Ushba Basic Ascender

Made from Titanium, the Ushba Basic Ascender weighs only 4.4oz; less than any other ascender in its class. With a safe load rating of 900lb, it can be used for ascending a rope, hauling a bag or self-belay top roping. A unique cam configuration works on ropes from 8-12mm and maintains grip even when they're icy or muddy. When not weighted, it slides easily up and down the rope, making down jugging far easier than with standard ascenders.

I guess you could attach it to the side of a full body harness while belaying with a figure 8, but I wouldnt. You are creating a system that doesnt make any sense. I think you are just asking for trouble when trying to do this. Check out this forum on a Prusik back-up.

You might not trust the defunct russian titanium company, but these things rock. Clamp system versus the teeth of the petzl's means less impact on your rope and they seem to clamp down better any way with out having to tend the unit while climbing. PROPER TRAINING is needed to use these safely, so be careful!
