Cut through high winds and heavy snow with the waterproof, insulated Razor Jacket from The North Face. This snowsport-specific puffy shell uses The North Face's proprietary Heatseeker insulation to hold in your body's warmth on frozen lifts and high-speed laps. A powder skirt, lift pass clip, wrist, handwarmer, media, and goggle pockets make the Razor as tailored for skiing and boarding as possible, while two-ply HyVent in the exterior shell is fully seam-taped for total protection, if the temperature ever goes high enough to start a melt.
Well my first impression of this jacket is very favorable. It has some really nice features. The hood is removable, the front zip pockets are deep and lined for warmth. The inside goggle and I Pod pocket are a really nice touch. the fit is great. I got a L and I am 5' 11" and 180 lbs. It looks to be a typical NF product, well made and it should last a long time. I have bought numerous NF products over the years and they have never let me down, this jacket continues the tradition.
I'm considering this jacket for snowshoeing/fall winter hiking. Is the hood made for helmet use? I want a jacket that fits my head well, not a helmet. Any info on this would be helpful or other similar jackets that have a non huge hood. Thanks.
TNF does not specify this hood as being built for a helmet. This will most likely fit your dome nicely. You'll be able to cinch the hood around your melon with the pulls on either side of the face.
The Razor jacket is a great coat. It has the warmth that you get from a big coat, but without the bulk. The coat is waterproof which helps out when it is raining or snowing really hard. There's some really cool things to the jacket like the zipper on the arm that has a cleaning cloth or the goggle/glove holder inside the jacket. The jacket is just overall really great. It would be perfect for anyone who doesn't like to be cold or wet during the winter of a rainy day.
Define "seal." The jacket is waterproof and has a lifetime warranty, so if it starts to defect, you can get another, but it's generally recommended to treat rainjackets with DWR once a year/season or so (Or as needed).
