The North Face Mountain 25 Tent - 2-Person 4-Season
Engineered to withstand the extreme wind and snow loading on high-altitude adventures, The North Face Mountain 25 two-person tent keeps you warm and dry as you hunker down for the night. The North Face's lift technology uses an upper level vent which enables the four-season Mountain 25 Tent to lift slightly as the wind blows. That way, you can sleep soundly without feeling like you're being blown sideways off the mountain. While you're sealed inside, the Mountain 25 allows you to peek out and check the weather through a durable polyurethane window. And should you come stumbling into camp in the dark, The North Face thoughtfully included reflective guyline loops, guylines, and glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls for setup ease under a new moon.
Bottom Line: The North Face Mountain 25 two-person Tent gives you a bomber four-season expedition tent that's ideal for high camps and summit pushes.
So i got this tent for christmas and i wanted to practice putting it up. Without using stakes to secure the base, does this tent have a tendency to squeeze the floor together at the center point of the tent? Hope this makes sense.
The ideal 2 man 4 season tent that withstands strong winds & heavy snow loads. Extremely durable as well as fairly light- 7lbs. Due to an exterior venting system, it allows air flow that reduces wind effect on the tent. Special features include 2 entrances- 1 with a large vestibule, interior venting zippers, 2 large mesh pockets per side, glow in the dark zippers, vestibule window, mesh screens with hooks, durable floor, and enough space for 3 if you really had to squeeze in there. Have used this tent in the Colorado high country for spring skiing, as well as a tent for 3 people at Camp III on Gasherbrum II last summer (23,500ft). The tent has maintained its structure and performed perfectly, withstanding serious snow loads & high winds upon our return to it from days away at a time.
Quick tip- this tent can be stuffed back into it's sack, so no need to fold it in a precise pattern to get it to fit! Makes packing up & getting out really fast and easy.
I'll agree the tent is bomber & has a bunch of great features - sturdy, well sized (plenty of headroom while slim enough to fit on smaller ledges), good pole and stuff sack designed for quick setup & storage.
i really love this tent. i can't think of anything i would change about it. there is a small vestibule on the back end that i use to stash snowshoes etc. the front vestibule is big enough to cook under and stash packs while sleeping. the body of the tent is just about right for two people to sleep in with plenty of mesh pockets on the walls for little stuff. as others have said, this tent is well able to withstand plenty of wind and snow weight. i too have woken up in the morning to find myself partially buried. the tent sets up pretty easy and ends up tight as a drum. i would recommend a practice run though before you leave the first time since it would make things way easier. i also love the compression sack it comes in--it was a nice bonus.
Whats with the little aluminum tube that comes with the stakes? Does it serve a purpose? Also the instructions say this tent is supposed to come with 10 guylines, and im only counting 7. I got this as a gift so im wondering if i should contact who we purchased it from (not Backcountry, sorry) to ask about the extra guylines.. otherwise ill just pick up some extras somewhere else. Otherwise looks awesome. Slept outside last night in about 20 degree weather and was sweating my you know what off in my Solar Flare. I set up for the first time in the dark with a lantern, real easy, no problems. So far awesome tent.
I Have been using this tent for a few years now and it holds up to high winds, massive downpours and heavy snow loads. I once woke up to a foot of snow on top of the tent. Weight is acceptable for this level of protection. One problem--this tent does not breathe well in summer, and can get very warm.
I'm considering this tent for some winter/alpine camping. How cramped is it gonna be for me (6' - 175lbs) and my brother (6'3" - 210lbs)? I've read some reviews that say it might be tight for someone over 6' - any taller guys out there tried this tent? Unfortunately outdoor stores in my area don't carry many 4-season tents. Thanks!
I'm 6'3 and only crawled into the tent in a local REI - unless I laid diagonally, I couldn't fit into the tent. For this price range though, I'd try the MH Trango 2. Its a bit heavier - but much roomier and longer. I had several inches to spare when I laid down in it. Also, IMHO, I think MH makes a better tent than the TNF, although I haven not used 4-season TNF tents, only lighter 3-season ones. I'm currently using the BD fitzroy and its comparable in size to the Trango 2, but more $$ and lighter weight. Hope this helps!
