Western Mountaineering Antelope Super DL: 5 Degree Down

The Western Mountaineering Antelope Super DL: 5 Degree sleeping bag allows you to bound into the most frigid climates without a care. When the Sierras or the Rockies are your usual destinations, and you need the maximum protection from your bag, leave nothing to chance with our Antelope Super. Its roomy 62" shoulder girth allows for comfort and the 7" loft from 26oz of high lofting down provides warmth down to 5 degrees. The security of this bag is sealed with a full 3-dimensional down filled Super Collar and a robust draft tube. Our DryLoft 830 shell fabric is the lightest weight and most compressible DryLoft available. It is the most water resistant, breathable fabric for sleeping bags. This bag has the collar and a draft tube completely made with DryLoft fabric to create an impenetrable seal. These Antelopes take over in early spring and last till late fall. At a total weight of 2lb, 13oz, they are the most substantial 3-season bag available. -Vendor

Bottom Line: Where do antelopes go in the winter? This one heads for the high country.

ALL WM Bags are worth the Xtra $

Four season bag in many areas, three plus in the rest. Warm & lightweight plus water resistant. Many times it's too warm to fully zip up. Can be used as a down comforter if this is the case. Roomy all the way around & sooooo
comfy. If you can imagine what it would be like to sleep in a warm cloud, the Antelope would be it!

Is the Dryloft 830 shell fabric equal to a goretex type fabric?

I think the Dry Loft fabric in sleeping bags is actually better than Gore-Tex. It has the same properties but it's lighter weight & not as noisy! BTW, Western Mountaineering is now using Gore Windstopper instead of DryLoft in their newer sleeping bags.

Great Bag

If you are looking for a down bag to keep you warm, this is your bag. If there's anything you can say bad about this bag, it might be that it is too warm. I have taken this bag on several trips, and, many times, while the people I was with were putting on everything they had before going to bed, I was taking layers off.

Does the Antelope have the same amount of down on the bottom

Does the Antelope have the same amount of down on the bottom side of the bag as the top side? I am a side sleeper so I would like equal amounts of insulation all around the bag. Ken.

The Antelope SDL has continuous baffles which means the down can be shifted or adjusted within the bag's circumference to where you want it. The opposite of this is side blocked baffles which means the down is confined to either the bottom or top of the bag.

Fantastic bag

I bought an antelope a few years ago and love it. The quality is second to none and it will keep you warm, maybe too warm. I find myself stripping down and leaving it unzipped almost every time I've been in this bag it's so warm. I'm around 5'11" and got the long (6'6"). It leaves enough room to stuff clothes down in the bottom to keep 'em warm for the morning, and if you're prone to cold feet, it helps that situation.

The one thing I would add to the bag, is a little velcro pouch on the inside for watch/headlamp/etc.

Though the price is steep, WM makes some of the best bags out there that will last you a lifetime.

Man, this bag sure is warm. I have the Microfiber version and I slept in it on a trip up Mt. San Jacinto and the temps plummeted to 8F. I was really, really warm and had to peel off some layers of clothing. I'm an average sleeper (neither hot nor cold) but this bag made me think I was a hot sleeper when I'm really not! Western Mountaineering has the most conservative rating in the industry it seems and this bag is no exception. Damn the price and get one.
