The North Face Steep Tech Work jacket helps you get the job done while protecting you from the harshest weather. Some people play in the snow, but you work in it. The North Face constructed the Steep Tech Work Jacket to hold up to heavy abuse: The abrasion-resistant, waterproof HyVent material is super durable, and critically taped seams add to this coat's moisture resistance. Further protection from the elements comes from a packable hood. When you're working hard on the ski hill, cool down with armpit vents and the three-zip front ventilation system. A radio pocket and an easy-access front tool pocket keep those essentials handy.
This jacket is super tough. It doesn't compress down very small, but if you don't plan on packing it it doesn't really matter. It has lots of useful pockets, but no pockets big enough for your hands. Those are the only cons that I could find in this jacket and they are nothing compared to the pros. The ventilation zippers under the armpits and on the chest work great for when you get too warm. I find it comfortable and functional and I have gotten a few compliments about it. Overall this jacket is great and I wish I could wear it year round.
Bought the Steep Tech jacket when it first came out and loved it! Now im getting my second, still have the 1st one although its a little smaller on me now..(years = lbs). About the jacket; it is TOUGH!! When blasting through the trees this jacket brushes off those branches that are dying to reach out and grab ya, WIND...what wind? Material is thick enough to stop a gail force and it is nice to have a hood big enough to fit over a helmet. Also, zip this thing up and bury your face in the collar for those great lift rides into the artic, ZIPPERS..alot, figure out how you want to wear em for your comfort/style, I like putting down both front/side zippers and tucking in the flap, WARMTH...layers people, layers..seriously use layers as needed for the weather, POCKETS..lots of them for your needs, but if you plan on carring alot use a backpack, and regarding pockets being kind of small for your hands....you are skiing right!! Who skis with their hands in their pockets?!! and when not skiing use gloves, VENTING..if you sweat when you ski open them you, they do a nice job, figure out how open you want them and when, you wont have the jacket soaked from sweat, powder maybe but in my opinion that's worth it!! LOOKS...You will catch people's eyes in this jacket. Like I said a serious jacket for serious skiers, people will notice, and you wouldn't be thinking about this jacket if it didn't catch your eye right? SEE YA ON THE SLOPES!! p.s. I'll be the one in the ST jacket, check the trees.
I do search & rescue in AZ but it still gets really cold at night. This shell is warm enough for wear with just a baselayer when I'm working hard but with a fleece it's toasty. The material seems very durable and wind resistant and while I haven't had it long it has survived well bushwhacking through catclaw and brush.
It's a little unusual with small hand pockets and it's stiff compared to most jackets but it's not "THE NORTH FACE STANDING AROUND JACKET". Plus it has a sunglass pocket complete with lens cleaning cloth.
It runs a little large, but think about your climate and midlayers before deciding to move down in size.
this jacket is great I couldn't be any happier with my purchase I bought it in the white color. I get compliments from everyone every time I wear it. I keeps me very warm just make sure to wear a sweater under it if its below 40 degrees outside. Make sure to get your size I'm 6' 2" Slim build and the Large size fits me perfect. I read that some people said the collar goes halfway up your face, thats only a good way to tell that you bought it too large. Over all the jacket is great.
A friend wants to sell me a '95 steep tech work jacket... looks just like new ones and has been worn only a few times. Looks brand new. He wants a 100.00 for it.... Good deal? Is it similar technology as new ones?
An almost 10 yr old jacket for $100? Save up a bit more for the newer, lighter, more breathable technology. It'll be worth it. (Unless you can get your friend down to $50) : )
good all mountain jacket and for those who don't understand the clues is in the name... "work jacket" that why its a little stiff. i use it on the slopes as a thick shell with either a couple of long t's or a TNF wind stopper fleece if its really cold. the collar comes up high which is great on a cold lift and it has enough venting under the arms and on the front for it to work well. its tough and thats why it is stiff in the end this is a jacket that will take a beating on the mountain and come back and play another day. PS you'll also stand out from the crowd
Well, I ordered this jacket because my son wanted a steep tech and I didn't want to pay $400 for the one I saw in our local mall. This jacket is really cool and the price is much more reasonable! My only complaint is that the jacket is not really going to keep you warm on a super-cold day. My son wears a sweatshirt underneath. Even still, this jacket is a great deal!
Hey Cillian,The best thing is to jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They can look up if they have any more on order and if so, when they're expected to ship.
I love my jacket. Fits great and breathes well on the slopes with all of the zippers. Nice amount of pockets. I've received many compliments every time I wear it out. I own the white version.
Nice jacket for teens. The only thing that is missing is the ability to zip in a North Face liner like s Denali on very cold days. Other than that, my son who is 14 loves it.
Does the work jacket have and internal elastic hem adjustment to give it the 60/40 look. My old steep tech had the internal adjustment just above waist level. Thanks
I am ordering this jacket for my son so I would like to know if it doesnt fit or for some reason he doesnt like it or something, can it be exchanged or just returned.. Thank you
the sizes are bigger then you may think so check the size chart--------------------------The return policy is unlimited too, so if it doesn't fit, you can return it for a full refund at any time.
