The Men’s Nimble Jacket is The North Face’s most-breathable softshell, ideal for aerobic activities in chilly, windy, damp weather. Zip up the Nimble Jacket when you climb a fourteener or hike to the climbing crag. Not only does this jacket breathe so you don’t sweat to death when you exert, it’s wind-resistant (10 CFM wind permeability rating) and water-repellent to protect you from the elements. A performance fit means you can layer this jacket under a hardshell should conditions deteriorate.
Bottom Line: Move fast in inclement weather without sweaty, clammy consequences.
This jacket is one of the most versatile jackets I own. It is lightweight, surprisingly water resistant and highly breathable. I have used this jacket for skiing, hiking, biking and even casual wear to restaurants. It is a perfect all round jacket and is great for layering.
Which North Face jacket should I get for the cool fall weather of San Diego, the Nimble or the Pneumatic? I'm looking for a breathable jacket that can be worn indoors as well. Also I'm 5'10" 165 lbs what is the best size for me medium or small ( I don't like my clothes baggy)?
I just purchased my second TNF Apex Nimble jacket about a month ago. This jacket is never disappointing, blocks wind fairly well even while on a bike (which is a big deal for me). This coat partnered with a Patagonia Capilene 2 base layer make even the most bitter and windy days on the bike warm and comfy and still breathable. I do a lot of hiking and schooling and always have a pack on of some kind and even on my last jacket I have never seen any wear. The Apex fabric is incredibly flexible and surprisingly durable. The jacket sheds light rain and heavy snow, if it does manage to get wet it dries super fast, doesn't stain easy and looks great to boot (Indian clay is an awesome color FYI). This coat really is the one you will wear for every activity, all the others will be kept in the closet for extreme weather. Thanks NF and Backcountry!!!
My son wanted a jacket to wear around that would be good for Spring. He is 5'11' and around 170 with a muscular build. He loves the jacket (large) and wears it to school and for sports. It is unlined and not too warm or bulky. He likes a loose cut and it fits him perfectly. He is tough on clothing and the jacket still looks new. I told him if he outgrows it I am going to grab it..
For reference I'm 5'9, 150, 38r, 32 waist, and the med fits me about perfect - I wear my stuff a little baggy. Since this is a light coat, you tend to wear this with a fairly thick layer under which can snug it up on you.
I absolutely love this jacket! It's all that I wore through the winter while walking around on campus, hiking, bike commuting, etc. I'm 5'5, 145lbs and got the small and it fits perfect for me. Worked for me in 35 degree weather. Great quality jacket.
You're really on the cusp. Kinda depends on the fit you want and what you'll be doing. My main concern would be length, but if you won't be doing much involving arms over your head, etc. and you want a slim fit, I think a MED would be fine. (I'm 6' and 190lbs and usually wear a MED.)
the material fits the job well, best for repelling wind. stays warm down to about 50 degrees F. not winter use. good for cold mornings and nights. also, it packs well.
I picked this jacket up on SteepandCheap in green and gray, which I'm guessing is a discontinued color, and it's been a great lightweight jacket. It's a nice windjacket, or with a fleece or mid-layer underneath, it's great down to 30 degrees or so. The fit is fairly true to size, though I would prefer it be an inch or two longer. Overall, it's a great spring or fall jacket.
