the Yakima Swingdaddy 4 Bike Rack moves out of the way to allow access to the back of your car or SUV. Unlike other hitch racks that have to be unloaded and folded down to let you open the back of your rig, the Swingdaddy Bike Rack folds to the side much like a spare-tire rack. Thanks to this Yakima rack, you don't have to unload all of your bikes at a gas station when you realize two-hours into your trip that you left your iPod in the pack that's under everything else.

Bottom Line: Don't let your bikes keep you out of your car .

I decided on the swingdaddy over the others because of its larger size and features. It was super easy to install and use. The rack does not sway on the road and moves out of the way when you need to get in the truck for your gear. I LOVE this rack and do recommend it to all the world. If you can get your hands one one of these baby's

I can't say for sure that it won't work, but wouldn't recommend it. You may have enough room to hang your bike, it would be tilted like a traditional woman's bike would be when on the rack. The major downside for you if there is even enough clearance, your bike would be resting on the suspension, and that could cause you more problems down the road.

I recommend spending the extra money and going with something like the Thule T2 or Yakima Hold Up. Personally, I prefer (and own) the T2.

Swingdaddy

This is a great bike rack! Easy to mount, bikes are steady and the swinging feature is fabulous! So very glad we spent the extra money! We also ordered the deadlock and hitchlock which later we found out the rack already came with. Yipee! So those items we returned which, by the way, was a breeze! Thanks Backcountry!

I have a Toyota 4-runner, 1999. In the Yakima website it says that the Swingdaddy won't work. I have a tow package and don't see how it wouldn't work any ideas on why or why not. I have a 2" receiver and it sticks out past my bumper.

Swing Daddy Baby!

The rack is great exactly what I wanted. The only issue I have had is the chain straps somehow stained my Pearl paint on our road bikes. Maybe use a rag or towel in between if you have expensive paint! Otherwise it is awesome!!!!

If I understood your question right, then yes. The pivot point is at the far right side of the black bar at the bottom of the photo. The silver bar (with Yakima written on it) stays vertical and the bar with the bikes hanging on it stays horizontal, but it all pivots out to the side of the car.

Learning curve

Great idea for getting the bikes out of the way, but not great for carrying unusual frames. If they made a Hold Up rack that swung out, that's the rack I'd get. Figure out how you're going to keep the tires from rotating on long trips (scrunchies on brake levers). Should come with a bag of bungies so you can keep the oversized frame tubes from walking out of the holders. Needed to remove the straps from the rack in order to get the inside bike on and off. Much more time consuming effort than the Hold Up. Worked well once I overcame these issues.

I have a 2007 Rav4, will the rack swing far enough out of the way to allow for me to open the rear door all the way? I'm concerned about the spare tire coming into contact with the rack. Thanks!

My parents bought themselves the same car, and I've stolen a shop rack to put on it when I take my dad out riding. You won't be able to open the door all the way since it's a swinging instead of raising door, but there's enough room to work around with to grab your gear in the back.

Not Exactly Women Bike Friendly

For those who have a wife and daughter(s) with Bikes, you will need an adapter ($40 each). It would have been nice if Yakima mentions this in any of its brochures or ads.
