Would you like the support of a leather boot without the extended break-in periods? The Vasque Clarion GTX hiking boot is built with a Bimodial insole for increased support in this fabric and leather boot. No longer will you have to get new boots a month in advance to break them in for a weekend in the hills. With fabric components, this boots will be ready in a couple days. Tough enough for week-long backpacking trips, the Clairon GTX also has a Gore-Tex liner to keep your feet dry, whether your excursion's in August or October.
Bottom Line: Fabric boot performance with leather boot support.
I have been wearing thiese boots for 13 years now, well not the same pair. This is the first time buying them online though. I am very pleased with the service, and more so with the price! As for the boots: the best boots I have ever worn, very warm in winter, yet cool in sommer (no sweaty feet). They are very light-weight, and have great ankle suport, and stay very dry. I will buy thiese again!
i have had this shoe for about 4 years now,and have not yet seem to destroy the dang things. the are comfy warm and very durable. any time i need to do go into back country, or as simple as a trip to the local grocery store i use these boots. i highly recommend these boats and have had only positive experience's with them.
I got these boots because my dad had an older pair that were a tiny bit too small for me but i really liked. the new pair was a little bit stiff at first, but they quickly broke in and now i use them all the time. Whether its hiking in the mountains, or walking to school in the snow, these boots are a great buy.
Because of Backcountry's great warranty, you can order them and see if they work. Break them in, hike a few hundred miles in them, and if you decide they aren't for you, send them back and get a full refund.
The last two years my feet have suffered on the 1st 338 miles of the AT. I needed a wide size and these babies fit the bill. They have broken in pretty fast. Faster than any pair I have ever owned. The price was so good that I also bought a 2nd pair. I am looking forward to next year's AT section Hike.
Bought my first pair of hiking boots 8 years ago and it is finally time to replace them. Never thought I would find the same make and model but I have and now I look forward to 8 more years of hiking in comfort with my Vasque Clarion GTX hiking boots
My husband bought a pair of Vasque Clarion GTX 2 winters ago. He only wears them in the winter on his job delivering mail. The other day while on the job the sole on one of the boots came lose and pealed back to the heel. Shouldn't the warranty cover a problem like this for more then a year? The boots are not woren or damaged in any way. The other boot is in great shape. What would have caused this problem?
Hey Marianne,First, where did you buy them? That does seem a little fishy that only one would peel up like that. It could be caused from kicking something or stubbing the end of the boot on something but it doesn't sound like a normal wear and tear issue. If you bought them from backcountry.com....you know their return policy so you're covered. If you bought them somewhere else I'd recommend contacting Vasque and have them help sort it out. They're great people to work with and seem to be very understanding with issues like this. Hope that helps.
You can see my previous review about the first pair I bought. I finally had to replace them (had them for the better part of a decade) and I am happy to say they are still the great boot I bought way back in the day. Great support, relatively light, good waterproofing, and pretty breathable as well. There are a couple small changes between my old pair and this new pair - including a second lace cleat on the upper portion of the boot, it's also taller than my previous pair, and this new pair also has a bit nicer insole with a little more arch support to it.
They were a bit stiff at first, but after a few days wearing them all day, they've broken in pretty well. I'll be taking them for a couple day hikes this weekend at and around Devil's Lake (Baraboo WI). Looking forward to see how they do.
I've had a pair of these for a long time. Used 'em and abused 'em for everything, from camping, deer hunting in Wisconsin, to just walking the dog. I've found them rather light for the size (12) and very comfortable right out of the box. Waterproofing was great for a long time, they started to leak within the past couple months, I just shot them up with the waterproofing spray and they have been fine ever since.
I am fairly new to the game, but these boots worked perfectly for me. I took 3 day hikes in them and then did King's Peak Utah (26 miles round trip) with no blisters or even hot spots. They felt stiff at first, but broke right in. Worked best for me with midweight hiker socks (early September).
I have flat feet as well as low volume feet. I own a size 9 and I've put on about 1000 miles on them. I love these boots, I know I need a replacement but can't seem to find one yet. Their sizing is similar to that of Adidas length as well as width. The ankle lock buckle really keeps your heel in place and the ankle support stays firm and supportive. MY ONLY problem is with the GORE-TEX construction that Vasque uses. The Gore-Tex liner is a true liner just like a sock. Which means that there's Gore-Tex under your feet so that if water get past the rubber sole as well as the midsole, the Gore-Tex is there to protect you.(sarcasm) Personally I don't believe there is a need to put Gore-Tex under your feet, its just another layer to keep your feet warm and cause you to sweat. Regardless, They are the best pair of Hiking Boots I've ever own.
These boots are incredible. I was skeptical at first because they seemed really stiff but they broke in fast and I never got any blisters or anything from them during that time. The wide size fits my foot better than any other boot I've ever had and the Gore-Tex works great!
The boots provide a good ride, theyre rather stiff and hard to break in, but I didnt suffer any blisters on the initial 14er. Oh, and they are slightly taller than my Sundowners, which takes some getting used to wearing.
Bought these boots over the winter. Had a chance to use them in Arches National Park for the first time. Didn't get any blisters from the new boots. Used them again a couple weeks ago in the Stansbury range west of Salt Lake, conditions were really muddy. Feet stayed warm and dry, sprayed them off when I got home. I like these boots better than the Merrells I had the last couple of years, it feels like there is more support.