The jacket is excellent. I have the ivory/grey/black version of this jacket and it is a stunner. Heads turn everywhere I go and because of the area I live the jacket is valuable and subject to robbery. The jacket DEFINITELY keeps me warm. The only confusing element is the zipping of the jacket. Its quite different from the traditional zipper down the middle of your coat. You have to zipper the coat on the left side of your body. Great quality, would buy again. I have an XXL and I need an XL. They were out of my size so its a little big thats why it could be better, for me at least.
The Steep Tech Apogee Work Jacket I purchased could not have been any better. It is a nice jacket with great colors. Its from North Face so you know its the best materials, and I couldnt be any more satisfied with this great 'spring jacket'!
This jacket looks great. The fit is very true to size. The jacket material seems to be very well made. I would have given this jacket a (5) if it was just a bit warmer on its own. I have a steep tech hoodie that works really well with this jacket to add the extra warmth. Steep Tech-----Really great style.
FOREVER...no but really, it depends on a huge number of factors such that there is no way to give you a number. If you wear it and jump into a jet engine, it will last no time at all, if you hermetically seal it it will last for millennia. North Face is renowned for making amazingly durable products that last for a long time, so probably several years of regular, heavy usage would be easily expected.
Half the price of the Agency and yet just as comfortable and stlyish. Make sure you get the right size; Definitely worth the price for a winter jacket.
I have had this jacket since it 1st came out (I want to say the mid to late 90's). I still have the jacket and it has been nothing but awesome. Performs in nearly any weather condition (have had it out in -22 cold) and is ultra resistant to wear and tear. Paid 400.00+ for it new, they are significantly more affordable these days.
I've never measured myself and i dont have anything to measure my body with but does anybody know what size I should get if I'm 6'2 skinny and like my clothes fitted perfectly not baggy i prefer the jacket to fall right at the hip
The jacket is warm comfortable, and very stylish. You kinda have to get used to the side zipper to zip it up but other than that, the jacket is worth the price.
Zipping it is kinda weird, but once you get used to it, its great. This jacket with Liner zip in capability would be prefect. I have the black and everyone who has seen it loves the looks. Lots of pockets but they are small. Overall, I really like the jacket.
Koo2499181, Is it warm if u jus wear a T shirt under it? And one more question. If i have a size SMALL t shirt and i order a size small, will it be too tight?
If you read the reviews, you would think this is a great jacket. It is very stiff, to a point where it is hard to move. The collar is very high, goes up half way up your face. The jacket is very difficult to zip up, and if you need to open it to ventilate, it feels very strange.
This jacket rocks. Feels great even in the coldest climates and feels very insulated. As for the front zipper issue - if you take a little time to set it up carefully, there's no issue. When you try and rush to zip it up, it doesn't engage the zipper teeth. Very minor issue to deal with. But I could see why someone would comment on that. This jacket is good to go! Worth the $$$
The two-tone styling looks great. Lots of pockets is nice. It's warm but needs a sweater or something underneath on a really cold day. Sizing is large enough that a sweater fits underneath very well. Great jacket and I'm glad I bought it.
I have bought this jacket in black and yes is is very nice looking but remember it is a ski jacket for skiing and not for winter. During skiing activity you move your body and produce heat, so yes it can handle any temperature when skiing but not casual wear during the winter. It is not insulated so it is not really warm. I wore it on a day at around 20 degrees with just a tee shirt under and i froze my but off. Not the jacket you are looking for if you will just wear it to school or work on a winter day. Remember it is lightweight and less insulated because it is made for skiing not casual wear. Plus the zipping is very annoying. I do agree that it is a descent fall and spring jacket though.
This is a very functional jacket. The tricot lining does its job. Nice looking style, although it has maintains its old school Scott Shmit looks since it inception. Would be nice if the front hand warmer pockets were big enough to put your hands in though. The off center full zip is a bit awkward, however once you get used to it, not really an issue unless you want to wear it unzipped, then is hangs a weird. Very functional, recomment a ST Fleece underneith for the colder temps -30 or a Scythe style to a TKA 100 fleece for warmer temps +30degree. It is a very functional jacket if you have the additional items which makes it completely functional in all weather conditions. Fits true to size as well, I am 5'11 205 and I feel a XL fits me perfectly.
Wow, this is one serious piece of equipment. Very comfortable, lots of pockets, finished beautifully. Also, doesn't really mention that you CAN unzip all the way if you have to with a very cleaver design. Lots of pockets. Two lower pockets can be used for hands if you want, but not really set up for it. If you want the ultimate anorak, this is it.
This jacket does not breath well at all. If you plan on doing any sort of activity where you would need a breathable jacket, choose something else. North face made some changes from the orginal, namely the tricot mesh lining that allowed for a more breathable, warmer shell. Now, it's a well made, well crafted piece that makes you sweat heavly. Every time I wear this the lining is soaking wet when I take it off. Please consider how active you plan on being before you purchase this jacket. I'm very, very disapointed.
This coat was not good at all. it is made out of good material. but not a good to just have on. it fit so uncomfortable and i did not like it at all. and good luck trying to wear it with the zipper undone. do not buy! Stay away!
