It's been pouring rain for nine-straight hours, but you're still nice and dry thanks to The North Face Men's Resolve Jacket. You haven't felt a speck of moisture through the fully seam-taped, waterproof breathable HyVent fabric, and the mesh lining increases breathability to keep you from getting sweaty during a steep section of hiking. When the sky finally clears, just tuck The North Face Resolve Jacket's hood into its own collar and enjoy the sun.
Bottom Line: Don't let rain end your hike. Gear up with The North Face Resolve Jacket.
This jacket doesn't breathe as well as some others, and could be lighter, but for this price, it's fine. I have been happy with this jacket, I am 6'0"/165 lbs, and I got a Large in the event that I'm layering, but I should have gotten Medium.
My son just went to college at University of Arkansas and we totally underestimated the rain! It was too hot for a ski jacket so I searched the web for a good looking, truly water proof jacket and found it at Backcountry - the North Face Resolve Jacket. I had it sent directly to him, it got there very quickly, and he really liked it, which makes me feel great as a mom. Thanks for solving our problem!
I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but it seems to be fulfilling its purpose quite well. I think someone previously mentioned the absence of vents in the underarm, so I had my concerns about ventilation prior to buying. However, it hasn't been much of an issue, especially considering the cold weather now. May be a different story in the spring. Also, the collar is a little big, but the interior of the collar is made of soft, felt-like fabric, so it's not as noticeable in terms of touch as it probably would be if it wasn't lined. All in all, I thought it was a fantastic buy for the price, quality, and brand.
I dig this jacket. I'm 6'0 180 and the Large leaves room for layers, though the neck can get tight zipped up with a heavier fleece under it. I've hiked many miles in 50's temps with just a t-shirt and never found myself wanting for weatherproofness or breathability. It is noteworthy that if you intend to use the hood you WILL HAVE TO use a billed hat of some type. The hood has no other adjustments other than the face drawstring and it is BIG. Would most likely fit a helmet but will totally obscure frontal vision without a hat. Not a bad jacket for the price. HyVent is decent stuff.
Great jacket for a great price. Backcountry ships way faster than they say they do. As for the jacket it self, like the other reviews say, its not as light as more expensive jackets are, but it isnt really noticeable unless you are trying to shave ounces off your total gear weight. The hood is big, you could wear a helmet under it. Also the wrist cuffs are not adjustable. IF these 3 things are going to bother you at all, get another jacket. But, IMHO the jacket is awesome and i wear it as much as i can.
Bought this jacket last winter and have been pleased ever since. It is totally waterproof, which was one of my biggest concerns. I am 5'9'' about 150lbs. and I got a medium. It fits pretty well depending on what you like. It goes about 3in. below my waist and the arm length is perfect for me.
Compared to the Columbia Waypoint II shell (http://www.backcountry.com/store/COL1771/Columbia-Waypoint-II-Shell-Mens.html), which of the two would people recommend for hiking, camping, and overall use?
The Waypoint would be better for year round use, especially if you have to deal with a winter season. Where as this one will be more of a 3 season jacket better for spring, summer and fall.
i'm a letter carrier for the usps and was wondering if this jacket could withstand steady rain for like 8hrs without penitrating ,cause i'v tried l.l. beans supposed gortex brand rain coat and it kept me dry for like a week and now it get wet every time , i just need a jacket that can take a rain fall for 8hrs more than once for pretty cheap
This will pretty much put you in the same boat as that LL. Bean Jacket. Hate to say it but you get what you pay for and for what you need you are going to have to spend a good deal more money to get something that waterproof.
I am 178lb, 5'10" and have always had trouble fitting into TNF jackets and sweaters. I bought this Resolve jacket in a large, and it fits very well. It almost has an athletic fit to it imo. The sleeves are elastic, so they naturally want to hang right above your hands. I found that the sleeve is surprisingly a good length, me usually expecting TNF to be tailored to long, skinny people. The neck area is full of fleece and it feels nice against my face and neck. I prefer a hood that can stow in the collar, which this jacket does. It has not rained yet, but I'm guessing that the waterproofness will hold up well. For the price, a great deal!
