Under Armour Armour Loft Jacket - Men's - 2008

Whether you’re camping, backpacking, skiing, or snowshoeing, come armed for cold weather with the Under Armour Men’s Armour Loft Jacket. This light, puffy jacket provides you with compressible warmth thanks to synthetic Armour Loft insulation. The wind- and water-resistant polyester ripstop shell holds back the weather and cuts bulk, and the ColdGear wrist gaskets seal out cold air and moisture. Two zippered hand warmer pockets keep your digits warm when you forget your gloves, and the jacket compresses down small when you’re on the go.

Bottom Line: Arm youself against the cold with this jacket.

Great Warmth

By:
November 18, 2008

It reminds me of Primaloft insulation in that the warmth/weight quotient is HIGH. It's definitely warmer than my NF Redpoint....no surprise as this jacket has 200g of insulation vs 100g and also has 150g in the sleeves.

I wore this in Tahoe in about 13F with no cold in the least! I could easily go below 0 with this jacket with just a long sleeve merino base or two underneath. As a test, I pressed dry ice on one side to test its insulation. My hand never felt uncomfortable (just like the primaloft of my Redpoint jacket). I've also placed my body in the snow and stayed dry and warm.

The only negative is that the zipper catches sometimes on the side material and the zipper also is somewhat hard to connect at the bottom. Minor annoyances vs its upside.

Material is tough. I snagged it HARD(!!) on my shredded skis. I truly thought I punctured it, but NO(!), it held--the puncture point is barely noticeable. Great ripstop!

I also like the upper fleece neckline and fleeced shoulders. Makes it cozier when putting on. The spandexy sleeve gaskets are also great but is more effy when it goes over a thick sleeve. It would be great to have velcro sleeves also to block out the elements further.

This is a warm jacket. However, if you look at the Tech Specs, you'll see that it is not good for rolling in snow because it is NOT waterproof. This is will not do well if you're falling in snow all the time. If you want to do that, wear a shell over it.--Barrett Wood==========================================Read my review above. It's a really warm jacket without making you uncomfortable. I wore it inside in room temp no problems. I then went outside in the low teens, no problems. That's the amazing thing with these new state of the art synthetic insulations (like Primaloft and this).YES it stays dry when rolling in the snow. I've laid in rather mushy snow for 30 minutes with my elbows deep in it, no problem. The ripstop and DWR will keep you dry, but as with any jacket don't press your luck. It ain't Gore-Tex, but it'll do you good in moderate moisture--for sure, I'd go out in it in a dry snowstorm.....but no in a rain deluge, LOL. The insulation also stays warm when wet--unlike down.--D=============================================

Great for casual wear on cold days

By:
December 15, 2008

I bought this jacket purely on the looks and the brand name. It has turned out to be a great buy. The jacket is lightweight yet very warm. I love it, and so does my girlfriend, so much so she has taken to wearing it all the time until i get her the women's one. I would give it 5 stars except for the 2 points raised by the previous reviewers. Firstly, the twin zip systems is cumbersome, I have a lot of problems connecting it, to the point of frustration. I have other snowboard jackets with the same zipper system and I don't have half the trouble. Second, would be nice if this was waterproof... that is why 4 stars only.
