If you're tired of getting cold when you go out for the evening, you need the Triple C in your closet. An insulated snap-off hood gives you head warmth or a low-bulk option for beanie-wearing nights, while an internal media pocket keeps your tunes going. Soft brushed lining in the collar makes you feel like you're in the lap of luxury.
This is the most Awesome coat I have ever owned in terms of comfort & warmth! I wish I have known about this coat years ago when I froze my nose&other things off in the freezing cold of New York City. I'm glad I made the purchase of two of these delightful coasts and would recommend it as a Great to anyone that is interested in coat that is lightweight, warmth & cozy!! Mary in NY
Write your question here...Live in the Chicago area - lots of wind, cold and snow in the winter. I am a dog walker. Looking for a RED long down coat. White is not a sensible color for me.
I got this coat at the end of last winter from this site and waited with excitement to wear it this fall. I got it in vintage white, which is a beautiful mixed color that goes great with browns, black, grey, beige and oatmeal. I go to college in upstate new york and had gotten compliments on this coat almost every single day that I wore it. so I was happy, but the stains built up very fast--with a shade of white that is inevitable... the instructions said gentle cycle wash--which I did, and it is gone now. No down, it is flat as a fleece coat. Pretty unhappy and dissatisfied.
I live in Iowa, and trust the wind is bone cutting. I wanted a long down filled coat to keep me warm in these brutal winters, and I FOUND IT. I was a bit worried when it arrived and it seemed so thin and light compared to my other down coat which by the way was purchased over 10 years ago. I am so happy with this coat. I do wish the zipper was longer, like down to my knees as there is a big gap there, but I just turn my back to the wind. Oh, I am 5'9" and the large was a perfect fit. I can even layer my clothes. I highly recommend this coat
What happened to the loft in this coat? You can talk about the number 700 for goose down but if you don't put enough in the coat the number means nothing. Thank the Lord I hung onto my well worn 7 year old chalet coat; the one with loft. Yea, a lotta loft is bulky but it does the job on below 10 degree days. I've ordered several different long down coats this winter and sent them all back because they were all like this; even the new version of the old coat I still wear. Fashion sucks..... I was looking for warmth. Too bad, I liked everything else about this coat - length, fabric, hood with its flip out fur trim and snaps.... It will be interesting if this truthful negative review on this North Face Triple C down coat will be posted for more than 5 minutes in order for anyone to read it. I'll be watching.
Beth: Thank you for your valuable input on the North Face Triple C coat. I had NO IDEA that it had a hood with a flip out fut trim. Does the hood snap off? Have you found a coat that suits your need for warmth? I would like to purchase this for my sister who lives in Sioux City Iowa and would like to know if anyone knows if this would suffice for the weather there. Avg Temp for Nov: 24 & Dec: 12 & Jan: is 8 degrees. Yiiikkkeess! What is the warmest jacket that is also water proof?
We do not have any Triple C Down Jackets in Black, size Large left in stock at the moment, but it is possible we will get a few more in the next month or so. Keep an eye out!
I just returned this coat with great regret. Thought it would be as warm as my worn out Chalet Coat that I lived in as a school bus driver and winter car-camper for the past 7 winters. What ever happened to loft??? You can talk about your 700 goose down but it means nothing without 'loft'. Loft means the amount of fill and I found this coat no where near as warm as the old coat. Loft is not there and I've tried several different manufacturers of down coats this winter and they've all gone back. I froze in everyone of them when it got down around zero except for the old war horse I will continue to wear until I can find something, probably very expenseve, to measure up to the coat I bought so long ago. Screw fashion... I'm looking for warmth. So disappointed.... loved the length, the great hood with its snaps, fur trip that pulls out in storms and the look of it. Darn it..... put more down in it and it would be my perfect coat.
It's really light, and warm. I usually wear medium size, but this coat is little bit big to me, so I exchanged it. Now I have a small size, it's perfect to me. But it's great. I don't worry about this winter in NY.
