The North Face made the Men’s Momentum Fleece Jacket with lightweight TKA Superstretch fleece fabric so you can layer it up in extreme weather or wear it alone for aerobic use. This 100-weight fleece provides excellent insulation and mobility for cold winter runs, XC skiing, or snowshoeing. The athletic cut fits well under a shell for backcountry skiing or winter climbing trips.
Bottom Line: Lightweight, mobile, and versatile insulation.
I like this jacket because I feel instantley warm when I put it on. And for extreme cold as an extra layer you will be toasty warm.It has a good athletic fit! I remember the old fleece jackets were bulky and very heavy to carry around. Not this fleece it is half the weight! You need a thin jacket over top if it is a windy day!
It's basically a measure of the insulating capacity and water vapor (sweat) permeability of a fleece. Fleece jackets usually come in a range from 100- to 300-weight. 100-weight is good for staying warm during high aerobic activities (like running or cross-country skiing) in the spring and fall.
Wondering about the color. Citronelle green looks more like a drab yellow in the pic, which is what I want. Is the color in the pic pretty accurate, or is it more of a neon green?
Ive had this jacket for almost 2 years and it serves its purpose really well. It's quite light and the stretch fabric gives you great flexibility and mobility for almost any activities. I use it on hikes and I use it on cold days going to work. It offers moderate water resistance and when its really pouring, you can just throw in an outer shell layering and youll be able to handle just about anything. The monkey thumbs are also a great addition so the sleeves wont hike-up your arms, especially when youre sleeping with it on.
Anyone know which design year this is? I really want an 07 model, though its not available. Tried on a friend's and loved it! I'm sure the 08 and 09 are the same, just wondering if this jacket has the monkey thumbs or not?
I found the perfect performance geared outerlayer/midlayer in the North Face Momentum fleece! The tailoring is very athletic in terms of cut and movement, the TKA 100 fleece has just enough elasticity in the fabric to stretch and move with me while out on trail runs (my intended purpose in buying the jacket). The warmth to weight ratio is perfect for cool to cold conditions (50F-20F), depending on how you supplement the jacket. I've used the Momentum jacket and a short sleeve Patagonia Capilene 1 shirt for cold morning trail runs around 32F and found the Momentum jacket to move moisture quickly and insulate efficiently even after the sweat starts flowing. I'm 5'11" and about 155-160lbs. and purchased a small, I ordered it small knowing that I would use it as a midlayer primarily, the fit is spot on for running, climbing, backpacking etc., no excess fabric or bunching, it feels more like a great fitting longsleeve shirt than a jacket. I believe this jacket was meant to be purchased snug, so I would recommend leaning towards a snug fit or even going down in size as the Superstretch fabric does exactly that, stretch and conform, without feeling or looking UnderArmourish. The men's size small for me provided just the right amount of room for a longsleeve merino wool baselayer underneath without feeling too tight or compressing. The only downside to this jacket is in fact the jacket DOES NOT HAVE THUMBHOLES as it shows in the picture, just get yourself a great baselayer with thumbholes and you're set. If you plan on doing any kind of full body activity in cool/cold weather this is a great piece of gear that you'll find a home for in your kit without a hitch.
I had a volt soft shell for a couple of years before I managed to forget it in a lecture hall at my university. Needless to say, I never saw it again. That being said, I'm looking to replace it. I was definately satisfied with it, but I've also been eyeing the pneumatic and the momentum. Any comments could swing which one I get. Fall is pretty much here now and I'm finding myself without my "old faithful" jacket to fall back on. Help!
Bummer you lost your volt, here is my two cents. If you are looking for almost and exact replacement of the volt go with the nimble jacket, if you are looking for something a little more fleecy with less wind and weather protection than the volt the momentum is great and probably the better layering piece, the pneumatic is heavier than the volt and will offer better wind and weather protection than your volt.
Haven't had a chance to really use it yet, but I've tried it on and it fits great and is extremely comfortable. It has 3 zippered pockets, so it's good for holding your stuff and it stretches when you move. Perfect for activities. I plan on using it on my commute as a light jacket and as a base layer for snowboarding.
I would go with the XL if you are not planning on wearing it while layering. It has an athletic fit. I wear a large and after a few washes it is actually a little small but still perfect for layering.
As someone that tends to heat up quickly during physical activity, I was looking for a light spring jacket that would cut the chill when I left my apartment in the morning, but not cook me as I walked to work. This does the job perfectly. It's kept me warm down to 40 degrees (I haven't tried it in anything colder) and never ever leaves me damp. Put a hard shell over it, and you can handle almost any weather.
The fit is slim in the forearms which is odd at first, but I quickly got used to it. I'm 6'1" 185 lbs and the Large is a loose but good fit around my torso. The arms are long, but that's to be expected in a monkey-thumbed jacket.
I highly recommend it both as a light spring jacket and a super-warm midlayer.
This jacket it great for running, and it stands up to any conditions. I love running, and here in Wisconsin you have to put up with what you get. Rain, sleet, cold, or just windy this is a great layer to throw on when you're outside in the elements. I wear it all spring and fall, can't leave the house without it. Not a fan of coats you can swim in, so this was perfect. It's a close fit, but does stretch if you need to layer. Only downfall: I've had mine for about 2 years and my monkey thumbs are starting to fray... other than that, its a great jacket.
