Therm-a-Rest Trail Comfort Sleeping Pad - 2007

The Trail Comfort Sleeping Pad is Therm-a-Rest's warmest, most comfortable backpacking mattress. The Trail Comfort Sleeping Pad is light enough for the trail yet comfortable enough for base camp. Fully inflated, the Trail Comfort puts two inches of cush between you and the cold or rocky ground for a comfy nights sleep. The trail rolls up nicely compact, making it easy to pack when space is an issue.

Bottom Line: From backpacking to car camping, you'll sleep easy on the Therm-a-Rest Trail Comfort Sleeping Pad.

Why did I wait so long?

By:
June 16, 2008

After all these years of sleeping on the old style bed rolls when backpacking or camping, I finally purchased two Trail Comfort sleeping pads. Oh, fool that I was for waiting so long to make this purchase! These aren't inexpensive, but after using them in Capitol Reef National Monument (Utah) for three nights and a month later at Havasu Falls (Arizona) for three nights, I am a believer. Yes, there are lighter versions from Therm-a-Rest, but these work well for us. I know they're designed to be self-inflating, and they are to a certain degree; however, I blow them up because I can get them to their 2-inch capacity much quicker. I didn't purchase the stuff sacks; instead, I purchased a few straps from REI and they easily strap to our Osprey packs. The horror of waking up in a cranky mood fills me with despair. Now, whenever we packpack or camp, I do not dread the end of the day. Bring on the night!

A little too big for packing

By:
February 1, 2007

I admit I didn't really know what I was buying in terms of size. The 2 inch loft is Fantastic, but the overall size of this is just too big if you plan on packing. Car or Tent.. this is fine. The length is long, but if it's cold, that extra cushion keeps your feet off the cold ground. Better rest means a better day.

Very Nice Pad

By:
May 28, 2008

I was debating between this pad and the Toughskin. Unless youre camping outdoors with no tent or bivy, this is the pad to get. The Toughskin is pretty large, this one is a pound less. Its R-Value is only .2 less. Yes, comparitivley, its a heavy pad for packing. But to have a kickin sleeping pad that is very comfortable and warm is worth the little bit of extra weight. Especially for winter camping.

ThermaRest Trail Comfort Pad (L)

By:
March 29, 2007

When it comes to sleeping, I chose comfort over minimalist weight; and I am glad I did with this ThermaRest Trail Comfort Pad. Sure, it weighs more than skimpier pads; but when you're trying to get to sleep with a twig or stone poking you in the butt, weight issues seem to take a back seat (no pun intended). This pad both cushions and insulates, especially if you inflate it until it's problematic to blow more air inside, then it's like an air mattress! When you are ready to de-camp, I find rolling it up once, then unrolling, then rolling it up a 2nd time really compresses the pad for attachment to your backpack. The stuffsack that is made for it is very helpful, since it has a daisy chain along the length of the sack, to enable attachment. If you're not a masochist; save weight in other categories, such as cookwear; and be kind to yourself with a pad like the Trail Comfort. A good night's sleep is worth the extra weight!

Women's Trail Comfort

By:
March 12, 2008

Read all the other reviews and decided to go with this one since I plan to do a lot of winter camping in the White Mountains and don't like being cold. I have found it to be worth every penny. I found it to be a good idea to take it out and let it inflate once at home so set up is quicker on the trail. I will gladly take the extra weight, maybe cut back somewhere else to be able to get a good night's sleep on the trail.

Thermarest trail comfort

Great all-around 4-season pad. My wife and I use these from the car camping trips to the backcountry. I have comfortably slept down to 8 degrees (with a 15 degree sleeping bag.) in winter atop this bad boy. Go buy one!

Sleeping magic

By:
May 5, 2006

I had heard about this sleeping pad, and it has lived up to its reputation beyond my expectation. I bought the two-inch pad and it was like sleeping on an expensive mattress with the comforts of a good sleep and the packability of a very light pad.

Hubby Loves It

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 14, 2007

I bought this pad as a birthday present for my husband who is about 5'8" (or less, ahem). He raves about how comfortable it is and laughs because he probably would have been fine with the women's length pad. If you're not too terribly concerned about space or weight, this is definitely a great purchase. Easy to inflate - just right.

Why pay more?

By: Backcountry.com Employee
September 27, 2007

You could pay more for a sleeping pad that's not as warm or thick, but a little bit lighter. However, if you're going to be doing any winter camping, I highly recommend this sleeping pad. It is much warmer than the sleeping pad I had before this (Thermarest ProLite 4) and significantly less expensive. It does of course, weight more, but I think it is worth the extra weight.
