The Therm-a-Rest Trekker Lounge Chair Kit converts your camping mattress into a comfy chair. This kit fits any regular or large Therm-a-Rest. The Trekker Lounge Chair Kit never has to be removed—when you want to use it for sleeping, simply unclip the adjustable side straps and crash out.
Bottom Line: The most versatile, lightweight camp chair kit from Therm-a-Rest.
It is the same webbing straps that climbers use. The webbing will hold up no problem (take a tug at the webbing straps on your backpack's shoulder straps. It'll hold).
If anything the buckles would be the first to go, but these are pretty bomber too.
How have I gone 20 years on the trail without one of these? At first, when a friend recommended I get this I thought, seems too cushy for back county but it was PERFECT for chilling and playing cards, cooking and just enjoying the space after a long day. Didn't take up much space and was light too...added bonus!
What a great piece of gear. At 10.5 oz it's so light I can't even consider it non-essential. Just don't put too much pressure leaning back testing it or anything. I tested it and the seams on one of the nylon webs started to rip. That being said, with a tear in the support system it's still strong and I have no worries (hopefully I'm not proven wrong). I use it with a Trail LIte TR regular pad and it fits in the pad-specific stuff sack just fine either on the pad or rolled up in it. It has a little space left for a longer pad which kind of makes it a little bit of an odd fit but it's negligible. It's obvious what it looks like so here's a more interesting photo.
My friend Mike has this chair and he really likes. Its a great chair for many different events from football games tocamping and maybe even hiking it you have the room for it.
Write your question here... Is this chair for use with the 'shorty' thermarest pad that is only 48" long? Odd your description does not tell us what pad length works for this chair sack.
This has been the best thing I have bought for backpacking. There is nothing better than being able to relax and sit comfortably with my back supported after a long day of carrying a pack. I should have gotten this a long time ago.
Yes, it is said in regards to weight: Save the ounces and the pounds will take care of themselves. However, having done a 12 day backpacking in the Brooks Range (North Central AK), do not skimp on this chair! It is a great relief to sit in at the end of the day and trust me, I was the envy of many other hikers that didn't bring theirs or have one (kinda surprised no one stole it ;)
At a fraction of the weight of a crazy-creak, and collapsing down to a fraction of the size, this chair is great. It takes a minute to assemble, but is incredibly comfortable once you do. Even when I need to cut down on the ounces, if I'm going to be doing any sitting, this chair stays in my pack.
does this work with the prolite plus? (which says its tapered)? trying to decided between prolite and prolite plus.. and if plus doesn't work well with the chair kit.. that would help me decide
The regular prolite pad will work. I have used it with the prolite 4 many times. I have the regular size pad which is 20" and the taper does not affect it.
I absolutely love this item and I have the old version which is a little heavier. It is the one non essential item I carry that I really shouldn't be wasting ounces on, but at under a pound? I mean, I could stand to lose a few pounds of body weight before I start to complain about this. You could rest your back on a log or rock, but this thing is soo darn comfortable, I never hike without it, even on extended trips, totally worth it's carry weight. Rolls up to the size of collapsed trekking poles and stashes on the outside of my pack. Definitely recommended!
If it's the rectangular model and not the mummy version, and if it's not fully inflated to its full 2.5" air fluffy thickness it should, in theory, work. Make sure to get the right size chair since the Clearview Air Pad long comes in 20" and 25" widths.
I like this chair, I do. I'm all for creature comforts when camping, but at 10.5oz (298g) the thing is just too heavy for anything but car camping or a heavily burdened weekend hike. It's cool for what it is, it stores really small and you can leave it on your pad, well, the top part if you have a regular length one. The comfort is great, and I know this isn't for long distance backpacking. I just wish it was lighter so then it could be.
This chair will work with any pad 20" inches wide, no matter the length and shape.--------------That's really not true. If it's mummy shaped, the corners won't be supported, and if it's only 48" long, it won't fold over and it won't be stiff enough. I don't think your pad will work.
Works nice. Will save your back at the campsite after a long day. Light and doesn't take much space. Stuff sack is mess and doesn't close well. Still worth the money.
I was so pleased to sit with my back supported after backpacking that I actually opened my book and read after dinner. My Thermarest fits into the support nicely and the straps are strong and able to be adjusted easily. It was well worth the weight to carry my chair.
Indeed it will: I use my short thermarest 3 without a problem. You can't fold it double, you just need to fold over a few inches under your knees. Nonetheless, if topped-up by mouth, you'll get a stiff and comfortable chair.
This is a great little way to make a chair in the backcountry. Who knew such a thing would be such a luxury. I like to keep it simple when backpacking but my back really, really enjoys the backrest of a chair. Thermarest got it right by combining ligthweight and sturdiness with this little baby. No more sitting on logs with no backrest!
You have to add this to your gear list. How many times after you have set up your tent and gotten settled, then you realize sitting down would be awesome, but there is no surface or place to sit? Well it happend to me one to many times and bought this chair and it is crucial gear now, would not go camping without it. It folds up very well to a skinny pole (also incredibly light) that you can slide inside your pack or attach on the outside. Either way it unfolds and snaps into position around your sleeping pad and is suprisingly comfortable and very strong. You can lean back and you don't have to worry about it collapsing, very sturdy comfy and overall very well designed. Trust me, when the time comes and you want to sit around the fire, take a load off, or contemplate existance overlooking the majestic mountains this chair will make the experience even better.
I have used other friend's Therm-a-Rest Trekkers in the past and always found them to be easy to use... and comfy! My purchase has left me just as pleased. This is a wonderful piece of equipment if you are hanging out in your yard or backpacking in the mountains! Well worth every penny.
I've only used it once but everyone, along with my behind and back, were pleased. I was quite comfortable and found it fairly easy to get my Big Agnes in and out of the chair contraption. Having the chair just made my camp life much more enjoyable.
After a long day of trekkin around in the desert, it was great to come back to camp and set up the chair around the kitchen zone and start cooking dinner and making coffee drinks. My back was well supported and the butt was comfy sitting in this awesome chair. The straps and buckles are beefy enough to last, the material is tough enough to protect the sleeping pad. Yep, it adds a little weight but it is so worth it. I used to just sit on a log or the ground but no more, this is the way to go. The extra weight is not a big deal and it rolls up nicely to attach to the outside of my pack on the side easily. If you want a well rested back for the next day, get this gear!
Get it and relax! It's worth the money, it's worth the weight. A must have for the backpacking trip. Rolls up small and fits on the outside of your pack. Easy to use and saves your back big time around the kitchen zone. Go for it ...your back will thank you.
I've been getting into lightweight backpacking, and consider this a luxury item. The ratio of added weight to plush, lounge living is so worth every ounce.
