The North Face Mountain Guide Mitten - 2007

Thanks to a removable, high-loft fleece liner and waterproof Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric, The North Face Mountain Guide Mittens are ready for super cold and mild mountaineering expeditions. The Gore-Tex shell blocks moisture on ice climbs, and the tool-friendly molded fit and leather palm make it easy to grip your ice axe. When the weather warms up, pull the warm fleece liner out. The Mountain Guide Mitten's full-length gauntlets fit over your jacket sleeves, and the cuffs can be adjusted single-handedly.

Bottom Line: A removable liner in The North Face Mountain Guide Mittens helps you adjust to changing weather on mountaineering trips.

Won't last long

By:
December 17, 2008

I bought these mittens before a trip out to Vail last year. Maybe it was because of overuse due to the fact that I was skiing with them, but the fleece on the inside of the liner began falling off in chunks almost immediately. The gloves were super warm, but dealing with chunks of fleece insulation made me pretty unhappy - especially after spending $130.00 on them.

I wonder if anyone else had the same problem?

You're in the wrong place. If you're trying to get in touch with North Face, go on their website and check for contact info. If you're addressing Backcountry, a whole host of other problems arise. First, the Gear Questions (questions about gear) are not the place to ask about jobs. Second, Backcountry.com brand gear is made in Canada and/or China, so that's probably not what you're looking for. Third, the only location of Backcountry.com in the US is in Salt Lake City, and that's headquarters, warehouse, and distribution, not assembly. Good luck with your search, but this isn't the place to start.

This glove will save fingers

By:
June 18, 2009

Team,

Yes, the inner glove sheds a bit (BIG deal) who cares, as long as your fingers are smiling - that is the bottom line - on My Baker at 20 degrees in high winds my hands were hot ...... smoking hot

Pretty good layering system - Buy a pair

They kept my hands and fingers warm in -17 degrees Celsius (0 F) last winter. Had a 4 day trip with temp between -5 an -17 degrees C. I stayed in cabins at night and was skiing all day long. I think the min temp depends on the hands wearing the mittens..

North Face Mtn. Guide Mitten

By:
April 3, 2008

The size of the mitten hand is good because it is not big and bulky, however the mittens are not as warm as advertised.

The cuff that goes up the arm is long enough but the opening is not large enough to go over the coat sleeve.

The cord lock on the wrist strap is difficult to use.

Other that these things I like the gloves. I'll have to see how they wear over time.

I found these have poor insulation and fall apart very quickly.

Hands still cold

By:
March 11, 2008

These are not the mittens for my chronically cold female paws. They failed to keep my hands warm in 20 degree weather.