This tent is ideal for base camp situations where you can get it set up right and leave it. This isnt a tent that you want to set up and tear down alot. The fly, and the ventilation system relys on the stakes alot, so if you plan to camp in the snow make sure you bring plenty of snow anchors. I am 6'-0" and the length of the tent is just right. If you are taller then that you might have some issues. If you can get all of the anchors to hold this tent is bomb proof, and holds up to all weather situations. It is heavy, but like the other reviews say, the protection is worth it.
This seems like a real nice tent that i can bring everywhere but Is this too hot for the summer? also, this is about half pound heavier than the 3 season tent that I'm considering, how would that extra 1/2 pound feel like? Thanks in advance
These tents are bomb proof! They do tend to heat up during the summer but you can ditch the rain fly and vent it out a bit and you should be fine. 1/2 pound can feel like a ton if you're really weighted down but I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is just a great, solid tent! Hope that helps.
I bought this tent in 1999 and it still holds up strong with no leaking or peeling of any kind. I just bought another one yesterday - saw the new one on sale and couldn't pass it up!! Yes, it can get hot in the summer but I have used it throughout all 4 seasons. Whether setting up in puddles or snow, it has held up exceptionally well. The only thing that I have never liked about it is that it weighs a lot for a tent. If I had the extra money, I would go for the new Mountain Hardware tents (super light).
condensation control to keep the fly off the tent when applicable. they are light, and go a long way in makeing sure there is an insulative layer even under hard winds or heavy snow.
I really like this tent. In harsh winter storms you'll sleep well knowing you're protected from such a great tent. It's got just enough room for two average sized people (I'm 5'8", girlfriend is 5') and some gear. There's great mesh pockets on the walls for odds and ends (glasses, headlamp, gloves, whatever) and the vestibules are great for your backpacks. However, I wouldn't bring this with me in the summer. It's too heavy and bulky and with two people inside it'll definitely create lots of condensation, even with the vents open. But if you want something to save your ass in high altitudes and in winter storms, this fits the bill perfectly.
i love this tent it rock solid, iv used it for winter camping, snowshowing and alpine climbing in UT CO and ID and it has preformed very very well. this thing is a bob proff you could probaly lay on it(only kidding DO NOT LAY ON IT) i love this tent NF did a great job very well air flow and good ventalation
Write your question here...I am considering the NF Mountain 25 tent, 2 person 4 season. I am not going to be camping in the snow however but need it for Alaska in July, It rains and can get a little windy. I'll be alone. I cant see how much venting the tent has. I am worried I'll wake up with too much condensation in the morning. Can I see the tent without the rainfly? Is there enough venting or can you point me to a great NF 3-season 2 man tent? Weight is NOT an issue. I mostly car camp.
This tent kept me going along the Kungsleden in the winter of 2007 (www.i907.net). Rock solid stability, a bit odd to setup solo though when your cold. I never had any problems with the tent. It was very easy to spot at night with all it's reflective lines. Plenty of space for one person and gear or two people. Snow anchors help tremendously if your camping in high wind. I recommend getting the footprint as well.
I spent a week on Mt Baker in the Cascades. This tent did everything it was supposed too plus some.I was easy to set up. It was roomey, comnfortable, withstood some marginal weather and warmed things up.
This has become my favorite tent. The only draw back I can see is warm weather. I would be hot inside but then you can open both end and let the breeze flow through.
This tent is bomb proof! Was on Mt Shasta in April, it snowed, wind was blowing 25+, and this tent was awesome! Everyone else was miserable, but with proper snow stakes (sand and snow stakes from REI) this tent held up and was quite roomy for two. The vestibule was great for cooking and storage of gear. Ventilation was good. Only draw back was weight, but if you split it up, the fly and poles it really is not that bad. Well worth it!!!
