The North Face Varius Guide Jacket - Women's - 2008
The North Face Women's Varius Guide Jacket is a stretchy, breathable waterproof wonder that's great for backcountry touring, winter backpacking, and resort skiing. And, luckily for you, the durable HyVent fabric provides protection from the elements without pillaging your bank account. Stretch nylon material in key areas of the jacket, such as the arms, lets you move in comfort. Use the Varius Guide Jacket's Underarm zips to dump heat on spring days, and pull up the removable hood for extra protection during winter storms. The North Face Varius shell's elastic wind skirt helps block the elements.
Bottom Line: Zip into The North Face Varius Guide Jacket and enjoy the benefits of a technical shell without cleaning out the bank.
Many people have written about how disappointed they are because they thought it was a 3 in 1 jacket. This jacket says it is a "shell" on the "Bottom Line" @ the end. what I like about the shell is that one can buy what ever color liner or fleece you want to zip into it or to wear with it. With the 3 in 1 jackets, you have to take what ever color they decide should go under the shell. I hope this helps someone out there!
Anyone out there know if the soy beige colored jacket matches the dune beige dynamic north face pants? Also, does anyone know if the arm lenght on these jackets run longer than the apex bionic? I am trying to figure out if I need to get a medium or a small. the arms in the small apex bionic are a little short on me as I am 5 '8 and 120 pounds.
This jacket is an amazing choice. I love the fact that it can withstand a rainy day in Seattle yet warm enough (with my fleece zipped in) for below zero temps. Also, the color combinations are flattering. I highly recommend this for anyone in need of coat for winter sports or even just everyday use.
Definitely worth the investment! I stayed dry in an "almost" blizzard! Even when it was snowing on me like crazy, I was still dry. Wore this with the Redpoint jacket.....
bought this for my girlfriend for hiking/rainwear and mountain wear. super stoked. is stylish, functional and waterproof. fabric feels durable and lightweight. medium weight mesh lining.
I have buyer's remorse, not because the jacket isn't good (it is) but because I have found so many others for less money with better features and superior design. The light color seems to attract dirt and after only one washing, it lost its water repellancy. I treated it with Revivex and restored it. I wear it as a shell for alpine and Nordic skiing and it tends to bunch when layered. Disappointing...
I've got a North Face fleece liner. I'm wanting a shell to use with it to make a good, hefty winter coat. Live in Missouri...just need it for harsh winter....not planning on skiing in near future, but might use it if I do. Any suggestions on a not so expensive shell? My sister got the varius guide...thanks!
I am very happy with this jacket. I wanted a thicker, warmer shell that went over my hips and that is exactly what I got! The hood has great coverage and I am very happy with how dry and warm the jacket keeps me. It is not as fitted as some shells, but I like this since it allows me to zip in a fleece without it being too bulky. Generally still a flattering jacket, though.
In my opinion, this jacket is sized generously to accommodate a bulky fleece zip-in, so don't order up. I ordered a medium as an outer layer for my size small Denali jacket, and it was way too big even with the fleece zipped in. Without the fleece I could have fit one of my kids in the jacket with me. I'm in the process of exchanging for a size small.
i originally ordered the north face influx parka, but really wanted more of a shell. backcountry was super helpful with the exchange and i got my new jacket in time for ski weekend! the jacket is great, with room to zip in a fleece or just wear as a shell on rainy days. major props to backcountry for one of the best online ordering experiences ever! i will definitely come back for more gear.
I am not recommending this product if you are endowed with busooms larger than a B cup.. I bought one for my sister-in-law and she loved it, however I am sure she probably wears a 32A bra. I am quite a bit larger in that department (36D) and the jacket fit nicely everywhere else but I could not zip it up.
Someday designers will remember that that is one attribute of a woman that we can't just tuck away. (Anyway I can't)
I bought this for my 16-year-old daughter, and she loves it. She was torn between this and one of the North Face rain jackets, but this one is so much more substantial. The outer fabric is a bit stiffer than the rain jacket material. The inner fabric, while very thin, is extremely soft and comfortable. Though it's a shell, it's a very warm shell. This jacket will clearly be warm enough for most winter weather going from the car to a building, but the zip-in compatibility is great. We went to a local outdoor store to check these out before buying it online. The guy said this is their most popular North Face shell - it just flies off the shelf - and he couldn't believe we were going to get it for this price.
