The North Face N.F.Z. 25 Backpack - 1700cu in

How about a pack that has a fold-out back panel for sitting and chilling on the snow? Check. OK, how about a snowboard carry system that’s horizontal so your board is off your hip-bones and out of the way of your legs? Check. It’s all in The North Face N.F.Z. 25 Backpack.

  • Large front compartment for shovel
  • Fold-down back panel for relaxing on the snow
  • Stash pocket on waist-belt for point-and-shoot
  • Organizer pocket in main compartment makes sure small stuff doesn’t disappear
  • PR sheet in back panel adds stability
  • Tuck-away compression straps for no-snag tree runs

Bottom Line: Fold out your back panel and relax for a while (in a safe no-slide zone, that is).

This is an absolutely awesome pack for the backcountry enthusiast. It's deceptively compact, but holds a ton of gear. It's got a snowboard carrying system which allows you to carry your board either vertically or horizontally. I've used it both ways, and I personally prefer the vertical carrying system. It also lets you carry skis diagonally which I've used once or twice. It also has the ability to carry a hydration system such that the tube passes through the insulated shoulder strap which helps prevent freezing. I haven't actually used the fold-down back panel for sitting in the snow, but it's kind of a neat feature. There are two main pockets which are huge and carry a ton of stuff and one smaller fleece lined pocket I use for goggles or media players. The one very minor downside is that most of the storage is in huge compartments rather than multiple smaller compartments, which makes finding small items in your pack harder when you're on the go. But this pack has served me well and is built very nicely.
