The North Face Women's WindWall 1 Jacket expands the boundary of traditional wind-stopping jackets to offer greatly increased breathability, mobility, and comfort. WindWall is a TNF proprietary fleece fabric that provides awesome wind protection, yet allows enough air permeability for aerobic activities. Unlike WindStopper and other wind-blocking materials, which can uncomfortably trap moisture and excess heat, WindWall keeps you dry, warm, and operating at your highest performance level. Perfect for outdoor activities as diverse as backcountry skiing, hiking, or just an evening stroll around town, the WindWall 1 may well help you forget about traditional fleece and wind-blocking jackets altogether.
Bottom Line: Take shelter from the gale in the WindWall.
I am really enjoying my windwall jacket from North Face. It is very cozy and takes the bite out of the wind. I'd love to have pants made out of the same material and just cozy up for a nap.
The fit was nothing different than what I typically order. I am 5'7" and didn't have any problems with the arm length or length of the jacket itself. I am not sure what the other reviews are talking about. It is probably 4" below my belly button and about 2" from my jean button. I wasn't expecting anything different. I don't have any problem with the neck either. I actually find the jacket extremely comfortable and usually I have problems because I have broad shoulders.
My husband and I both own this jacket and love it, so when my daughter, who is working in South Korea, asked for a windblock jacket for riding her scooter, I figured that this would be great for her as well. She is loving it and keeping warm on the other side of the world. For both my daughter and I, the fit is perfect. We are both a bit short, but the jacket is just right.
It is 100 weight, so I wouldn't call it a great outerwear winter jacket. The North Face Windwall 2 would make a better choice because it has an extra layer of fleece bonded to the interior, and is generally thought of as the winter version of this jacket. Hope this helps-
I was expecting a warmer-feeling fabric and softer jacket than this. I guess because of the coating that makes it windproof. I returned it as soon as I got it. Runs a size small. I am 5'3" and 140-145lbs and everyone told me to get the medium, and i think it was too tight. If I had anything thicker than a thin t-shirt on, it would have been cramped in there. I returned this for a large North Face Osito Jacket in Knight purple. Love it. That is very soft to the touch and warm. It's like wearing a blanket.
I have a really hard time finding warm jackets that I can bike in that don't bunch up and create drafts. This jacket is wonderful: it has a cinch cord at the bottom, no extra bulk, and the sleeves are long enough. I'm super tall and slender, and I got a large. There's room to layer if I so choose, and the large is longer through the hips than the medium. My two sisters and I all have this jacket in different colors and we each love it. Highly recommended for riding/biking to class in the bitter winter winds.
I have heard that with some other jackets the eco green shown on the website is duller than the actual color of the jacket. Does anyone know if this jacket in eco green is a bright green or a dull green?
this jacket is great. I took it on a backpacking trip the first time that I used it and not only was it lightweight, it was effective in blocking wind and keeping me warm during the cooler early morning and early evening hikes. I think that it blocks wind better than retaining warmth, but if you pack along a great warmth layer, you should be fine.
The cut is feminine and flattering. I am 5'3 and 110 and I bought an XS. It fit perfectly, would have been nicer if it was just a tad longer in the torso and arms. Just a little. But it was really no big deal.
I like this jacket, wind-stopping ability is good. The main issue I have with this jacket is the neck. Basically, the neck is too tall. It is kind of loose, but the zipper at the top is stiff enough that it holds the neck up, so that it is constantly poking me in the chin. The zipper is also a little difficult to operate at the top. I will try wearing this a few more times to see if I continue to be annoyed by this.
I bought this jacket last year and practically lived in it. It's the best fleece jacket that I've ever owned. Definitely worth the price. It does an excellent job of blocking the wind and, although it is lightweight in feel, does a great job of keeping you warm too. I highly recommend this product.
No there isn't a difference. It's just based on how they describe the jacket from year to year. Last year's version might be referenced as Black while this year's might be Black/Black.
I really love this jacket. It fit perfectly, I was a little concerned that the XS might not fit my 5'2" 115lb frame in the chest because I am more busty, but it worked out well. I live in downtown Chicago and as you can imagine, it gets really windy so I needed a jacket that would be casual and functional. This Northface totally fit the bill. It's warm but vents really well so you don't really sweat in it. I would recommend it to someone in a heart beart.
Backcountry.com was great too. Purchased it late in the day on a Wednesday and received it first thing in the morning Tuesday. About three full days of shipping (not counting weekend), so that's pretty good.
This is not a very water resistant jacket. There might be some water resistant nature but not much at all. This is mostly a jacket for wind resistance.
I'm 5'1" and about 90lbs - this jacket was really an odd fit. The sleeves were way too long - past my fingertips, yet the jacket seemed to come up shorter than most like it - I'm pretty short too. Someone that's taller might find this jacket really short. I had to return it.
i love this jacket. it's warm and really effective at keeping out the wind, AND it looks good, not boxy, not baggy in the sleeves. i'm 5'6" 120lb and small fits great.
The jacket is cut for a flattering shape but it definitely still holds plenty of wiggle room for layering underneath. The new shape means that there isn't all that extra fabric around the waist.
I wore this jacket on a trip around Lake Superior in spring and if I didn't have it I'm not sure I would have finished the trip. It's like wearing armor - you can feel the wind whipping around you, but your torso stays completely warm. Totally worth the money and it's cute too!

I picked this jacket up for my girlfriend and she loves it. the winter white looks great on her too. she is 5'3 and 120 lbs and the small fit her form perfect. it has a nice cut down her sides and keeps her warm on those cold windy days. would buy it again in a second.
This is a wonderful jacket. It is very light, yet warm. It's been perfect for the San Francisco weather which is not cold enough for a huge coat, but too cold for a lighter jacket. Plus, the cut is very flattering.
