If your morning exercise involves shoveling three feet of fresh from your driveway, outfit your feet with The North Face Women's McMurdo Boot to keep them dry and warm. The North Face backed the waterproof nubuck leather upper with a HydroSeal waterproof membrane, so you can trudge though tons of the white stuff without getting wet. A faux-fur collar, fleece lining, and PrimaLoft Eco insulation ensure your tootsies stay warm when the mercury drops, and a TNF Winter Grip rubber outsole with Ice Pick lugs keeps you on your feet in front of the neighbors.
Bottom Line: Pull on this boot when it feels like the Antarctic ice sheet out there.
these boots rule. so warm. great traction and comfortable. i have walked for hundreds of miles for weeks at a time as well as just cruising around the city. they are also very low profile for being such a "big" winter boot.
In my opinion the best 2 brands for snow boots are Sorel and TNF. Between those and amongst the rest I'd say TNF have the best support especially for flat feet.Hope that helps.
I bought these boots for snowshoeing and generally getting around in the snow, which has been generous this year. I like them a lot; they provide great support for walking and snowshoeing. I can fit one or two pairs of warm socks--you'd definitely want two pairs in cold weather. I got 8.5 (I wear an 8 usually). I especially like the good traction they provide--I have a lot more confidence on icy/snowy ground. The fur cuffs do a good job of keeping the snow out. I would recommend these boots.
Just checked a couple other sites... -40F/-40C. Not sure why -40 in both F and C, but I guess at that point it's just cold no matter how you look at it
Having come off of reconstructive surgery on my right foot, and being a very heavy pronator, I needed to find a boot that would provide comfort and support especially in snow and ice conditions/ post ski. These boots worked well but if you are a heavy pronator, custom orthotics will also be helpful. Boots are true to size, keep you warm, work well in snow and on ice, and are comfortable providing more stability that apres ski boots.
I work in an outdoor setting in wet snow conditions and temps between 40 to -10 degrees. These boots are comfortable, warm, dry but most importantly provide great support. I have tried different brands over the years and these are superior to all the others. Love Them!
So, I never got the McMurdo Jacket because it has a steez factor of about 95 from the ability to hide various weapondry to the multiple XL sizing and the fur... but these boots were an instant buy because they escape a few of those factors by having a gentle, girly pink accent. They are possibly the warmest boots that I have ever worn. The fur makes the cozy-cozy, the intense rubber makes them ultra-waterproof, and the TNF logo means that they are super good quality. Size-wise, I went up a half size (i'm a 7.5/8.0 and bought an 8) so that I can rock huge wool socks. They are my go-to boots for post-skiing and pre-shoveling.
These boots fit nicely lengthwise and can take one pair of wool... socks. I would prefer a tad more width in the toe area cause i have a medium size foot width.. They are light enough to move around quickly. I don't care for the fur on top and would have preferred black vs the color brown... none were avail. The bad thing is... they only keep me warm to about 15 degrees and if the windchill is not strong. I have no idea who could possibly say they keep you warm to -40??? Ha! No way!!
I don't have a lot of input on these boots yet. I bought them for my mom for christmas and she hasn't had to a chance to tak them in the snow. However, my mom said they are more comfortable than her shoes. Also they are pretty stylish.
