It's been raining for the last three days of your backpacking trip, but your feet are still dry and comfortable thanks to the Vasque Men's Breeze XCR Hiking Shoes. Their mid-height tops support your ankles as you hike with your 40-pound pack, and the Vibram Contact soles provide excellent traction on the wettest, slickest trails. A plastic Flexframe 1 Plate separates the Breeze XCR's midsole from outsole. The frame has an excellent forward flex, but limits twisting to keep your ankles stable. Most importantly, the Breeze XCR Hiking Shoes' Gore-Tex XCR linings keep your feet bone dry even when you're slogging through four inches of standing water on the trail.
Bottom Line: A rainy week on the trail? It's a Breeze with these excellent shoes from Vasque.
LOVE these boots. Super comfortable and lightweight. After little break-in they performed fantastically on a 12 and then a 13 mile hike. Also did a light overnight trip using these and they were very comfortable and supportive.
My feet have never felt so good after such long hikes.
I live in upstate NY and use the Adirondacks as my personal playground. I've logged well over 500 miles in these and have never had a single issue. These boots fit my feet right out of the box and have delivered over and over again. I've snowshoed, ran, hiked, chilled, and walked in these and they are good for basically anything. These boots have held up for week long trips with a 50lb pack, bagged peaks, and everything in between. Not only is the superior craftsmenship clear in their design and fabrication it is proven through the way my feet feel after a long day. I have never had a blister with these boots. Ever. For their weight, price and purpose I would debate if anyone could make a better product. I'm a believer for life.
I bought these boots for year round hiking. I figured I'd go for something with a goretex liner since I live in the wet coast of Canada, also known as Vancouver.
I've used them a few times since and have to say they are fantastic. I've even worn them snowshoeing twice and never had a single complaint or blister. In fact the breaking in of the boots took place on a short (1-2hrs) but particularly wet hike up one of the local mountain.
Last weekend I went to one of the local mountain and went for a snowshoe up the hill. It snowed 4-5 inches while we were out snowshoeing and most of the trails ha not been travelled yet this year so we were setting the trails and sinking 6-8 inches into the powder with ever step. After 2.5 hours we went back to the truck and my feet were both warm and dry, which is more than I can say for many other parts of my body.
I give them a definite must buy... As I said in the title, "If you love you feet and want them to return the affection you should treat your feet with these boots."
I bought these boots for a 15 day backpacking trip in Capital Reef National Park and the San Rafael Swell and they were perfect. Did some slot canyon hiking in water and they stayed quite dry until I submerged them completely; after that they dried out super quick in the sun. I use superfeet insoles (green) in them and they are nice and comfy. I've had them for about a year and have hiked all over the South Cascades with them. No complaints, great boots.
Question... I'm looking for a light boot for 2-5 day hikes w/ mid-weight pack (30 lbs, +/- 5 lbs). I have a pair of heavy-weight Vasque boots that I dearly love, but they are just a bit much for tromping on the AT (or similar SE location) during the summer. Currently I'm considering the following boots: Salomon Explorer GTX, Vasque Breeze GTX, Merrell Outland Mid GTX, and La Sportiva Onix GTX-XCR. I have wider-than-usual feet and a high arch. Any recommendations?
Any of those boots would work well for what you're looking to do. With your foot specs I would stay away from the La Sportiva's as they're really for narrower feet. I would pay particular attention to the Vasque and Merrell boots. Both should fit your feet well and are going to be plenty comfy.....not overkill. Hope that helps.
I ordered these initially in my normal size - 10R. These seem to be a great boot. Unfortunately, they were too narrow for my "normal" feet. I've never had to wear a wide size before. I ended up going to a local retail store to try on various sizes. It wasn't until I tried a size 11R did I feel like my toes weren't being pinched. In addition, for me, there is too much padding on the instep and top of the toe box. I ended up returning these boots and going with a different brand.