Yes, the Vasque Clarion GTX features a Gore-tex waterproof-breathable membrane. Most every time you see "GTX" in a footwear title, it means Gore-tex waterproof-breathable.
I've worn Vasque in the past, probably for the last 10 years or so. These are the lightest Vasque boots I've purchased and when I took them out of the box really thought they would be too light (I thought I preferred all leather). These boots felt very different than the all leather boots of which I was familiar, but took little break in and I wore them hunting a couple weeks after receiving them (I have "heavy duty" hunting boots I normally wear). They felt great. I took them hunting again the next weekend and again they felt great. They are light, but seem to hold up really well. I wear them everyday, as my casual footwear, and have come to realize on the weekends when maybe I'd be putting them through a bit more work they stand up to it. I've only owned them a month or two, but so far I'm impressed. I gave them a 4, based on my limited experience with them. I keep expecting them to start breaking down a bit with harder use, but they don't. We'll see in a year if they're still holding together (I wear them 6 - 7 days a week). If their initial quality is any indication, I think they'll still be my everyday and hunting boots. Also, ordering from this site (my first time) went really smooth and I received exactly what I ordered in a reasonable amount of time. I will order from this place again.
I've owned Clarion's for over ten years. Just recently I purchased a new pair, and my first trip included a rainy/snowy hike over a tree-line pass. The trail had mostly been flooded with water from the downpour, so these boots were submerged in water much of the hike. My feet were dry and extremely comfortable while carrying a 25 pound pack, and I hadn't even broken them in yet. A 4-mile hike in w/o blisters, hot spots, or any pain at all, along with many years of great experiences with this boot, made it an easy 5 out of 5 for me.
Being as how I have only had the boots one month this review is based only on break in time. I used the boots in the Hetch Hetchy area mostly--took them down the Poopenaut trail which is about a 2 mile hike in and out but an elevation difference of 1229' both ways. For boots that I had only just received and minimally broke in the Clarions worked out great. No hot spots, plenty of ankle support (a basic need on my part) and yet plenty of comfort mostly coming back up. The hike back up was void of normal switchbacks and must have been developed by local fisherman wanting to get a direct route to the river below. Still a beautiful destination and worth the hike. I did hike a couple of trails in Yosemite as well with my boots giving me no problems. Why a 4 instead of a 5 ranking--I am saving a 5 for the boot that carries me back up that hike.
I ordered the clarion to replace a pair of hosed work boots. When they arrived I was pleasently surprised, the boots were more than I had expected, like 2x what I expected. I must say right off the bat, these boots are worth every penny and then some. The footbeds are stiff, as in strong, the tongue and gussets, well, someone finally figured out how to build them right. There is very little break in, they're not going to kill your feet. They are a pleasure to wear all day, as I do. Over all a really great boot, and I'm not nice to my boots, I will be purchasing another set to replace these, maybe before they wear out, to insure I have another set. Oh yeah, about backcountry, my boots arrived early. Try beating that in todays marketplace.
These are my first and only Vasques I've owned. I've had them for about 6 years and they've been fantastic from day 1. Paired with a mid-weight pair of hiking socks you'll find it's like wearing house slippers on the trail. Of course, you'll have much more support. They're great for day hikes, light backpacking, etc. I've even had them hiking through 8" of snow paired with a set of gaitors. I try limiting my use to monthly hikes to extend their life, but often find them on my feet for things like walking around the neighborhood or even to the office on dress down Friday. They're awesome. I'm on line this evening searching for a replacement pair knowing that one day I (or my wife) will decide it's time to retire these trusty old work horses.
Loved the boots while they lasted. Sole split mid sole after first year! Boot was very comfortable but sole is faulty. Had to throw them out due to water leaking in.
Great boot! I've been wearing a pair for about 3 years and I love em. One drawback though, they slip! The soles really struggle when it comes to wet surfaces. If the soles didn't slip like they do, I'd proclaim this the greatest boot ever.
These are the first real hiking boots I have ever had. They are great. I had surgery on my ankle last year and I find these give me incredible support. I wore them on an 8 hour trip to the zoo last weekend with my family and my whole body felt awesome. I would highly recommend these boots. Not too heavy, but you know you've got something there that'll support you.
I ordered these to replace a pair of Merrel boots that I completely wore out. I have never owned a pair of Vasque before, but elected to purchase based off of other user reviews.
Initial reaction is extremely good. It took a few days wearing them to soften them up enough to even consider a hike, but I wanted a stiffer boot so to me this is a plus. Following the break-in period, I took these on an 8 mile hike to help a friend retrieve his bike he dumped after it got too dark to ride and he had to get out (exhaustion and cold nights). The hike to the bike crossed a stream several times, was on varied terrain, and rose 2100 feet 4 miles in. These boots performed fabulously. My feet stayed dry, cool (outide temperature was about 70 degrees), and comfortable. I can honestly say the support and comfort are the best of any boot I've owned. That being said, I have yet to take them on a pack-trip. I purchased these specifically for a trip to the Grand Teton, butthe trip was cancelled due to foul weather, so I have yet to try these with a pack. Assuming good comfort with a pack and durability lasts as expected, my next pair of boots will be another pair of Vasque.
