The North Face Men's Venture Side Zip Pant keeps you dry and comfortable during travel, trekking, and almost any mountain adventure. Lightweight, waterproof, and breathable, the Venture Side Zip pant stuffs easily into its own left pocket—leave it in your pack for unexpected cold fronts and inclement weather, or wear it as a comfortable travel piece. Full-length two-way side zippers provide plenty of venting when the going gets warm. The Venture features HyVent DT, a highly breathable, waterproof fabric with a raised microdot inner surface that acts to lift the shell fabric away from your skin. This provides a comfortable, soft, easy-sliding feel while maximizing moisture transport away from your skin. The result: you stay drier and warmer. It takes on wet climates with ease, and includes an elastic waist, two hand pockets, and easy cuff closure to keep out the elements from below.
Bottom Line: All-around weather protection combined with high-tech breathability at an incredible price.
These pants are great, they repel all h20,have side zippers which makes them easy to put on without taking off boots and pack down to a small size that is super convenient for backpacking. the only knock against them is that stuffing them into the pocket is moderately challenging and moderately frustrating. The pros for these pants far outway the cons- buy em.
Wearing these pants during rainy days on my 3 mile walk to work has been perfect. No problems at all! However my Mt. Fuji climb was a little bit of a different story. This was my first time climbing a mountain and I'm just going to guess that these aren't the type of pants you are supposed to wear on a mountain climb, despite what the description says "...almost any mountain adventure." It rained on the last hour to the summit and 2 hours down from the summit. VERY heavy rain and 65mph wind gusts seemed to go right through through. Within 30 minutes my legs were soaked!Overall, these pants get the job done on normal day hikes and rainy walks to work, but if you run into extreme weather you may want to go with something else. Lessons learned on my part.
I have several TNF products and until now have felt that the extra cost was justified. I was looking to go with a lighter set of raingear when I happened upon TNF's Venture, side zip pants. Living in the Pacific NW (the wet side of WA State) I've become a bit of a raingear snob. This said I offer the following: These truely are "lightweight" and lack the durability that TNF is known for. The pants tore on the first snag I encountered. I would recommend these pants as foul weather running gear but not for much heavier use than that. The fit in the thigh and groin area was tight for me. I have a medium build (6'1" and 200lbs) and found the lg size pants lacked room for movement. I think that TNF is on track with the idea of lightweight rainpants with full side zips but this item falls short. In a desert or tropical environment these pants may work but here in the PNW, I found them lacking.
I was so excited about these pants and how light they were and easy to zip on, but I only wore them twice. I was snowshoeing through the forest and rubbed against a tree and it ripped a hole in the butt. Then when I got home I noticed the seam on one ankle was coming apart from what must have been a light brush with a rock or log. Bottom line, these pants seem very fragile and not what I expected from The North Face.
I'm looking for a rain paint in a long size...preferably 34" inseam in a Medium. Do you know what brands carry these sizes? I hate how inseams only get longer with larger sizes, since when is weight correlated with height!! HELP!
yes mountiain hardware has differnt lengths for their rain pants...i had a hard time finding any long pants on this site but if you go to mountain harwares site or do a little digging you will find what you are looking for
I bought these pants for am early Fall trip into Wyoming's Wind River Range. I wanted something lightweight, waterproof, and breathable. I bought a size medium (I am 5'8", 165lbs.), which turned out to be a little too big in the waist, but it wasn't really a big problem with the Velcro adjustments on both sides of the pants. The pants held up very well for me on this trip, and when a surprise snow storm blew in while I was fishing one afternoon, I quickly got soaked in my regular pants and was getting cold, but I ran for cover under some trees and quickly put on my North Face Venture Pants over my soaked pants and kept warm and dry for the mile and a half walk back to camp. My wet pants underneath were practically dry by the time I got back to camp. I also wore them a few times at night over my long underwear and was very comfortable in temperatures in the 20's - 30's. They seemed to be tough enough around camp and wasn't really concerned about them tearing as had happened to another reviewer. The only concern I had was sitting around the campfire and not getting the bottom of the pants too close to the fire! Aloha...
Great Pants, used it in Shi Shi Beach with a lot of vegetation.. had no issues with tear or anything. Been using it ever since in offtrail activities.. works great so far..full side zips are great.. a bit more breathable would've been better...
I finally had the chance to use these last night. I live in Wisconsin and yesterday we had thunderstorms and tornadoes in January(scary and weired huh?) I donned these pants as well as all my other rain gear and set out to the lake to take pictures in the nastiest conditions we have seen this winter. These pants held out like a champ. After slipping down a completely water soaked grassy hill and trudging through one foot puddles to get the pictures I wanted, I was amazed at how my under layers and skin were completely dry. The only problem I had yesterday was I accidentally erased my photos. :-(
Best, lightest pants I've ever used. They are super packable and virtually weightless, yet keep me completely dry when I go snowboarding/mountaineering. Great value!!!
These pants were not what I was looking for. They are really well made and lightweight but had hook-and-loop closures running the length of the zippers. Too cumbersome for me.
I bought these for my annual trip to Leech Lake in Minnesota for opening Walleye season, and was very impressed. We encountered some foul weather and lots of waves crashing in the boat. I rode point in our boat and was basically taking a 20 minute shower each time we made a run. These pants along with the matching Venture jacket, and my TNF Baltoro boots kept me 100% dry the entire trip. I did wear some Under Armour base layers underneath, but it was quite cold in the evening. Great product, as I always expect from TNF.
Very well made pants..Velcro is generous which also makes the zippers waterproof. A bonus if you want the additional buttoned up security for your zipper. Im 5'10 and they were a bit long for me. Otherwise nice.
These pants I purchased for outdoor work, to keep my jeans dry when it was raining. They are fine except for the fact that I notice them to be a bit constricting in the thigh and crotch areas. Depending on the situation and movement my nuts feel smashed 50 percent of the time....other than that they definately keep the rain off!
Glad I bought these. I always keep them in my backpack when birding. They are easy to slip on over a couple layers and keep you dry. They are a little noisy but I guess that is to be expected with this material.
These pants kept me nice and dry on a multi-day alpine hike through mixed weather. I slipped them on several times during rain over wet hiking pants, and they kept me comfortable. I also used them on top of a heavy base layer and fleece pants on summit day (Kilimanjaro) with no real problems. They are light-weight, water-proof, and fairly breathable. They are pretty packable for this type of garment. I was all set to give them a 5/5 stars when I noticed pretty significant wear/abrasion on the butt of the pants. They do the job of keeping out rain, but be aware that they are NOT shell pants and will tear fairly easily against rocks, etc.