Great boots, lightweight, comfy - but - they have changed to plastic lace hooks on these boots, I broke one off second day of use walking in brush, i'm not too graceful so may not be an issue with others. Be warned, if you break one of the little plastic hooks off, the boots are done, they wont lace properly and create pressure point upper foot (tried it) Good return policy so sent them back for "Wasatch" model (metal hooks)
It already has a Goretex XCR insert in it so it will be very waterproof to begin with. But if you want you can treat the leather and make it even more waterproof by using this stuff:http://www.backcountry.com/store/NIK0032/Nikwax-Waterproofing-Paste-Wax.html
The Vasque Boot is well worth the money. The best Boot I have owned yet, after just a few days of wearing them at work ands they were ready for hiking. I wore these boots on a trail that bordered Lake Ontario. Several parts of the trail were ankle deep water and to no avail my feet remained dry. The boots felt like sneakers. I have no issues with the plastic lace hooks very dependable.
I too question why Vasque used plastic hooks? That said, this boot took no time to break-in, just a couple of hours of walking at work. I wore them after a late snow fall in the Spring Moutains and my feet stayed dry. I replaced my Wasatch's with these, I like the Wasatch better. I'll keep these just for trails, and buy another pair of Wasatch for rock and boulder hopping. I just don't trust those plastic lace hooks.
Got this boot last year and i still get hot spots like crazy and get blisters on my heel. Beware that water can easily get into the vents. I waterproofed mine with some spray on stuff and I still get a little wet through the vents but nothing too big. I like them but not the best boot i've owned. Probably will go with something different next time.
used these all summer in southern B.C. Rockies and eventually on five day hike of the west coast trail.... i had read about the plastic hooks breaking but i assure you if one "broke walking in the brush" that was an isolated error. Ive raced up and down some pretty harry scree slopes banging them around hard and nothing has broken yet. As for them not being waterproof nothing can be further from the truth. Someone said Gore-tex doesn't cut it... that's not true, if your goretex isnt waterproof its because you probably dried the boots by a fire that was to hot and dried out the goretex liner or punctured it with a sharp stick or something. that being said i did add some mink oil and nik wax to them before going on the west coast trail... even when walking IN the ocean my feet were always 100% drytake care of these boots and they will take care of youhighly HIGHLY recommended
i love these boots. lightweight, waterproof (unless it gets in from above the ankle) and durable.
2 annoying things though. first pair came undone on the heel but I returned them and got a brand new pair. also, they could have better grip on slick rocks.
well i've only had them for a few weeks, but i love em already. the sizing is good, and theres no pinching or any tight spots. No problems breaking them in!
Will be doing a thru hike of the AT shortly, and want to replace my Montrail mid height boots with a low hiking boot. Someone suggested that Vasque makes a great mid height hiking boot and also has a low height version of the same boot. Any idea which Vasque model they are referring to? Thanks.
It is very likely that the Vasque Breeze is the model you are referring to. It is highly rated in most reviews, and is available in both low and mid height. Another Vasque is the Catalyst Mid GTX which is listed as a multisport. It is a somewhat lower version than a typical mid hiking boot. The low version of this boot is no longer available. Vasque.com shows their boots in a simple layout for comparison. I think it might be the Sundowner. Vasque has been making it forever & it has a great track record. Here's more information:http://www.backcountry.com/store/VSQ0021/Vasque-Sundowner-GTX-Backpacking-Boot-Mens.html
I bought these boots with high expectations after hearing great things about Vasque. Unfortunately my pair of boots were not at all waterproof! This resulted in me having wet feet throughout my trip! I am planning to return my original pair for ones that actually work!
i found these to be good hiking boots even thought the top bit into my calf. if you don't mind getting wet, they're fine, but the gore-tex does not do the job if the water is above the leather lower part. maybe that was an indiviual problem, but i woud not recommend these boots highly.
Awesome boots. Didn't need to be broken in. Great grip on rocks even when they are wet and muddy. Hiked all day on rocky terrain and my feet didn't even hurt afterward.
