Volkl Grizzly Alpine Ski w/ Motion iPT Wide Ride 12.0 D Binding

The Volkl Grizzly Alpine Ski harnesses Volkl's cutting-edge techno-wizardry to balance exceptional performance with versatility. With a footprint wide enough to float through powder and a sidecut ample enough to slice fast groomer turns, there's seemingly nothing this ski isn't good at.

  • A revolutionary Power Switch system tightens carbon fiber rods within the ski when you turn a dial on the ski
  • These carbon fiber rods either stiffen or soften the ski's flex for a customized soft or hard snow ride
  • Extended Double Grip construction adds height to the ski edge from tip to tail for additional support and leverage
  • Extended Sensorwood core consists of high-performance poplar and beech, milled and shaped for optimal power transfer
  • Titanium reinforcement in the core dampens vibrations at high speeds and in choppy conditions
  • Motion iPT Wide Ride Binding is incorporated into the ski's construction for an unparalleled interface
  • Binding's wide shape matches the ski's shape for ultra-efficient power transfer

Bottom Line: The best of both worlds--take performance into any conditions.

X-alpine Snowboarder Turned True Believer

By:
January 26, 2010

With the advent of shorter fatter skis, in '09 I decided to demo both the Volkl Grizzly and the AC50. I ended up purchasing the Griz. because I loved the way it holds on hard snow and carves like a dream. It was like taking your long stiff alpine snowboard and giving it independent suspension. You can literally take your center of mass and throw it down the hill and these skis will come around and scoop you right up. Turn initiations going back up the hill, wow.

Compared to the AC50, the Grizzlies are easier to load, smoother and more playful. You really had to stay on top of the AC50 and drive your weight into them in order to get them to flex. The 50's also felt heavier and more like a race ski than something I wanted to play on all day.

I have not played around with the power switch in the tail of the Grizzlies very much. I just turned the dial to Dynamic and let her rip.

I am 5' 11" and 195 lbs. I purchased the 170 cm. Grizzly because of the short turn radius and the playfulness of the ski. In the future and as I get better off the groomies I will probably purchase the 177 cm. or the 184 cm. length ski but for now I am having a blast.

Fine, but not great

for all the hype.... this is nowhere near the best ski in volkls line up. It was much softer than the AC 50. It lacked the edge hold I expected. I could not feel any noticeable change when I played with the switch. Overall, I would say save the money and buy the AC 50 or 40.
