The North Face Salathe Fleece Jacket - Men's - 2007
The North Face Salathe Fleece Jacket provides insulation for summer backpacking and hiking without bulk thanks to TKA 100 fleece. This lightweight jacket loves the trail—it dries quickly, compresses well, and keeps your stink-factor low thanks to an anti-microbial finish. The North Face Salathe Fleece Jacket's flat-lock seams and zip-in compatibility give you lightweight warmth and optimal layering options with The North Face line of compatible jackets. *Not available for shipment outside the US.
Bottom Line: The North Face Salathe Fleece Jacket gives you lightweight warmth for hitting the trail in cool weather.
Pros: Super soft and comfortable alone. Works wonderful as a layer with the North Face Alliance shell of the same size. It zips in perfectly where and the zipper is hidden from chafing at the collar. The 100 weight micro fleece is perfect for milder climates, and offers great insulation with the shell.
Cons: The pocket liner is arranged so that it appears that it can also function as a internal pocket, but there is a small gap in the corner that objects can fall out of (ie. PDA, cell phones, keys). I will probably sew so I can use it as an internal pocket. This wouldn't be a big deal if the external pockets were accessible when zipped into a shell.
Overall: Good product, great layer, minor pocket issue that not everyone will dislike. I would still buy another.
A very light weight jacket that still holds its form. I can be layered in the winter with a shell or even on top of a sweater. Where it really works best is as a sharp looking jacket for work or a night out in the spring/fall where you need something. Perfect buy.
I love this coat. It is a bit larger than we wanted, but a great athletic cut. We got the medium for my 5'10" skinny husband, but he probably needs a small. We returned the medium. If the small will fit right remains to be seen. He looked hot in the medium but he wants it smaller. Also, the brown color reminded him of the bomber jackets we wore in middle school so he wants a different color too! I thought the brown looked earthy and soft though. Overall, my review is: jacket runs a bit large and is soft, warm, and sexy.
North Face products run large -- I'm 5'10", 160 and a small fits me athletically. It's a thinner fleece, but that makes it better for wearing during high activity -- you can keep it on longer without de-layering. And what matters most these days, this jacket looks cool. The collar pops well and the black/gray coloration looks good with most outer/inner layers.
Love the jacket. Fits easily under my Marmot Oracle rain jacket. Extremely thin micro fleece. Soft and comfortable. Can pack down to a size smaller than a 16 softball. I highly recommend this for someone looking for a light, thin layer than can keep you warm down to about 45 degrees.
I recently ordered the Pumori Jacket in a size Large and the length of the jacket was a bit too short in front, but fine in back b/c of the way it was cut. I'm 6' 6'' and wondering if this jacket is cut the same way and will be long enough for me.
I'm surprised more companies don't make a Polartec 100 weight jacket - it's a great layering piece, and I find I wear it on it's own a lot as well. I have a Denali fleece and a couple of 200 weight fleeces but I love the low bulk warmth of the Salathe. It travels with me everywhere, trips, trails, cycling, and even gets a bit of wear around the house.
Anything that is "zip-in" compatible should work. I have a North Face Vortex Triclimate jacket and the Salathe zips into it. I also had an earlier version of the NF Moutain Guide jacket and it zipped into that as well.
I went camping recently and the temperature was in the mid 40's at night. I wore a t-shirt under my Salathe, and was comfortable all night. Great for cool nights when you do not want to wear anything bulky. Nice soft fleece feel. Everything you look for in a fleece jacket without the bulkiness.
I've been through a couple of these and over the years and I continue to buy them, which means I like them a lot. They fit on the smaller side so they layer easily.
Nice jacket. Put together real well. I wear my fleeces pretty hard and this one seems like it should hold up. We'll see, since I've only had it for a month or so. One heads up to those buying is to pay attention to the note saying that most North Face jackets are built large. I ordered an extra large which usually fits in every other brand, however, I think the large would've fit much better.
This jacket really is awesome. I love it. I can tell it will keep me warm this winter. This site did a great job helping me size it and getting it here when they said they would. A+ on quality and service.
I'm 6'2 but skinny. I want a atheletic fit. Is a L or XL the right size. I ordered a previous apex bionic jacket through you guys but couldn't fine the size in the order history
I wanted a versatile fleece I could wear all year round. And that is what I got! I can wear it now in the fall and then layer in the winter. The red color I ordered is bold and always gets compliments. But I would not get this fleece if you are looking for one to wear by itself in the winter... but I guess that is obvious
I'm 53 years old and this is my first fleece. Very comfortable and warm. Fits well both in shoulders and sleeves. I see many more fleeces in my future.
I pretty pumped about getting this fleece, but unfortunately ordered the wrong size. Backcountry went above and beyond my expectations with a quick and easy exchange for a better size! Overall, I had a great experience with the product and the provider. Thank you.
The North Face products are the Real Deal for sure. Perfect jacket for mild-cool conditions. This site got my gear over to me without a hitch. Will use them again for my next purchase!
