Hi Juls. The back of the jacket is not waterproof. It's meant to act more like a vent for heat and perspiration. If you're looking for a completely waterproof jacket try the North Face Venture jacket.

This is an amazing all around shell. A very light jacket that works extremely well in the wind, snow and rain. It is completely reliable in the elements and does a really good job blocking them. I use this as a layering piece as well as an external jacket. There is one main external pocket at chest level- but no hand pockets. It is a good length, good fit for your appropriate sizing. Excellent piece for any and all outdoor activities from skiing & ski touring, to running to walks on the beach. It also packs really small and really light. Great hood that works well.

I am 5'8, size 6, and wear a Medium in this jacket.