I just answered this same question 4 days ago. If it's not in the list, it's not in stock. Get on Live Chat and ask when the next shipment's coming in.
I bought this coat at a store in wash dc in nov 08. Best buy ever. The length of the coat is ideal for winter. Most winter coats end right around the knee, and there is usually a few inches around the knee that's neither covered by a coat nor boots and gets really cold fast. So with this coat, i got rid of that problem. I wore this almost every day last winter - for work, for nights out, for long walks out with the dog. My other winter coats did not see much action as a result! We had a very cold winter in 2008/09 (by dc standards) - lots of days below freezing. I wore this coat to Obama's inauguration in January - layered it with sweaters that day but I was very comfortable in like 10 degree weather for almost 8 hours outside! I am 5' 3" and usually wear a size 8 and am curvy - surprisingly, the Small fit me very comfortably and i can layer with that too. In other North Face coats, like metropolis, I usually have to go up to a Medium, so this coat is probably a little more generously cut. It's super light (esp compared to other down jackets I have had from companies like Galleria, DKNY etc.),so you don't feel bogged down at all. But it keeps you very warm. Highly recommended. I just ordered one for my mom.
It can be washed, but I would not recommend washing down frequently. Most stains can be cleaned from this jacket because the face fabric is synthetic. People tend to wash down jackets too much, when the reality is that most stains can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
I have spent years looking for the perfect coat - and I found it here. This is the only coat that works 100% during wintertime in Norway. The light, warm coat is keeping me warm in the cold, all the way down to my toes - that is what is so great about it! It also works great as a scooter coat when the cold winds make even small scooter rides uncomfortable.
I am 5' and 130 with a pretty big butt. Are the armholes very long and is it as narrow as it looks? And, does it snap? Are there any other out of date colors than the green?
This is a great jacket! The arms are fairly long but it does happen to be as narrow as it looks. This jacket is a zipper jacket. Green is the only color that will be discontinued for now. You could check with "live chat" to see if there will be more but those generally all show up at once so it's not too likely.Hope that helps.
I love this jacket. I bought a size Large and I am 5'9". The medium fit great too, but the large was longer in the arms and about 2" longer in length. The only thing I wish they had done was put a button or a snap on the part that opens on the botton. Another nice thing about this coat is that it is very light and easy to move around in.
I gave this to my (perpetually cold) wife for Christmas. She LOVES it. The off white color (sort of a soft white putty color) is not the easiest to keep clean, but she is warm and happy, and so my job is done. Besides, it's easily washed. Great deal on a great coat, it'd be tough to top this.
I want a feather weight longish down coat. I have a beautiful older Anne Klein but it's too heavy. I want to be able to stuff it in luggage. How much does this coat weigh? Is it available in taupe/green size 12 to 14 [petite] ? thanks, Sasha
It is not available in the size and color you want. You can ask backcountry.com live chat if they will be getting more. Can't help ytou with the weight, but it can't be over three or four pounds. It squishes down really small so it would be good for travel.
I don't get it! Do I have the same coat everyone else is talking about? I have wanted the Triple C for 3 years, finally got it, and it arrived yesterday. Totally disappointed! I have the 700 fill Nuptse and expected it to be comparable to that, but it isn't. How is it 700 fill when the arms are as flat as a spring jacket? I live in Wisconsin and took my dog for a 15 minute walk this morning. I had on long sleeves under the coat and could feel the cold breeze through my sleeves and back. I wanted to love this coat, but North Face bombed on this one! After some research, I noticed they changed the Triple C. It used to be much puffier with larger pockets for the down. That's the coat I thought I was ordering. The only way I would be able to stay warm in this coat, would be to wear another coat underneath it!
