For your summit-in-a-day hikes, pack extra layers, water, and food into The North Face Terra 30 Backpack and hit the trail. Stuff a compact sleeping bag in the bottom in case an overnight becomes necessary. Air flows between the pack and your back thanks to an open-air mesh panel across the back of the Terra 30 Pack. As the day heats up, peel off a layer and stash it in the front stretch pocket. Grab your water bottles out of the Terra 30's side pockets to stay hydrated, and stash your trekking poles in the pole-loops when the trail flattens out.
Bottom Line: The North Face Terra 30 Backpack holds your day hiking gear and a sleeping bag just in case.
Used the pack for my flight to California, easily fit into overhead compartment. Then used it while hiking for two days in Yosemite. Enough room for all liquids, food, and extra clothing. Lid pocket good for keys, sunglasses, and money storage. Used side pockets for GPS and Cellphone. Small centered pocket good place to store trail maps. Mesh side pockets are nice, carried two extra large containers. I like the narrower fit and feel of this pack!
Love this pack. Took it down to the Hocking Hills this past weekend and it worked great. Two changes of clothes, sweatshirt, and a fleece. TONS of utility straps and loops, many of which are reinforced. The stretchy pocket on the front held a pair of slide-on shoes and the port hole on the bottom of the pocket prevented the stink from building up too much. It's not listed in the specs but both sides have stretchy pockets as well. Perfect for GPS, knife, map, compass, or flask :) I could take this pack out for two and probably three days with plenty of room for supplies. Nice and light and the waist and sternum straps ride comfortably. Dig this pack. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Have tried on the Terra 40, and it fit well. Would like to drop down to this daypack size Terra 30, but want to know if it will be too small. I'm 5'6" (back measurement about 18"). Thanks.
A great pack for day hikes and one-nighters. Very comfortable on the shoulders and around the hips, and it stays nice and cool on the back. A couple downsides are that it's just a tad small on me (5 foot 11, 175) and the waist belt tends to ride up, and the mesh pockets dont quite fit a nalgene. All in all though, it's a good pack.
I am interested in ordering the TNF Terra 30 pack, but the sizing says "one size" available only. I am 6'0" and 200 lbs, and would need a large according to the fit chart. Will the "one size" pack fit me or do I need to keep looking for a pack in the large size?
I would get a bigger pack because i am 5.1 to 5.2 and this pack fits me perfect and i have a smaller torso so unless if you are do long hikes i would recomend a bigger bag. P.S the terra 60 has med. to large on torso ranges the terra 30 could fit but it would be a little snug my cousin tried it on and he is close to 5.9 and it was a little small but if you like the version of the bag i would get the terra 40 or thr 60
This is a great pack, but I found the shoulder straps and hip-belt to be a bit firm at first. I would suggest loading it and going for a few local hikes to "break it in" before relying on it for an overnighter. Don't get me wrong though, I love this pack.
is there a good amount of room for a sleeping bag in this pack??and also how would you attach or pack a sleeping pad???I'm looking for a good pack to start off with, is this a decent pack for me? if im 6'2" and would be using it for a two night trip at most....also any other suggestions?
this is a great pack, and there are plenty of ways to strap a pad on the outside, but it's not big enough for two nights. I'd recommend something in the 45L range (2700 cubic in.).
I just got the pack from SAC and I have only looked at it in the living room but it seems like it will be perfect for single day mountaineering trips. I was able to fit my crampons, helmet, a few jackets, and a 60 m rope in this pack and I still had room to spare. The frame seems like it should be capable of handling heavy loads. At first appearances this pack is exactly what I'm looking for and I'm exited to test it further in the field.
This doesn't come with a raincover, but a small Sea To Summit pack cover would do the trick if that is what you are looking for:http://www.backcountry.com/store/STS0050/Sea-To-Summit-Ultra-light-Siliconized-Pack-Cover.html
I use this bag when skiing to carry my first aid kit, extra clothes, water, and lunch(I hate leaving the slopes.) It is able to carry all these things with ease. Once, with the upper lifts on wind hold, I managed to attach my skis to the bag in an A-frame. I really love it.
I used this backpack on many day hikes in the whites and Maine also I have used it for trips this is everything i ever wanted and it is also a top loading pack the only down side to it is that the side mesh pockets are a little bit too small for a Nalgene water bottle until they stretch
Hiked with terra30 up Washington. Tthe only thing that is a down side is the mesh storage pockets. They are a little small for nalgene bottles. Also if you are hiking with other people the top pocket facing you can be a drag but those don't weigh down on the performance
