Get into the waterproof breathable one-piece The North Face Men's Unity Suit and go slay the mountain. The Unity Suit is your body armor against powder and foul weather when you ride. The North Face sealed all the seams on this suit, so not a drop of moisture gets in as you snorkel down the slopes. When the wind howls on the summit, pull up the adjustable hood to stay warm. As you drop in elevation and the weather improves, open the Underarm zips and thigh vents to unload hot air. Multiple pockets hold everything from a wipe for your goggles to your cell phone. This suit includes two Recco reflectors that might help ski patrol find you in the event of an avalanche.
Bottom Line: Wear The North Face Unity Suit on your quest for waist-deep powder.
I bought it, tried it on, thought about it for a couple of weeks and sent it back with the following concerns: 1. I am 5'8" and 150lbs. The fit was still a bit large for me, especially in the inseam. 2. There are no intenal suspenders. It would be nice to have these if you are taking a mid-day break at the resort lodge and want to peel off the top portion without shedding the entire suit. Not everyday is heli-skiing day! 3. The internal liner is cheap "thick" nylon which appears to inhibit the breathability of the suit. Would like to see a mesh liner. 4.The hood is not helmet compatible. It's nice to be able to pull the hood up to get some protection from the "heli-blast".
The suit is a good idea but these issues were enough to stay with a two piece outfit.
I picked one of these up on sale for deep powder days, so it's not my go to daily skiwear. It is waterproof and great for the powder though. Another thing about this suit, it is hot! Most of the time I ski with just a t-shirt and shorts on under it. If I were going out in some really cold weather, I would grab this suit. On the flip side, the venting on this suit works pretty well at shedding heat when it's opened up. And I love the billion pockets that it has.
Like many have said, the crotch on this suit does hand low. It falls midway between the knees and my crotch, so I guess I can't really be throwing any old school spread eagles in it. Also, the hood doesn't fit over a helmet, which is a major bummer for me. I'm 6' 175lb and the medium fits pretty well.
I wouldn't pay full price for it, but at 65% off this is a great deal.
I am 6'1" and 170 lb. The small fits great - ordinarily I am a medium or even large. Go one size smaller at least. Fabulous quality and can't beat the price.
I'm spoiled rotten by the steep tech snow suit I got back in 1994. This suit is no steep tech. The large totally bagged out on me. There was no way to cinch the suit on my body. The crotch was practically down to the knees. The medium kinda sorta fit my torso, but the pants were still way to big. The crotch was now only half way to the knees. Lack of zippers to ventilate. No cinching about the waist or torso. Basically a major devolution from the steep tech of 1994. North Face doesn't need to go back the drawing board. Just junk this design and bring back 1994--it still looks pretty cool.
First, let me confirm it runs big and your crotch will hang low, well not my crotch, but the suit's crotch. I'm 6'1", 220 lbs and the large was plenty big. I maybe could have worn a medium.
Why it's great; First, it looks great and even though it fits large and low, you don't look like you should be hanging out in the park. I'm 40 and my wife thought it was the best looking outfit I've ever skied in for what that's worth.
Second, it is unbelievably functional. More pockets than you can count on both hands. The perfect suit for a day in the powder. I hung an edge and tumbled a bit with no snow in my suit.
Finally, if your aware of the caveats and ok with the weird fit and not detachable jacket/ pant, it's by far the best value you'll find in a snow suit. I'll sell my used Arcteryx pants for almost what I paid for this suit. I highly recommend it.
The quality was good, and I loved the way it fit my upper body and the features it had. If they made it with different inseams, perhaps it would be useful. As it is, the crotch went halfway down to my knees. Too bad they could not have designed it for a normal shaped body.
This suit is designed for walruses. I am 6'1" 170lbs and the large wasn't even close to a fit. If you order this, go at least one size smaller than you think. At least one size.