I want to know whether this coat is considerably/noticeably warmer than metropolis... I know it says 700 fill, and metropolis is 600 ... I know it is longer, but i want to know whether it actually does feel warmer due to 700 fill down.
i spend my winter vacations in the adirondacks, and the temp difference between los angeles and there can be painful. this coat has been a life saver for me. i'm 5'3" weigh 120, and i got a medium for layering. it does come all the way down to my ankles, and the sleeves are slightly long, but i prefer it that way. i usually wear a sweater under this coat, and the fit is very comfortable, i wouldn't want it smaller. very thin, light coat, packs very small if you need it to, but very very warm. i never get cold now.
I bought this coat bc I saw it on a lady last winter and thought out loud "That looks like the warmest coat." And her reply, "It has changed my life." So I decided to change my own life. I am one of those always cold people so now I am braving the bitter Chicago cold with my very long down coat and loving it. With the help of leg warmers though, it gets breezy down around the calves where the front doesn't close. I am a slender 5'4" and the Size Small coat does look a little bulky but I don't care. This is as fashionable as it's gonna get when you're going for warmth! I can easily wear many layers underneath as well without feeling constricted. Now everyone who sees me thinks aloud, "My what a warm coat."
I have this coat in vintage white. It was a Christmas gift from my husband. I love the warmth and the length is great, even on my 5'8" tall body. I followed the washing instructions perfectly...even chatted with a rep before washing the coat. Even everyday type stains that appear around the wrists, etc. do no come out. I've had to re-order the coat. I am returning the "stained" one. What am I doing wrong? I really do love it in this color. Thanks for any suggestions any of you may have.
You aren't doing anything wrong. Down coats are just hard to clean. Dirt and stains don't come out well in general. You are going to have to deal with some dirt if you have a white one. Buy a darker color if you don't like it.
I was so excited for this coat to arrive and yesterday it did. At first, I was a little put off because it felt so light and thin, but I thought to myself...maybe this is what the hype is about so I ignored my gut feeling. So, this morning, I put it on and was ready for the cold in this new fancy coat and boy was I disappointed! I immediately felt how cold it was walking to the train. I could feel the wind through the coat, and when I just got to work and took it off, I can see feathers coming through the seams. After reading the other reviews, I'm convinced mine must be defective because everyone else swears by it.
I absolutely love this coat! Love how lightweight it is and the fit is perfect. Perfect for Chicago weather. I'm 5'3, 109 pds and bought an extra small, fits perfect, except I wish it zipped longer at the bottom. I was wondering if sewing in some velcro would be a solution or if anyone knows of another solution.
velcro would probably be the simplest or a few snaps or something like that. I can't really think of anything else that wouldn't require serious modifications to the jacket.
a little bit disappointed in the lack of down in the shoulders and upper back. I spend a lot of time outside in the cold and hoped this would be the only coat I needed, but I find I need a down vest to keep upper body warm in wind or cold...kinda bulky...seems like an easy fix and something most would appreciate.
I am 5'5" and a little heavier than you. I have a Small and I feel pretty comfortable in it. It's a matter of how tight you like your clothes. If you want a little room, get the small. If you want a tight fit get an xs. Good luck.
I ordered this coat due to the good reviews in extremely cold weather. I am a cold-natured person naturally and I am very happy I listened to the reviews. The coat is very lightweight which is wonderful and not too bulky so easy to bring when shopping or stuff in airline luggage. As soon as you put it on you can feel the warmth. I also bought it because I wanted more warmth around my legs while in my truck. It does it's job-and well-my legs stay nice and warm. Upper body warmth is not an issue, no problems even in the repeated -10 or -20 plus windchills we've already had here. It has been such a cold winter here in northern WI and this coat arrived just in time. I don't worry at all when wearing this coat about getting stranded when going out in a snowstorm or on cold nights. I look forward to wearing it on a regular basis for the next couple of months!
Has anyone bought the Triple C in new taupe? The color looks different on different websites, and I cannot find in a store. What does the color look like?
