The Yakima Control Towers in conjunction with Landing Pads will replace Yakima Locking RailRiders as a quick ‘n' easy-to-install rack. Control Towers snap solidly into Landing Pads (required; our item no. YAK0080) which fit into almost every factory track. Throw in crossbars, and voila! you have yourself a Yakima base rack that carries a full load of gear. Bombproof Rack System

Control Tower is the best rack system I have had on any of my trucks. They make taking to rack on and off really easy. Important when gas prices are high. They are really secure, when you rotate the tab into place it pushs rods outward into the landing pad for a secure hold. Lock the tower and your off to the races! It used to take me more than a half hour to install or remove my rack. Now it takes less than five minutes. This system should get a gear award!

I have an 03 Saturn ION to which I would like to attach a tent

I have an 03 Saturn ION to which I would like to attach a tent (see: http://www.cartopcamper.com). The empty tent weighs about 110 LBS. When my husband and I are in the tent with our gear, the weight is close to 500 lbs. However, half of this weight is supported by the ladder. Would the Yakima Control Tower work for us?

Yes, just buy the appropriate landing pads and get the drill out. I put a pair on my Tacoma with a ARE shell, had no problems, no leaking... that said make sure you check your measurements out before drilling! Take your time...
