The North Face Pamir WindStopper Fleece Jacket - Men's
Wind can turn a pleasant hike into a frigid experience, so take to the trail sporting The North Face Men’s Pamir WindStopper Fleece Jacket. Thanks to totally windproof Gore WindStopper fleece, this comfy jacket is a perfect fit on any blustery day. Abrasion resistant panels add mucho durability, and the jacket’s performance fit layers easily under your shell when winter rolls around.
Bottom Line: The wind’s a blowin’ and the Pamir’s a blockin’ it.
Ok, I was surprised to see that there was no small option so I checked on other sites and no one offers a small. Why? Did TNF just give up that market? Very disappointing....
By cutting the wind, it's as warm as a heavier fleece, but layers easier and moves with you better. Drawstring waist, inside zipper flap, velcro cuffs help to block out weather. Seems just a tiny bit on the short side for length, which helps when active or when under a shell. Breaths well, I don't overheat when stepping indoors while wearing it. Absolutely solid for temps 50+, warm down to the low 40's with just short sleeves underneath if moving, needs long sleeves or layering for anything colder or just standing about. The windstopper fabric isn't quite as soft as traditional fleece, but it's still really comfortable on the skin. Includes napolean pocket not listed in specs.
Not water resistant. Would do ok in a light rain if it's not for very long. If you are looking for something that has more warmth than just a rain jacket or shell, look at a lined softshell, or anything that's been treated with a DWR (durable water repelant).
What's the fleece weight/warmth of this jacket? I see it's Gore Windstopper Fleece, but is that comparable to 100, 200, 300 weight? And how does this jacket compare to the Mountain Hardware Windstopper or TNF Denali Wind Pro (or other similar fleece)?
I would compare this jacket to a 200 weight fleece. Compared to the Denali Wind Pro, the Pamir is lighter (Denali is 300 weight). Another big difference is that Winderstopper is a total windblocking laminate, while the Wind Pro fabic is not - it blocks about 4 times more wind than traditional fleece. Bottom line: Pamir: more versatile weight, more weather resistance Denali Wind Pro: Warmer, more breathable, heavier
