The Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Stuff Sack features durable 30-denier silicone impregnated nylon construction for ultralight, fast packing. A clip loop makes strapping your ProLite 4 [CAS0236] onto your pack a snap, and an end handle lets you grab it and go.
Bottom Line: ProLite 4 protection in a bomber, super light package.
You bought the Prolite 4 Sleeping Pad, right? Now buy the stuff sack to go with it. Simple as that. You won't be strapping your pad as you stuff it in the sack. And you know, stuff is not the right word. It's more like, it slips into the sack. Once your pad is rolled up, it slips right into the sack and then it sort of fills up the sack, beautiful. Mine came without a blemish but I understand it's got a lifeitme warranty, so no problems. Get the best with a Them-a-Rest Prolite 4 Sleeping Pad and the best sack for it! Since there are three different sizes, make sure to select the proper size stuff sack for your ProLite 4. If you double compress, a bit more work, everything will fit just fine.
I'd agree it's a little overpriced, but it is very lightweight and durable. A small(er) price to pay to protect the $80 pad inside and keep it cleaner.
It's made to be light, but this also has a slight drawback. The first time I pulled my sleeping pad out of this stuff stack, it tore. Not very impressive.
When I bought the Prolite 4 and the stuff sack I wasn't sure what kind of quality to expect, especially from the stuff sack. Typically the stuff sacks are an after thought and I wasn't sure I wanted to part with $12.95 of my hard earned cash. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised after a thorough inspection. This is as good as a stuff sack as I have every owned! The seems are tight and finished well and there is a grommet that allows the cord to be secured very easy. I have paid double for silnylon stuff sacks that have not been as good. I have, on occasion, returned items that were under warranty back to Cascade Designs who have responded very quickly (which is what the first reviewer should do).
2 of the 3 bags that we ordered and used ripped or frayed. Good news - lifetime guarantee - Called Thermarest and there were no questions asked - sent them back and have new ones. It appears that the Seams and the fabric are not performing as well as they had hoped - but they are working on it.
A small stuff sack made with extremely thin material, which I'm hoping is more durable than it looks. Buy this if you don't want the hassle of having to shop around, otherwise I'd see if I could find something a bit more rugged for less money.
No real big technical features, but the stuff sack is the only way to go. It makes it super compactable in your pack. I haven't had any problems with tears or fraying.
The ProLite 4 Stuff Sack is not, in and of itself, a product-of-the-year piece of gear. The value of the ProLite 4 Stuff Sack is that it perfectly fits your ProLite 4 sleeping pad. Unless you plan on strapping your pad -- and I do not recommend strapping your pad -- what else are you going to use? The ProLite 4 Stuff Sack does exactly what it is designed to do in an efficient and adequately durable way. Bottom line is that you dropped the extra coin to have the nice sleeping pad. Shouldn't you do a little something to protect it?
I really dislike the material this is made of, but it does the job. It feels slimy and constantly slips out of my hands. It feels very cheap. Why cant they make a stuff sack out of sleeping bag material?
Lets see, what to write about a stuff sack? It's made of a really lightweight, almost see-through material that seems pretty durable. The cinch thingy for the drawstrings is really small. I guess to help boost profits Therm-A-Rest doesn't include stuff sacks with their pads anymore. I didn't like having to pay extra for the stuff sack even if it's as nice as this one.
The product is fine (its lightweight, water resistant, seems relatively durable for as thin as it is) but its cost high. For those who have backpacks with built in sleeping bag/compression compartment, it may be fine just to roll up the pad with the sleeping bag and place it in the compartment.
I've read reviews of people saying that this bag tears and rips but I've been amazed at the durability of the thing. At first I was kinda bummed that I paid this much for a little piece of crap nylon bag but it has proven itself. If you're going to get a thermarest, get this, you wont regret it. I wish it had a strap around it because the pad will roll up a little smaller than the actual bag but you can either let it be lose or just open the valve a little and let it fill the stuff sack.
Mine has worked fine so far, no damage at all. You just have to make sure that ALL the air is out of your pad, so it fits better. Either way, it does what it says it does, holds your pad.
This bag is relatively lightweight but probably costs under $3 to make. Recommended for those who care more about having their stuff sack match their pad than saving weight. So, what else are you going to use? To really save oz. try a couple of rubber bands instead.
