Whether you live in Anchorage, Milwaukee, or Timbuktu, The North Face Nuptse Jacket protects your boy from the bitter wind and freezing temps. The North Face stuffed the Nuptse jacket with 600-fill goose down to keep him toasty on the coldest days. Reinforced stitching stands up to the abuse little guys put their clothing through, and hand-warmer pockets give his digits a place to hide when the wind-chill hits negative numbers.
Bottom Line: Warm enough to withstand a Midwestern winter.
I bought my son the aconcagua which is only 550 fill last year. I regretted it after I checked out the nuptse I got my daughter. So I made sure to get him the nuptse in the next size. I bought a bunch if stuff through Backcountry and not only did they ship it free and FAST, they were fantastic about returns. I will definitely order through them again and tell all my friends about them!!
super warm. got an earlier version, not the shiny one. wish i had waited for the water repellency. great jacket, very warm and confy. zips in to a TNF shell of corresponding size. theat combo is unbeatable for skiing. love this jakcet
It is 600 fill european goose down. It is washable, but I advise people not to wash down any more than they have to. Most stains can be taken care of by hand. Every time you wash a down jacket, the feathers lose a little bit of the natural oils that they need to keep the down's loft. Like I said, it is washable, but you want to keep washings to a minimum.
I had bought this jacket in black size L for my 12yrold son, who weighs approx 90lbs. it was a little snug and knew he would not be able to wear it past this season so I bought the XL. It is a little roomy and he thinks it is cooler to have it that way. The black jacket looks very shiny in the picture but it is not so, it is the same finish as the other jackets shown. Great everyday jacket in the coldest Ca. weather and for Ca. mountains. The customer service was easy and friendly, price was the best I found and standard free delivery was faster than expected, I ordered on monday night and received it friday morning.
Ordered this jacket with a little apprehension because I was so unsure of the sizing. My 10 year old is average size, wears a 10-12 in nearly all brands of clothes, and I ordered Large 14-16 at the recommendation of a friend. I am glad I did, because it definitely runs smallish. He may not even get to wear it next year!! However, he loves it, the quality is awesome.
Keeps my son warm and dry. He wears it on the mountain and in the rain. He stays dry and warm. He had an old one that he grew out of and had me buy him this new one.
What type of lining is on the inside of the coat? If there is an area with cloth for extra warmth, where is this located on the inside of the coat? Thanks
My whole family has always loved The North Face. When my son outgrew his old black Nuptse jacket, I ordered him a new one for Christmas. When it arrived, I opened it only to be disappointed by the thinness of the jacket. What happened to all the "stuffing"? My husband assumed that once it was out of the package, it would "fluff up". No such luck. My son is happy with it but it looks and feels like a lightly padded windbreaker. Strange.
I purchased this for my son to use in the South Island of New Zealand and although it's pretty big it's already worth it. It's so warm that my son (5 y/o) was asking to take it off cause it was too hot. I'd buy one for anyone needing an around town extreme cold down jacket.
I agree with Tanner review. I bought this coat for my daughter b/c it had the most down fill compared to the others. I was surprised that the coat is so thin and months later, it still is. I've seen the "Greenland" which has a lesser down fill but appears to be much thicker and warmer.
It was a little frustrating in the beginning because I had to return two coats because they were too small. Finally I got the size right because they run rather small and my son really enjoys the coat and it keeps him very warm. It is a great coat and I recommend it. It is light weight and not bulky and keeps you very warm.
I didn't hear anything about the size and I ordered based on the measurements - my son's jacket Just Fits - if not too small. I was a bit disappointed! He was so happy to get it that he wore it right away but I don't think I'd order online again b/c the measurements that they have don't match the actual size that is sent.
My son loves the coat. Nice and lightweight, yet warm and toasty. Beware of sizing. I had to return first coat because it runs a size or two small. Get larger size! Overall very warm, great coat for my pre-teen.
When I received the jacket, I thought for sure it was going to be way too small for my son, even though it was a size Large (12-14), but I was WRONG!! It fit wonderfully!! The brown is a great color too.. different, yet "way cool" my son says. I am very pleased with the jacket and so is my son. A definite bargain. Thanks!!
I think so- my son wore an XS when he was 4 and 5 years old (it lastest 2 years). He is 6 and I am just now buying a new size S jacket. I also have a 2.5 year old who is wearing the XXS. Hope this helps!
My boys LOVE their nuptse jackets!!!! I agree that the only way this coat could be better- is by adding a hood. Parker, my 4 year old loves to wear a hood in cold weather and was bummed when he wore this coat for the first time and started looking for a hood! They love its fluffy softness and stay out for HOURS as it is VERY warm!!!! My son usually wears a size 8 shirt and he has the medium, and it is perfect on him. Our 4 year old is a size 5-6 and the small gives him some room to grow. He'll probably still wear it next year.GREAT COAT!!!
Good jacket, although thinner than I'd expect. My husband has a Nuptse jacket from 6 years ago, and the down is loftier than this one. Definitely runs small - my son is 6 years old and I followed everyone's advice and got a larger size so it will last him at least 2 winters.
I got this jacket for my 6 year old son who is disabled. He has a motor difficulties and I am always looking for lightweight but warm winter clothes so his mobility is the least bit hampered. It is the perfect choice in our opinion. It is a nice, warm jacket with little "bulk" to get in the way. If I were ordering it for a "typically developing child," I would order one size larger than usual just so it would last a couple of seasons.
My grandson loves his new North Face Jacket in Cardinal Red and Black. He could not wait to wear it even though the weather did not call such a warm jacket.
This is the best jacket my kid's ever owned. They have it in black and red/black. It's very light and very warm. My kids even used it last March in Aspen, Colorado when skiing. It is pricey but it is worth every penny !
I have bought and been happy with 4 or 5 mens' Nuptses over the years. And I was happy with the small child's Nuptse I bought for my daughter 3 years ago. I just rec'd her new coat yesterday and my happiness with this coat has diminished. As others have commented, the loft is less than it was on my other coats, and loft = warmth. I called NF and they would not tell me the fill content for "proprietary" reasons, which I took as code for cutting corners, but refusing to say by how much. And they discontinued the waist drawstring which we all know can be tightened for additional warmth. It's just gone. NF had no answer to why it was gone, but my guess is that they thought they were saving a nickel and no one would notice. I'm debating hard whether to return this - I've been pleased with this site - but my daughter likes the color, doesn't care about the hem string -she's 11 - but whether I do or don't, I'm going to look a little harder at other jackets next time. I did not get a warm, fuzzy feeling dealing with NF through the purchase and post purchase process. I guess business must be good.
I wrote a longer, negative review which was never posted, so I'll try a shorter one. The loft on the Nuptse is not as great as in previous years, and there is NO hem or waist drawstring. None of this is good.
It was a sad day for me to come to find North Face apparel at Macy's and Nordstroms two major giants who have nothing to do with the great outdoors. I have been wearing North Face goods for the past 15 years and part of the appeal was the exclusivity of the product, that this was not your mainstream brand. I enjoyed going strictly to our local outdoor/camping store for my North Face apparel, but now it seems that anyone with little appreciation for the history of the brand can now purchase it as if they were buying Nike. I should have know something was fishy when I went to their website sometime ago and there jacket lineup was completly different. The jackets looked less technical and more fashion concious. As if they were going to model down some runway. I have bought my last North Face item and I am now searching for the next best thing.
