The North Face Meridian Convertible Pant - Men's - 2007
The North Face Men's Meridian Convertible Pants convert to shorts for optimum versatility. The stretchy yet abrasion-resistant nylon fabric is virtually bombproof. The sanded finish provides a soft cotton-like feel, and the elastic waist with drawcord creates a secure, individualized fit. The Meridian Convertible Pant packs into its own right rear zip pocket for packing ease.
I love these pants. I was sick and tired of blue jeans stretching and wearing thin, so I bought three pair of Meridians with no previous knowledge of their fit or material and I love them. Now I don't bother with any other kind of pant. Recently, I've worn them in twenty degree weather and find they keep me just as warm as jeans. Plus they are so light that it feels like they aren't even there.
While they are a bit longer than i thought, it is not too bad. Very breathable and quick drying form the little use I have put them through. If something comes up after my hike throughout the Smokies, i will report back, but so far so good. Also, the zipper is hardly noticeable like other pants.
great summer pants, they are thin and dry very well. wish they were cut just a little larger. M is a little small, L is too big. also wish they had side zips. remarkably tough for how thin they are. these are my go-to late spring-summer-early fall pants.
Went on an extreme cave tour in them. Was able to move very well in them. The pants held up very well except for one litle hole in the backside probably created when trying to maneuver through a very tight spot. Don't think hook and loop is good for any pockets on a pant when being worn when your being very active.
These pants are great. The shorts are not too short and fit nice. Fast drying and lightweight. I found it strange that there is a strap and button to roll up the pants as capris, especially on guys pants. Other than that, I love them.
This pants are light enough to wear in the tropical environment of costa rica, and I get hot very easily, and wick moisture very well. They are durable too and convert easily to shorts with ample pocket room. They do resist mud stains and the like, but horse chips surely stain them as I found out.
These pants are great....very lightweight, but still all the protection you need for summer hiking. I ordered the short size, because The North Face always fits a little longer than most brands.
I bought the Meridian first and decided that I liked the Paramount convertible pant much better. The Merdian is very thin, lacks pockets and the zip off pants legs are harder to get off over boots than the Paramount pant. I love the paramount pants, I have since bought a pair for my wife.
Good length, styling, pockets, dried very quickly. One problem, when wearing with fleece jacket, the pants collected lint like you would not believe. Thought maybe it was the jacket, but did not have same problem with other pants.
I love these pants! Climbed in the Gorge this past weekend and they held up nicely. However, watch those knees. I still got scraped a bit but its not the pants fault. A+ Recommend to anyone!
Overall, this is a fabulous pair of pants. My only regret is that the shorts aren't a few inches longer. If you're under 30, I can almost guarantee you'll feel the same... +40 buyers probably will find the length perfect. Still probably worth the purchase though. I bought these for a trip to Thailand this April, which also happens to be the hottest month of their year. Many religious sites there require that you wear pants, so I figured the lightweight convertible style was definitely the way to go. The pants reduce to an absurdly small and lightweight package, which was fabulous for traveling and hiking while there. They were wonderfully comfortable, breathed well, and easily roll/button up to 3/4 length when needed. I just wish I could've used them as shorts too... Another small issue, if I'm to be really picky, is that they get pretty wrinkled after being packed up.
After a two week trip to Alaska and three days in these pants, I can say they worked flawlessly. They were comfortable in 70F weather and on long hikes. I only had one issue, the rear pockets are very deep and my wallet when in the rear pocket was too low and felt odd when sitting. The good news is that it fit really well in one of the front pockets which are well positioned.
I got these pants not knowing if I would like them or not. I am so glad I got them...they kept me cooler as I could zip off the legs....and when I got rained on...they dried very very fast, much like a swim suit. They also provided more than enough protection when I decided to slide down a granite face....no rips...no tears. Great pants north face...and great service from this site.
As a travel writer who just returned from a 3-month research trip in Brazil, I can offer high praise for the comfort and durability of these pants. I was looking for something lightweight, quick drying, and comfortable in 90-degree weather, yet rugged enough to stand up under the rigors of hiking and rock climbing. These pants excelled in all areas. I used them as long pants while ascending several 8- to 10,000-foot mountains, but also found ample occasion to zip them down into shorts, especially at the beach, where I even used them as a swimsuit on occasion (yes, they did look dorky, but in my experience that's to be expected with any convertible pant, and at least North Face is less fashion-challenged than some companies out there). I have always been a big fan of both The North Face and Patagonia, so bought one pair of convertible pants from each company for this trip. In my informal comparison test, the North Faces were way better than the Patagonias, both because of the lower price and because of the more useful array of pockets. For Brazilian travel, I found the internal money belt pocket and the front zipper pocket on the left leg (where I often stored my camera) particularly useful. I actually ended up returning the Patagonias and wearing The North Face pair almost exclusively--way more days in a row than you want to know about!
I would recommend these pants highly to anyone taking an active, multi-altitude trip in the tropics. I will be buying two more pairs for my next trip to South America.
Super light weight and love how the cargo pockets are on the side of the leg. This way the contents of the pockets do not rub when I climb or walk fast!
Very comfortable. I bought them for a trip to the far east but haven't gone yet. I chose this fabric because it doesn't get wet ie doesn't show sweat - important in very humid conditions.
just came back from Southamerica travel afer 18 month - these pants are resisting jungle, saltwater, snow, everything you need - washed 2 times a week or even more...dry superfast - needs almost no storespace....superlight and good sewing...they look a bit worn out right now - but just the right time to place a new order...greets from Switzerland
When I first bought these pants, I was a bit skeptical. My fears were relieved as soon as I pull them out of the packaging. These pants provide a great fit where they're loose, but not too loose. These pants move great. Also, the fabric is super comfortable and I love the texture. The construction of these pants feels solid and I will soon be buying a 2nd pair of these to add to my gear closet.
Not really what I was expecting. The cut is baggy, and the material is very lightweight, which is good and bad. havent really tested these pants yet, but Id be surprised if they turn out to be particularly durable. A good deal if you can get them on sale.
