The North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's - 2007
The North Face Ultra 103 XCR trail running shoes for Women are part or TNF's Flight Series of high-end, fast and light products. They're made for trail running but sturdy enough to use for fastpacking with an ultralight backpack. They have a full TPU shank to protect your feet and their two-tier lacing system paired with an ergonomic footbed make for a custom fit. Gore-Tex XCR makes them waterproof and they're set up to accept TNF's Scree Gaiter if you need additional protection from the elements. The X2-O2 heel air cushion is a shock absorbing air bag for the ultimate foot and joint protection. If you sized up ½ size in the past when you bought TNF's shoes, you don't need to anymore. These hard-core trail runners are true to size.
They've given to my girlfriend, but she told me that they are a little harsh. The positive is that they are very dry and breathable thanks to the gore-tex inside. Before purchasing this model I was set on other brands.
These are great shoes! True to size, comfy and durable. I've walked a few days just after it has rained and my feet have stayed dry. I'm very satisfied.
TNF trail shoes have a good reputation in the trail-running community, even though they are relatively new. Asics makes good shoes also - if I had to recommend trail shoes to anyone, I would encourage you to look into La Sportivas, Inov 8s, and Montrails. Those 3 companies have a strong focus on trail running footwear. I am currently running in La Sportiva Fireblades. Check out the reviews for this shoe and you'll see that these shoes really get the job done:http://www.backcountry.com/store/LSP0076/La-Sportiva-Fireblade-Trail-Running-Shoes-Womens.html
These shoes are awesome. This was the first time I tried the North Face brand, I love them! I run on trails and the road and am satisfied with the performance on both. The toe box is a little wider than I'm used too but, after taking them for a monster trail run, they surpassed my expectations. I would recommend this shoe to my friends. Happy trails.
These shoes are great for whatever condition you're running in. They keep your feet pretty dry when it's wet and muddy, but they've also got good enough traction that I've taken then canyoneering. They've been great in the desert also.
I traded in the highly rated Ultra due to fit issues for these fantastic shoes. I went running with my dog off road in four inches of fresh snow + NF gaiter = dry footsies and very happy person/dog. I recommend these for people with skinny heels, theyre very lightweight!
As described, these shoes are indeed very waterproof, but they are very stiff and I prefer them for hiking. However, I question the longevity of the outsole as after only a little while the traction is deteriorating. As for sizing, these run slightly large.
They're comfortable and very very sturdy and durable; and I don't feel an ounce of water. However, they came very large when I am often a size 8, but I had to return them and get a size 7.5. Even with that, the heel seemed pretty wide and I have wide feet. Also, for some reason when I tried them on they were stiffer than I remembered (but it could have been last years version). I'd definitely buy the brand again, not sure if I'd buy the type.
This particular shoe I felt was a little wide in the toe box, but I was happy about this after experiencing a long trail run. It kept my foot from being uncomfortable. Also, these lace up, so I'm able to adjust the lacing to snug up in certain areas too. Hope this was helpful.
i got this trail running shoe for my wife and she found it to be super comfortable. she doesn't uses it for trail running only, it's more of a multi sport shoe and it has held up great! it's even good for light day hiking. if you get these just make sure to get your true size, there's really no need to size up with this particular tnf shoe. all in all a great shoe!
Since trail running in the Eastern Sierras of Calif. is one of my favorite things to do, I now have found a shoe that could easily become my favorite. I ordered one-half size larger since I wear a heavier sock to help prevent big toes constantly hitting against the front of the show. Works good.
This is my 2nd pair - not that the first ones wore out. I just liked them that much! I enjoy them for the gym and found they worked well for light hiking in Colorado. Easy break-in period, plenty of room for my custom orthotics. PS - probably could have managed with the original insert and that has never happened for me. :)
These shoes are perfect for the trails no matter what the conditions are. They are truly waterproof and provide great stability and comfort. Not to mention, theyre very cute!!
Bought them based on great reviews. Five stars for looks, but its all about the feel and not looking cute on the trail - True to size, great on traction and grip breathable, and very light weight! However I found them slightly narrow (and I have an average width foot) and almost painful on the sides of the heel. Hated to let them go...but had to.
I wanted a shoe that was water resistant, supportive, yet lightweight for playing disc golf in the mountains of Colorado. My husband, a disc golfer also has had the same shoe & had some major foot surgeries & loves this shoe. No breaking in period for the sturdy Ultra 103 XCR trail shoe. I took them out of the box & on vacation for a week of disc golf in Cali., they wear very well and heck they were on sale to boot!
The shoe was really uncomfortable at first, so I was disappointed. It's really hard and inflexible. But the more I wore them the more comfortable they got. It just took more time getting use to a trail runner. They have a lot of support and the soles are strong. The Gore-tex is amazing. It's completely waterproof, but in the heat your foot gets pretty hot. It's a really great shoe for running on trails or softer ground (not road) and in the snow, rain, or cooler climates.
These are positively wonderful. I don't understand why MORE manufacturers don't make a breathable waterproof shoe. The world is full of boots, but in a shoe you have about 4 options. These are genuinely cool and light, have incredible support - work well for walking or hiking. They are hard rubber and get very slippery when wet, but overall awesome. So nice to walk through puddles and wet grass and not get your socks even damp.
One of the most comfortable athletic shoes i have owned. These trail shoes offer even more support than any other athletic shoes i have owned. Great shoe!
These are definitely stiffer that the last model I had and have left my ankle bone a bit sore (unlike last years model). I'm thankful I still had my other shoes to run in to break these in with every few runs or so. Nice to have dry feet at the end of a wet run though. I might try another brand next time.
From the moment I put these shoes on they were great. I run 10-20 miles per week on dirt, sand and rock trails and these shoes have never let me down. They are a little wide around the mid-foot area, but other than that they are awesome.
I'm not a runner, but I wore out my first pair of Women's North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Running Shoe because the shoes were so comfortable to wear everywhere. I was very happy to find that Backcountry carried them in my size. While the shoes seemed a little stiff and tight the first time I put them on, they somehow magically molded themselves to my feet (even when each foot is just a little bit different in my case) not long after the first wearing. This North Face model provides great overall support, great arch support, great traction, keeps your feet dry, and prevents rollover at the ankle (especially on uneven ground). I wore them in Alaska in some really rainy, cool weather, and my feet stayed dry and warm - comfy. I have also had them on in really hot weather and my feet were able to sweat and stay dry as well because of the GoreTex - so in addition to being waterproof - they are breathable. I hope North Face is still making this great model/style when I wear out this new pair! BTW - I talked my husband and our two best friends into buying the same style when all four of us went on our Alaska trip, and now they are hooked on this style too.
I could tell this shoe is a good shoe when I put it on, however I bought 3 other pairs also (different brands) and all of the others fit, felt great and looked good also. I felt this shoe made my foot look a little large, so I returned this one and kept the other 3 pairs!