I was so excited to get this coat!!! I had previously purchased tnf parka and sent it back because it was not warn enough and was like a dirt magnet so opted for this one. Just got it today and just came back froma long walk with my dogs in 19 degree weather after snow here in Chicago. I was wearinbg a long sleeved t-short, sweater and the coat and was not warm, especially on the arm, there is hardly any down in it!!! I also have an LLBean long down coat, have had it for 5 years and just purchased a new one and with that one I can go out with just a t-shirt and the coat in colder weather and I am nice and toasty and it's $100 less!!!! I really really wanted to love this, but I just don't, for the price it should of been a lot warmer and puffier, once again I am dissapointed by TNF down quality.
This is the best jacket purchase I have ever made! Not only and I always warm, but I get compliments everywhere I go! Wind and cold can't touch me and it is perfect for walking across MSU's huge campus in the freezing cold! I would recommend this jacket to anyone who lives where there is snow. The first thing I noticed about this jacket is that is it super light weight and thin yet amazingly warm. Even though it does not say it is water proof and wind proof it certainly is! You can't go wrong with the Triple C!
I would love to buy this jacket but can only source it in the USA and can't seem to be able to ship it to Scotland. Does anyone know where else I can buy one ?
I live in Scotland and searched everywhere for this coat, finally I realised it is not available in the UK, so when I was on holiday in the states I bought it - sorry. The Metropolis one is nice too though!
As far as sizing, I am 5'4", 125lbs and ordered a small-it does run a bit large, the top fits fine-just right over a winter sweater, the hips and below are a generous fit...
I just bought this coat in a large (i wear a size 12 and I'm 5'4"), and it's a couple inches too long....unless i'm in heels or high boots it will drag on the ground. Do you think it's possible to take it to a tailor to be hemmed, or will that ruin the coat? I otherwise love the design and slim styling of it. Please let me know!
I live in chicago and need this coat for walking my dog (part husky -loves the cold) - is this the best or is there another long option? I have the metropolitan coat but need more!
This coat is awesome! I just moved to the East Coast from California, and I'm used to being outdoors all the time. I can wear this coat and be out all day long without being cold. It's lightweight and warm enough by itself that I don't need a bunch of layers underneath. I recommended this coat to my sister, and she bought one immediately. She loves her too. Yay for North Face and BackCountry!
Received this coat yesterday during a snow/sleet storm and decided to put it to the test. Took my Aussie, Maggie out for our walk. Assumed it would be a short one due to conditions. We were out over an hour and I was toasty warm the whole time!! Fit is great. Length is great. Feels light as a feather! (get it??) Anyway if you are on the fence about this coat I would recommend that you go for it. I am very happy with it. And Maggie gives it a four paws up!!
That's how I do sleeping bags, but check with the North Face website first.I'd consider Nixwax Down Wash https://www.backcountry.com/store/NIK0034/Nikwax-Down-Wash.html.
is there a rain/wind shell available for this coat? it's a great cold-weather coat, but gets soaked in wet snow/rain and the wind rips through at the seams...
No there is no rain option for this down coat but TNF also has other great rain layers available like their Heathen Jacket to protect you from wind/storm elements. The Heathen is available at bc.com for sale too.
On the one hand, this coat is fantastic -- exactly what I wanted! I am 5'2" and was worried it would be too long, but it was not. I'm small, 109 pounds, but got the SMALL vs. the XS so I could wear layers underneath. I do think the XS would have been snugger in the shoulders than I like. The problem is that the top part fits nicely, room in the shoulders etc., but the waist begins just above my hips and flares out so I look kind of like a little girl wearing her mommy's coat. Even my zero-fashion-interested husband thought it looked odd. Also, the sleeves were long for a shortie like me. The Metropolis (shorter) version fits more normally, but man I really wanted a longer coat! So -- fabulous for a longer-waisted gal with hips. I envy all those whom it fits! Enjoy!
My daughter is 6' 1'' and a size zero. Every long down coat that we have tried the sleaves have been to short. Are your sleave lenghts longer than most?
