Victorinox Classic Swiss Army Knife - 2008

There's a thread unraveling from your shirt, you just got a splinter, and you have a package from the post office that says “Open immediately, box will self-destruct in ten seconds”. Oh, and there's something stuck in your teeth. All you need is the Victorinox Classic Swiss Army Knife. Slip this sleek pocket knife out of your pocket and get to work while your buddy struggles to pull his ten-pound pocket knife (equipped with five knives, a circulating saw, and a kitchen blender) out of his backpack. Tell him no thanks, you have everything you need in your Classic Swiss Army Knife.

Bottom Line: Small, sleek, simple.

Good n' Handy

People, this knife isn't used for whittling or hacking or splaying open flesh to quarter an animal...it's a pocket knife. And it's good for what it is. I have used this thing for opening packages, mail, cutting twine, small stuff, etc. etc. I use the scissors for small tasks like cutting my finger/toenails when I can't find my clippers. The file for sanding my nails after their cutting. The small flathead for adjusting glasses or whatever. It's handy. Also, the toothpick is fantastic for after meals and the tweezers for splinters and ticks. This is just a small knife to keep on you when you go into the city or on a date or to the grocery or post office. I do agree that the keyring could be on the opposite side but it doesn't deserve 1 star for Victorinox deciding to put it there. The knife does what it does when it needs to be done. Period.

Does the fingernail blade have a point to clean your fingernail

Does the fingernail blade have a point to clean your fingernail or is it a flat tip for driving small screws? The picture appears that it is a point, which is what I want.

Not rugged enough for the outdoors.

This knife will get small jobs done. I don't take it backpacking, I just throw it in my bag whenever I go on road trips or vacations. For backpacking and camping I use my CRKT K.I.S.S. with a serrated blade because it is more rugged. I never liked the plastic handles on the Victorinox knives. Overall its a good knife to just have around.

Ring's on wrong side

By:

If you plan on keeping a knife on your keychain, I suggest you go with Wenger's version (also available here).

Due to the side the ring is on, when you have the knife attached to anything, cutting with it is somewhat awkward.

Wenger's ring position makes more sense as whatever's attached to the knife will protrude from the back of the hand, which is more natural.
