The North Face Three Degrees Jacket - Men's

Whether you’re waist deep in the gnar or hunkering down on the lift, The North Face Men’s Three Degrees Jacket has what you need to keep yourself protected and your temperature regulated. Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric seals out moisture in any form, and 100 grams of compressible PrimaLoft insulation beats back the chill on icy days. The removable storm hood and powder skirt keep out intrusive spindrift, and when things get a little too warm, zippered chest vents dump excess heat. The North Face also added a RECCO avalanche reflector for some in-bounds peace of mind and an offset front zip to ward off chafing.

Bottom Line: Keep your core temperature regulated in any conditions with the Three Degrees Jacket.

Do you need anything besides just a thin base layer with this

Do you need anything besides just a thin base layer with this jacket (assume snowboarding resort at about 10-15 degrees)?

just deciding on a true thin shell that I will need to layer or something like this

This is not a shell jacket, you do not need any puffy down jackets under it. Its a bomb proof insulated jacket. I own this for the cold days and own an arcteryx for the layring days.

I disagree, I just bought this bomb proof jacket and think it should be fine with just a light base layer. Its a very warm jacket, just try to put a puffy down mid layer under it, you will roast and feel like the stay puff marsh mellow man too. This jacket has insulation, its not a shell. I have an arcteryx too, that one I use for layering.

Awsume NF jacket thouh...

In those types of conditions you are probably still going to want to wear some type of midlayer with this jacket. If you are looking for something that you don't need to layer with, I would recommend The North Face Verdi Down II jacket- this has enough insulation so that you won't need to wear anything more than a lightweight baselayer.
Hope this helps-