TNF tends to accomodate taller folks into their sizing. however, you may need to go to a medium in order for the coat to fit the length needed. TNF's size shirt for Sleeve Length (from center back):xs 31½, sm 32, med 32½, lrg 33½, xl 34½

I am 5'10" and normally wear a medium- my biggest problem is sleeve length. I am reluctant to go to a large because of the super bulky down look. Recommendations? What are the measurements of the medium and large coat, including sleeve length? Thanks!
I am 5'8" and got an X-L for layering --typically wear a 12. I need to cuff the sleeve one turn for best length. Hope this helps. the coat is cut slim so I don't think you'll enjoy that puffy look.
I think the jacket overall is good. It's lightweight and looks good. Unfortunately, it's not as warm as I expected, but I does keep me warmer, then my previous coat. However, it is too long and it makes it sometimes uncomfortable.
Without a measuring tape, was wondering if The North Face women's long parkas run big or small or true to size. If I wear a size 8 shirt, should I go for the size 8 coat? ThanksBrigitte
Hi, the tech. spec. indicates this coat is not waterproof however I saw it on different website stating it's waterproof. Can you please confirm. I'm really interested in this product. Thank you
No it's not waterproof. The coat's exterior is Nylon with DWR (that's a weather-proofer), but it's by no means waterproof. It may endure some moisture, but I'd be prepared if precipitation were in the forecast because you don't want the down inside your nice $300 jacket getting damp.
I have been wanting the triple c for 3 years now and finally bought one last month. It is the best coat purchase I've ever made! I have been wearing skirts to work and only one layer last week with temps ranging from single digits to low 30's here in Chicago and this coat has kept me nice and toasty. The thing I really love about this coat is that it so so light-weight. So it keeps you warm with not all the weight of most winter coats. I'm seriously thinking about ordering one in vintage white - I bought black the first time.
Is this model made in China or Bangladesh? Last year's was made in Bangladesh, they seem a little different. I saw the last year's model on somebody and I like it better. Any chance to find it here?
This coat is really warm and light weight. This was my first time purchasing from Backcountry and it was such a great experience, the website is great and user friendly. I have told everyone I know to shop there.
I bought this coat in the charcoal heather color. I thought that it would be alot warmer since its 700 fill. Its so lightweight, it seems more like a liner for a coat. It is thin and didn't even keep me warm in 27 degree weather when I tried it on when I got it and wore it outside for a minute. It is being returned.
I live in PR where the average temperature is 80 degrees and i was tired of going to the States for winter vacation freezing to death. I looked at the girls that looked comfortable in their jackets and read North Face. I knew this was the jacket to buy. I entered the internet and surfed but was doubtful regarding the warmth provided as well as the sizing, as we just use one layer all year long, light. The comments provided reassurance and the information I needed. Warm even in Chicago's windy weather and true to size. I went ahead and bought the size 12 and guess what! I tolerated the 12 degrees and windy Chicago weather with just a sweater and muffler underneath and it didn't flatten me in the chest area 39 1/2". I am not disappointed at all and am planning to get a short one for 30 to 50 degrees. Thank you for such a nice store.
I read reviews over and over about this coat and the majority were positive so I went ahead and purchased it. I am very pleased with the purchase! Very Warm coat...(not necessarily made for extreme sub zero coat) but I live in Chicagoland area and this coat does the job without having to wear lots of layers! Not to mention I have received many complements when wearing it. Everyone likes how it looks and that it is not bulky (aka the George Costanza Gortex look). Very attractive stylish coat and keeps you warm. BackCountry was excellent to deal with as well.
I work at a university where you park your car no where near close to where you work. This coat is amazing - so warm, and much lighter than it looks. Even though it cost as much as one of my car payments, it was worth it.
When measuring for length of a coat, where is the starting point? Since this coat has a waist, how do we know where the waist is in relationship to the length on a short person? I am 5 foot tall. Thanks.
