Not too Shabby

BC.com shipping and CS is great, had the rack here in less than 4 days. I wanted the T2 sidearm hitch rack but didn't want to deal with having a hitch put on the car. I have put 6 or 7 bikes on it and they all fit excellent and are very secure on top. I only have two issues with the setup; The sidearm rubs on my fox 40 so I need a piece of pipe insulation on the fork to keep it from getting scratched, the other is I had to dismantle and reassemble to get the arm on the outside of the rack. neither are that big of deal but I put the sidearm back together wrong and don't get full swing on the front. I also wish they could be popped off easily when not in use to reduce drag and bug stiction. I'll probably buy the T2 hitch rack just so my wife doesn't have to struggle to put her DH bike on the top of the Jetta.

Will The Thule 594 sidearm work with an Electra townie? Or is

Will The Thule 594 sidearm work with an Electra townie? Or is there another rack attachment for Thule that does work?

Great

These racks are very stiff and solid for bikes. They will work on any bike I have ever tried to put in them. The trays re wide and will take big tires, the trays are also really solid and don't flex at all. These are very easy to use but a little tricky to setup the first time around.

The only real gripe i have with these racks is that you can steal a bike off of them pretty easy. I stole my own bike off of my car in under 20 seconds. I wish they would put a cable lock on these like the Yakima system. Another thing you can do is put the bike on backwards (in most cases some bikes wont do this) and then the bike will be much harder to take off the rack. But locks only keep the honest people out, so just be careful no matter what.

Thule Sidearm 594 Roof Mount Bike Rack

By:
July 8, 2006

I purchased this rack here for multiple reasons. The first being that they are not available in Europe and it is the only rack that will accept my bike - a GT ID XC 2.0 - without removal of the front wheel. I already own two Thule ProRide 591, but the down tube on my GT is too high for the arm to reach. Getting back to the sidearm 594. It was easy to assemble and fit to my Thule roof bars. The bike feels very solidly attached when sitting on it. In use it is better than the Proride 591 as the tray is wider so the wider trays are easily accommodated and the side arm on the Sidearm 594 is easier to operate being the side that you load the bike whereas the arm is the other side of the bike on the Proride 591 and the clamp gets rather close to the chain rings on our other GT which has a conventional style frame. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this rack. Why did I choose this site to supply it? They were the only company that were set up for international orders that I found on the Web and I certainly recommend them to anyone with their good communications and efficient delivery. The only downside for me was the UK's import tax which made it a very expensive purchase, but one that I would still do again. Thank you.

Thule Sidearm

By:
April 17, 2008

I've had my Thule Sidearm for about a month now and have used it several times. It is easy to use and it doesn't take long to mount your bike. I've only tried one other bike rack, the Thule Big Mouth, and find the Sidearm easier to use. I have factory installed Yakima aero cross bars on my car, an Isuzu Vehicross, so I had to order another bottom bracket for the rack from Thule so it would fit. There is an aero bar kit you can buy, but the rubberized bottom bracket, Part P, is all I needed.

Easy goodness

Thing rack is so money. It ratchets down on your bike in literally less than 10 seconds. It's ridiculously easy to use and super secure, there’s no bike sway—even on dirt roads.

The only negative I can think of: if you have a tall car (e.g., SUV), hoisting your bike up top is going to be a royal pain, especially because you have to balance the bike while raising the arm over the front wheel. But that's really true for any roof bike mount.

Otherwise, tee it up and snag one of these puppies; you won't regret it.