I have this jacket for my self and my women loves to wear it so I was thinking about getting her one for Christmas! She is 5' 4" and 115 and was wondering what size most women would perfer? I see some complaints about the small that some women have about her size! Thank you
I bought an xs for my wife after having one of the 1st windwalls that is still going strong after almost 6 years. The womens fit is very athletic while still allowing for appropriate layering. The windstopping material and overall fleece weight are fantastic. Some opinions of northface swag being fashion over function are well deserved but not for this fleece. This is real deal gear. a sleeper and a real value in the wind stopping fleece category.
I think this was my first BCS purchase a few years ago! And in that time, it's held up for hundreds of running miles. It's in good shape too, and it's everything I want to block wind. It's not soft and fluffy on the inside, but it's a pragmatic, excellent choice to block wind. Mine is pink so it's feminine.
I have purchased several types of North Face jacket in the past few years, both for myself and family. I purchased this windwall, since I was so pleased with my 1st windwall. The only difference was the color. They are simply great for the golf course. They block the strong winds, without being bulky. I would highly recommend this product. The sleeve length is perfect, especially since I'm 5'10 and the sleeves are plenty long enough when swinging. I also love the lifetime warranty, along with the sale prices. You can afford a few or more North Face when you buy them "on-sale". Thanks Backcountry!!
I bought this jacket for Spring golf in Wisconsin. It blocks the wind well and is thin enough to be able to swing the golf club freely. I'm 5'll" 138 lbs. and normally wear a size medium in North Face jackets. I did send this one back, however, and exchanged it for a size large. It seemed a bit snug across the bust, while wearing a light sweater under it. I'm happy to say the size large fits well with the sweater, and not too loose without it either.
I bought this jacket for my wife and she loves it, she also has a Apex Bonic and loves it to. She said if she could only have one it would be the Apex but the windwall is almost as good. Its the waterproofing of the Apex thats better, so if your looking for a windproof but not waterproof jacket the windwall is the way to go. Also fits true to size.
I am 5ft 90 lbs and bought the size XS. It fits me much better than the Apex Bionic and is also lighter. The arms are too long but I just fold them 2x at the ends. Yeah, I know ...but I love this jacket so much!
Hi Lisa, if you try the windwall 2, that jacket is the exact same as this one except with a hood...hope that helps!Try the size guide on the main page of this jacket to see if this jacket will fit..
I'm 5ft 90lbs, and this is the only size XS TNF fleece jacket that fits me! I've tried the Bionic Apex, and it's too big! However Windwall 1 fits nicely with room for a thick sweater underneath. The sleeves are too long and I have to fold them twice, but I don't mind as it's not obvious in the White color.
I wore my new jacket while riding my bicycle in cool (58 F), damp, cloudy, windy weather. I found its wind-blocking feature very good, breathe-ability OK, and warmth just right. It's a little short for my taste and the trim fit makes it a poor choice for layering over anything heavier than a T-shirt, without sizing up.
The jacket was just as expected. We have looked at it in other stores so we knew exactly what we were getting but bought it at backcountry.com because it was the best price!! The order was received in a very timely manner.
Great jacket!!! When they say windproof, they mean windproof!!! I just walked across campus in 19 degree weather, and was warm enough wearing this fleece without only a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. I don't know how a jacket that is so light can be this warm!!!
I have two daughters that have this coat and they say it keeps them warmer than thier heavier coats because it does such a great job at keeping the wind out. We live in MN so we know cold.
Any photos of the inside of the jacket? What is the material inside? I bought a northface light ski jacket a few years back and I didn't realize it had a netting type material inside - I hate it. That material sticks to any sweater I wear and makes putting the jacket on or taking off too much of a chore. Thanks!! Just curios.
is wonderful! It is great for those days you just need a light sweater. Great for keeping warm in a bit cooler situations as well! I love the look of the jacket and the feel. Very comfortable!
The fit is trim and nice, not too tight. I'm 5'1 and 105 lbs and ordered an xs. There's still room for a light sweater. The front and back are the same length. I personally think it looks better that way.
it won't if you get a tech wash and do not put it in the dryer with any heat. Anything you take out in the sun a lot will slowly fade, because of the suns rays. If you don't have tech wash or want to get tech wash, use woolite or a very mild detergent. Never use powder detergent on technical materials. The powder is abrasive and scrubs the material and clogs the pores. Also put your soap in and let the washer fill all the way up with water, then put your technical pieces in. This will insure none of the detergent gets directly on the garment and won't cause spotting on the clothing.
it really is a great and fashionable light jacket! i wear it with me everywhere and it's so lightweight and keeps me warm. sometimes i'm even sweating in it! haha. also a great layer underneath my huge north face winter coat. i got a size small and it fits perfectly for a 5'5, 120 pound girl!
I don't own this jacket, but I tried it on once at a store. It has a very tightly woven fabric but slightly stretchy. I'ts kinda fuzzy on the outside like suede, but is a very strong material. Very high quality. The only downside I noticed is the seams on the inside are really scratchy/itchy. You would have to wear a long sleeve underneath! Hope this helps.
This jacket is warm but light. I love it. True to size and name, it is a windwall. Protects me from the downtown winds. I wear it often whether it be to work or just running errands. I loved it so much I bought it in a black and in the moonlight ivory.
This is with out a doubt the most versatile, comfortable jacket I have ever owned. It appropriately keeps me warm or cool as needed depending on the weather conditions. And as far as the wind... what wind??? I am a mom on the run and this jacket keeps up with my every turn.
I love this jacket. It is very warm and comfortable. I would buy another one in a minute. Ordering the jacket way easy too and it came within three days.
