You can stash everything but the kitchen sink in the Thule Atlantis 1600 Cargo Box for safe, convenient storage while you haul ass toward your next adventure. Boasting 16 cubic feet of space, this box can hold up to six snowboards and features dual-sided access. Thule gave this box the new pre-installed QuickGrip mounting system, letting you slap it on your ride and get on the road faster than ever. Thule’s built-in locking system means the key can only be removed when the box is closed with your gear safely inside.
Bottom Line: Take everything you need with you on the road without cramping your interior space.
Is their much noise on the highway with this thule. I intend on purchasing one. I also purchased cross bars from the dealer for my 2003 Tahoe roof rack that don't come standard anymore. I had strapped a fabric luggage rack to the long bars and the noise was unbearable. We had to pull over and take it off. Will this do the trick??
I have a Subaru Baja and I haven't had any issues with excessive noise, you can definatly tell its a little noisier but its not bad. I think this is probably one of the less noisy boxes out there however you are still mounting a box to your roof and you will have some extra noise.
It is positioned so that the rear gate doesn't impact when opened.
Note: I had to remove the rubber filler pieces that blocked the forward crossbar from moving forward -- Anyone know why Lexus puts those filler pieces in there? Wind Noise? Removing them allowed the crossbars to separate up to 26" which is a better than the minum 24" for this cargo box. The front crossbar clicked into place solidly, so I know that it's suposed to move forward into that space.
Other facts for those also interested in this box:
Wind noise is low but noticable vs. the box not being there -- it has to be forward to clear the rear hatch. Haven't done an mpg test yet -- most of my driving is city, not highway -- will report back after july trips to south carolina.
Height on car: about 6' 10.5" just an inch or more under 7 feet. Which is the framed opening of my garage.
I had to adjust my opener to lift the garage door up higher and out of the way. Since my Genie opener didn't have enough screwdrive track length to move the door up and back out of the way far enough, I cut a 2" x 12" at 12" and used it as a mount point for the track to move it away from the door another 1.5" -- just enough to clear the top of the door frame. I won't ride with this beast on my RX all of the time, but when I do, I want to be able to park it inside...
