Yakima HullRaiser Aero Water Roof Rack w/ Tie Down

The Yakima HullRaiser Aero Water Roof Rack uses a J-cradle design, which holds a kayak on its side. This takes up little roof space and allows quick, easy loading. The HullRaiser Aero Water Roof Rack fits on nearly any factory crossbars, so you don't have to dish out any dough for fancy adapters. Yakima includes tie-down straps for total security, so you don't get to the put-in and wonder where you lost your boat.

Bottom Line: The Yakima HullRaiser Aero Water Roof Rack lets you load your boat without using up so much room that you can put anything else on top of your car.

generally speaking the wider apart the bars are, the more stable your roof load will be. that having been said, the measurement should be taken from the inside edges of both bars (back side of the front bar, front side of the back bar)

GREAT RACK!!

By:
June 25, 2008

I recently used our hullraiser aero this past weekend and took our 9 foot kayak and our 14 foot kayak to Lake Powell. It was great!! My only complaint is that the 14 foot kayak seemed to sway quite a bit more than I would have liked. We hit a spot on the way home where the winds picked up to about 40 or 50 mph and I thought it was going to rip the 14 foot kayak and rack right off the roof. The 9 foot boat didn't have any problems at all. I think with a boat that long it would have been better to use the mako saddles but the hullraiser worked perfect with our 9 foot kayak. All in all it was a GREAT rack!!!

Write your question here...Hello I have a 2002 explorer with a factory roof rack will two old town casco kayaks a 10' and a 12' with these racks support this weight. They really are not that heavy

The HullRaiser will support the weight, but you need to make sure your factory rack will. I would recommend checking the weight limit on your Ford Explorer's factory rack to make sure it isn't exceeded by the weight of the two kayaks. If it doesn't you should be fine. Yakima warns against overloading your factory rack which should be your primary concern here.

Excellent Product

Used this system for several trip already in New Jersey including Split Rock Reservoir, Delaware River, and Island Beach State Park from the Clifton area. Did not loose any kayaks (two on top of a small crossover) while on both the Parkway and backcountry dirt roads. Make sure to use the included straps as they are key and extremely useful. After a few trips you can get the system down to about 10 minutes for putting it on your car with the kayaks if you have 2 people.

Write your answer here...The Hullraiser is a fantastic rack and it depends upon the bar width and capacity of your Factory rack. You will need to check with your factory load capacity to make sure hat you are not overloading the rack and exceeding the rack capcity. You can find this on your Roof rack, or in the owners manual. Though this is a great factory rack, you do need to stay within the load capacity of the Factory Rack.

very sturdy

This makes traveling with a kayak nice. Very sturdy and easy to assemble. I have a 2004 toyota 4 runner and these fit perfect on the factory racks. It takes about 2 minutes to put these on and about 10 minutes for us to load the tandem yak. Once the kayak is tied down it will not move even at 55 mph.

I have two ocean kayaks that I've been carrying in the back

I have two ocean kayaks that I've been carrying in the back of a short bed pickup - not ideal. Any idea if the HullRaiser Aero (2 of them) will work on the top of an Envoy's factory installed roof rack?

You should be able to fit 2 of these on top of your Envoy, but you will need a Universal Mighty Mount for them to be compatible.

Not necessarily, but I would use wise judgement when driving. You should easily be able to drive the speed limit on a freeway (75mph) without any problems. If there are crosswinds, I would be careful to make sure they boats are tied down very securely. If you feel good about how they are tied down, you shouldn't have any issues with driving speeds.
