The Vasque Breeze Low Hiking shoe is a solid hiker that won't leave your feet hot and sweaty. Built with the breathable uppers of their trail running shoes and the stable hiking boot mid- and outsole, the Breeze low gives you the confidence you need for summer backpacking and hiking. Starting the Appalachian Trail from the south? Be prepared for heat and humidity with the Airmesh and waterproof leather upper that breathes far better than the other tough hikers in its class. A Flexframe 1 plate separates the outsole from the EVA midsole, and is clearly visible through gaps in the Vibram rubber. This plate has incredible forward flex combined with torsional rigidity—letting your foot flow forward on the trail without being deflected by rocks and irregularities. Further, Vasque's high-quality DryTech footbed (which features full arch support) rests directly on the midsole EVA, which equals instant comfort and zero break-in period.
Bottom Line: The Vasque Breeze Low provides ventilation, comfort, and stability for a better hiking experience.
I hike 5 miles per day of trails...really! On the plus side Vasque has the consistently good quality. The foot bed is quite ridged thus your feet are protected from wear and tear on rugged, sharp or rocky surfaces. This was the reason for my selection. On the down side the shoes breathe so well that the slightest dew penetrates leaving your feet damp...especially in the morning. Note: I live in the rainy Northwest Otherwise a great, rugged shoe.
My husband has a short, but wide foot. We are hiking in Denali National Park later this year and he needs a good sturdy hiking boot but needs a wide width. Any suggestions about who makes a wide hiking boot. He wears a size 8 EEE width.
I have an 11 EEE - F foot and have been hiking in KEEN TARGHEE II Mid-Hiking boot for almost a year now. I've had no problem getting my flippers into them and even after they get soaked inside and out they kept their shape. There was little to no break-in time, so your husband should be able to get them on and go.All in all KEEN make some of the best footwear for the man with a more robust foot. The only down side is they do look a bit like Clown shoes when you get them on. I got over that quickly and have taken these boots everywhere.I think if they can do Northern Canada in Spring, and North Carolina in Summer they should be good for what you need.Hope that helps.
Consider other reviews on quality. I have a wide foot and this model has the space. With a Bridgedale Endurance Trail sock I had to go up a half size. This store is tops in all aspects.
I have only hiked about 50 miles in these shoes, but so far they are great. Comfortable, good support, no blisters, pressure points, hot spots, etc. Sole is excellent.....good grip, and very solid. You can step on stones, roots, etc. and not feel a thing, yet they do not feel stiff either. The wear to this point seems as good or better than any I have worn. I hike a lot and have gone through many shoes, but think I have found the best one for me, and would/will buy another pair.
The question here is fit. European shoes tend to have narrower heels. That seems odd at first blush since many Americans are European decent. None the less I have wide feet and I like vasque as opposed to solomon and solomon is a great shoe. Look for a rigid foot bed padded tongue and rubber welt coming up in front of the toes for water and toe protection. REI is a good place to shop. Expect to pay about $100. Quality here is no place to skimp.Check out this website. They specialize in long & wide footware:http://www.zappos.com/
Fall in the Khumbu is warm in the day and cold at night. Trekking is an alternation of 1000 foot uphills and 500 foot downhills. I used my old NB sneakers last year but wanted something more sturdy and not so toe abusing on the downhills. After a few weeks of break-in in the Wasatch they seem to be the ticket. Theyre very light but rigid with a super tough toe box to protect my little piggies. Great Vibram sole.
The sole and toe are gash-proof. The upper has a lot of double-stitching to protect against rips or burst seams. Good ventilation inside and cushioning under the forefoot. Im not a runner but love walking around in these well-made shoes.
These shoes are so comfortable, they have become my everyday shoes. I have chronic foot and ankle problems and have to wear supportive shoes. Since I have been wearing these, I've had no problems.
Bought these shoes last fall for my husband, who works as a horseshoer. Might work well for hiking, but not for work. Shoe is rather heavy in weight, and runs about a half size or more small.
High quality, solid shoes...as to be expected from Vasque. Great foot support, very comfortable, but the outer materials are very tough...you just know these will last forever.
fits to the size.Gives a nice grip and perfect height.Performs quite well on the wet rocks. My husband has always taken these for all his hikes. He has normal feet width and he got the same size as his regular shoes.even after being wet, they were comfortable and dry out fast
I did the research on these shoes and then bought them 2-weeks prior to attending scout camp in West Yellowstone. The shoes worked great. On hike day my feet stayed cool and comfy. They have an aggressive tread, but yet are light in weight. I highly recommend these shoes.
I've only owned these shoes for a few short months but I've been getting a lot of use out of them. They're comfortable and seem to be well constructed. The tread is very nice and I've noticed I can get much better traction in wet leaves and muddy banks than I could with my old tennis shoes. They clean up easily and aren't really easy to get wet. The sole of the shoe is higher than an average pair of tennis shoes so that helps protect against wet socks when crossing a soggy field or something. Don't get me wrong they're not water proof by any means...but the high sole does better than a low soled tennis shoe. They don't show dirt and mud hardly at all b/c of the color (tan/brown). They definitely do what I need to do and work well for the average couple of hour hike in the woods.
My first foot ware specific to backpacking and am really glad I made the move. These were very comfortable right out of the box with no break in required. Good cushioning and true to size - my feet run a little wide and these fit just fine. But the biggest plus is the grip of the sole. No slipping on the granite I hiked on most recently - even when near verticle. 4 stars due to a little fraying of some of the mesh before I had a couple of miles on them.
Like all new boots, first time I put them on they felt different. After about a day of wear? They felt GREAT. Good fit, well built. They are "more" boot than trail runner. Very satisfied.
I love almost everything about this shoe, and am on my 10th pair. I wear them for everyday use. My only complaint is that my big toe on my right foot constantly works its' way through the seam where the mesh and the leather meet. Is this a Vasque problem? Probably not... hence the 5 star rating. But it sure would be helpful if the leather came back another 1/2". Other than that, I have never been able to find a more comfortable and supportive shoe. I highly recommend them!
This shoe is much cooler than Salomon shoes of comparable style. The Vibram sole will take whatever you can dish out. You use these at work and on the trail and save your feet. They've been through the washing machine once and they held together and still look brand new. They're the first pair of shoes I've bought and don't have to worry about laces holding up. I'm not feeling one bit guilty about dropping the money on these babies.