I love this jacket. I would have to say that it is one of the best buys of my life. I bought it for hiking and out on the trail it rocks I got stuck in a big rain storm and stayed completely dry the whole time. I would recommend this jacket to any one that is looking to a new rain jacket.
Mine has a drawcord on the waist, one at each side. This is a minimalist jacket, The fabric is the main feature. You'd probably want something with more pockets and warmer for your purposes. .
not so much, missing a snow skirt and the fabric is not durable enough, not enough pockets and the two pockets it has are not handwarming, theres also no venting, elastic cuffs not velcro, also doesnt seem to have a drawcord on waist...so basically it is missing ALL the features that seperate snow jackets from rain jackets...and interestingly enough, thats excatly what it is; a rain jacket...it wont work great but is waterproof, if you absolutley HAVE to use it for boarding...but do some digging and you can find tons of snowboard jackets (on this site) for under 100 bucks
This jacket is awesome, and the price is amazing for the quality of the jacket. I hike a lot and this jacket is perfect in all conditions. I also wear this as my main jacket when I go outside.
both are waterproof shells with no insulation, and have the same waterproofing rating...so they are essentially the same, but the venture is a little higher performing for activites like backpacking and hiking...but both are the same waterproofing and tempature-wise
The jacket works like most others of decent quality (Helly-Hansen, etc). It you use it to jog or walk in, it becomes pretty hot and clammy. The hood is huge and almost out of control. You need to adjust it quite a bit and hopefully are wearing a cap of some kind. If you need to adjust it while putting it on in the rain, you will get pretty wet.
the resolve has a stowable hood and weights a bit more than both the Venture jacket and Venture Parka, with the Venture jacket being the lightest. according to the stats, they both have the same breathability and waterproofing. i believe the venture parka is a bit longer/bigger than the venture jacket. i would recommend getting the Venture jacket. its a solid, lightweight, all-around rain shell for a cheap price, especially right now since the discounted colors are priced at $59.37.
i originally bought it for hiking, but have used it for running as well and it has been great. fits perfectly, but is loose enough to wear layers underneath it. highly recommend it!
Pretty sick jacket for the price. I was looking for a nice solid rain jacket and this was the ticket. Great look and feel and you can't beat the North Face brand for high quality. Love the jacket.
I would suggest looking at the North Face Venture jacket. its lighter weight, has a fixed hood, and will pack easier than this jacket. and right now the discontinued colors are on sale for $59.37, so that is a really good deal for an effective rain shell.
The main difference is the resolve has a hanging mesh lining inside, while the Venture is 2.5 layer construction so it does not. The Venture is lighter and more packable, while the Resolve is a little heavier and one could say a little more heavy duty.
Got this as a gift for someone. I haven't heard any complaints, and definitely a good price. Order up 2 sizes if you plan on wearing something under it.
This jacket is completely waterproof/breathable with a mesh lining that feels really nice against my skin. It lacks pit zips. I did a little research, and found a VERY similar jacket that's equipped with pit zips for you. "The North Face Venture Jacket" has pit zips and an upgraded nylon liner instead of mesh. Hope that helps! http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF2826/The-North-Face-Venture-Jacket-Mens.html
i am 5'9'' and 140 pounds. what size would i be looking for in this jacket? i would normally go for a small but they don't have it. would a medium be too large? i want a fitting type fit, not too baggy.
I just got mine not too long ago, and the day it came we had wet snow falling. So I tested her out and it worked just as advertised, its a little baggy so you can wear layers underneath. The fabric dosent seem too durable so probley not the best thing to go busting through briars with. All and all a good jacket that will keep ya dry.
Just got the jacket and pants great jacket.all season good for winter with a layer under. Keeps you at the right temp.i was just outside its 21 degrees wind chill is 8 and its almost 10 inches of snow here in nyc thought i would freeze but great wind stopping ability i'm impressed at how it keeps you cool enough not to sweat and warm enough not to be cold.wow you'll see what i mean if you get 1