This is absolutely the warmest coat! Almost too warm when you have to go inside. The weather has been below zero or single digits lately, and I have not been even slightly chilled when others around are complaining about the cold. For others that have asked, I think the sleeves are on the long side. I folded my up a little even. I did order the Vintage white, I couldn't decide on a color, but kind of wish I had chosen another, since this one is getting dirty. I have been extra careful getting into and out of the car and will probably get tired of that soon, but more than anything I have noticed makeup rubbing off on the collar. I have started to wear scarves to try to stop this a little, but ultimately wish I had picked a different color. Overall wonderful coat, I will buy one again when this one is done.
Medium is 8-10. I am between a size 6 and 8, and ended up getting a medium. Its a little loose on me, but thats perfect because theres a lot of room to layer underneath and more confortable to walk and move in.
This is exactly what I have been looking for: truly warm, all the way to the ankle, and much more flattering lines than one wouldexpect from a down coat. Well done, North Face!
NY has been getting some pretty cold weather over the last few weeks, but the other day I wore a short sleeved shirt under this coat and braved my commute. The only areas of my body that were cold were the areas not covered by this coat. Don't be fooled, it looks and feels REALLY light and un-puffy, but trust me, this coat keeps you super toasty! And the best part is that it isn't so thick that when you go from 20* weather into the warmth of a bus or office that you immediately break out in a sweat. I'll never buy another winter coat!
The fill of down is measured by the number of cubic inches one ounce occupies. The higher the number the better, because that means it is more lightweight and compressible. 700 is at the upper end of the range, which goes from about 550 to about 850.
This coat is super thin but so warm. Previously I owned a down coat of the same length purchased from a thrift store; however, it was too big and twice as bulky as the North Face Triple C. For cold Chicago winters, a woman needs something that will block the wind which can cut right through me. What a great deal, great style and great color. (I got mine in taupe green!)
I got my jacket yesterday and was excited. However when I put it on, it was TOO BIG. :( Going to return it and hopefully an xsmall in black will come in stock. The jacket feels very warm. Definitely a must have.
Thought this coat would be adequate for above zero F, but I was wrong. The down may be 700, but the density is so low that I was chilly and the temp was in the 30's! THe length and zipper function are great. The fit is true to size, but for the price, it just isn't warm.
I have 2 other NorthFaces, both 650 goose and they are warm and a little thicker. I was stunned to received this coat and see how thin feeling/not bulky it is, yet be incredibly warm! It's by far my warmest coat, fits true to size and washes just great. I washed it in cold water in the machine this weekend and laid it flat to dry, it fluffed right back up. It really is a then feeling coat but super warm...I walk to the train in NYC daily, so I need it! My only dislike would be that the hood strings are a little tough to tighten... need to take your gloves off, etc to access the clip thing on the strings to make the hood tighter around your face. All in all, this coat is an A+. I have it in the green which is nice because it's a little different...more like an army green color.
This coat is excellent. It has a hood, it is down, and it is long.
Had a great DKNY jacket from Macy's that I loved more for $79.99. The zipper kept breaking, hated to part with it but had to return. I did not rate it with 5 stars because the price of this jacket is very high and when I did a chat the agent told me it was not going on sale. A couple of weeks later I saw it reduced. Now I purchased it in black, and saw the reduced one in white, so I was not sure if the black was on sale as well. I bought it in April and it was still pretty cold in New York. So I hope it will keep me warm next winter when the temps are like 0 degrees out there.
My husband bought me this coat so I could walk comfortably outside between classrooms during the winter. I love how I can put the hood up and snuggle down in and stay warm even on the -20 windchill days. I also love the length, how it covers my legs and keeps them warm. It also has an attractive silhouette and doesn't feel too bulky.
The coat is excellent for freezing winter days, and is unbelievably light so you wont feel like you're carrying a heavy load when you put it on. I only got it because i have night classes all winter long and have to walk from my apartment to campus. I have to admit it feels a little embarassing to wear for a fashionista like me!
