The North Face made the Women's Sidney Shoe with a bamboo lining, plant cellulose fiber foam, and a recycled rubber outsole, so you can slip into the enviro-friendly Sidneys with a clear conscience. Straps on the Sidney Shoes keep your feet from flopping in and out as you walk, and a closed-toe design protects your piggies. The plant-fiber foam sockliner and heel cushioning add eco-friendly comfort.
Bottom Line: You'll be surprised how comfy plant cellulose fiber can be.
These shoes definitely have some pluses. I receive compliments on how they look nearly every time I walk out the door and can wear them with a variety of things (dress up or down). The footbeds are very comfortable, nice amount of support and squishiness when walking. The only downer on these is that my toes are comfortably at the end of the shoe, but the heel slips when I take a step, likely because of the stretchy give on the top strap. With that said, I have not got any hot spots or blisters, which means there is adequate padding on the heel. Overall, I have enjoyed these shoes with my foot type: wider base at toes with a normal arch and normal heel.
These are cute and comfortable until the elastic on the strap breaks, and it will. Bought a pair for my mom first and then a couple of days later, one for myself. Before I could cancel the second order, one of mom's shoes fell apart. I wore mine for a day, thought maybe the breakage was a one-off because they seemed fine, but then mine broke, too. Took them to a shoe repair place and so far they are holding. Buy these only if you love their look enough to spend another $16 getting them repaired. Can hardly believe North Face would make something so lame. Backcountry has lightning fast shipping and a great return policy, though!!
these sizes are in U.S. If you click on the view sizing chart at the top it will show you the size conversion. If you are a 39.5 EU then it converts to a 8.5 U.S.
Really like the shoes. Got them for a European backpacking trip this summer. I've only work them a few times, so I have yet to really break them in. I put a pair of Superfeet in them and it really helps with the support. The only downside so far is that there is a piece of leather that isn't totally flush on the inside of the shoe, up against the arch on my left foot. It rubs and has created a blister the last couple times I've worn them. It's not happening on the right shoe, so I think it's just my foot, or a slight issue with the make of the left shoe. I'll probably see if I can file the leather down so it's softer and doesn't rub as much. I still like them a lot so I'm hoping that the problem dissipates.
