The clear blue skies outside were deceptive and it's actually insultingly cold outside, especially for October. Luckily you stashed The North Face Women's Khumbu Fleece Jacket in your day-hiking backpack. Pull this cozy fleece out and cover your torso in fuzzy warmth. Since it will be winter at some point, The North Face made this mid-weight fleece with zippers that are zip-in compatible with TNF shells. The Khumbu's regular fit means you layer long-sleeve shirts underneath this jacket without feeling like a stuffed horse, and the fleece fabric breathes so you don't get clammy when you're hiking.
Bottom Line: Mid-weight fleece for non-suffocating warmth.
I ordered the brown one in size sm. (I heard it runs big). I am 5'6 130lbs. It fits perfect! Very nice and light weight. I would give it 5 stars, I got it for my trip to germany/austria. If you were me, looking for a nice fleece jacket, and want something a little thicker/warmer then the thin ones in the retail stores at the mall, I think this is the perfect one!! The zipper is easy to zip up and down and doesn't get stuck. It's a really nice jacket!
Great mid- to heavy-weight fleece. I don't have the outer shell that it snaps into, so I wear it as a stand-alone jacket right now. Really happy with the way it's wearing and how warm it is.
The jacket is warm and cozy. BUT it does indeed run big. I am 5'7 about 135 pounds and the Medium is a little big. I will keep it, but all my layers will definitely have to go under it, not over it. It still fits under my tnf puffy, but it is not fitted like some people wear their fleece. My advice.... if your hesitant to buy a small because you are always medium... suck it up and listen to all these wise reviews. I wish I would have!
Write your question here...I read that the fleece runs big so I was wondering what size to get my daughter? She is about 5' 7'' and weighs about 110-115. What size should I get?
My daughter is about the same size and I ordered a Med. She likes to layer and likes "room". I think it will fit nicely on her, she will be getting it for her birthday beginning of December.
I'm deciding between the Pumori, kumba or the Denali. I live in central NC and the weather during the day is 50-60 and at night 30-40. Which should I get to get the most use?
For the temperatures that you listed, I would think the Pumori or Khumbu would be the more usable weights. From there, it is really just a matter of fabric difference - the Pumori is a Polartec fleece, while the Khumbu is a proprietary fleece. They are both nice, I like the clean looks of the Pumori - but obviously that is totally subjective. Hope this helps-
I am 5'4", 120 lbs and bought this jacket in a small and realized it was too roomy. I exchanged it for a an xs, and love it. The jacket arrived in just a few days, and when I returned it, my return was processed quickly, and my other jacket arrived shortly. The jacket is fitted, but it is also roomy enough to layer.
I purchased one of these fleeces several years ago, and I still wear it regularly. It is one of my favorite North Face fleeces. It isn't completely windproof, but it is a thicker fleece, and is great for fall and spring weather. In winter I can pair it with a hoodie and it is warm enought to wear around campus in 20 degree weather. (Trust me, I live in Wisconsin.)
I am 5'5" and about 112, and I wear a small. The sleeves are just right for me, and I have long arms. It isn't quite as fitted as some fleeces, but it works well if you are layering underneath, and by no means looks baggy.
Was looking for jackets on TNF website when i found backcountry. The jackets were on sale for a good price. Purchased 4 of them. After I had placed my order I discovered one of the jackets was the wrong size. I did the on line chat with a customer service person and they got the size changed before it was shipped so I did not have to return it which was great. I recommended backcountry to family and friends they all placed orders with you. Will order from you again in the future.
Good fit. I prefer the fit of standard fleece than soft-shells. Soft-shells don't take the shape of your body so nicely. The fleece looks as cool as TNF can be! It's pretty warm even BUT it doesn't offer any wind protection so, it's better used as inner layer when it's cold and windy; Combined with a windproof/waterproof shell would be great even for near freezing days!
I am normally an xsmall or small in women's shirts (35" bust) and the size Small for this jacket fits just fine. I am able to put it on over a shirt & sweater and wear it zipped up, and it's slim fitting but definitely not tight. I'm 5'2" - and the torso and sleeve length were fine for me.
Bought my daughter the pink/slate grey one for Christmas. She loved it so much she ordered one foe herself in the brown. We love Backcountry. Great prices and service!
I ordered 4 of these jackets 1 for myself, my two daughters and one of my daughters boyfriend. We all love them. My daughters boyfriend has worn his every day since he got it Christmas.
This jacket was a GREAT buy! I live in Tennessee and the weather is totally unpredictable here. So its great when the temperature is cool or cold too! It is also very comfortable and moves with you instead of being stiff like some similar jackets. Again, this jacket was a great buy and is a highly recommended purchase!
What tempature range is the Khumbu fleece jacket good for? In my area it's really windy, in the 50/60s in the fall and 20/30s in the winter. Will this jacket be good with a long sleeve shirt?
If it is really windy, and you plan on wearing this jacket as an outerwear piece, I would seriously consider a couple of other options that will give you plenty of warmth, and much better wind resistance - keeping you much warmer- 1. The North Face Windwall 2 2. The North Face Lily Thermal Jacket 3. The North Face Redpoint Jacket 4. The North Face Bionic Thermal Jacket
All 4 of these jackets will keep you warm, and give you better wind and weather protection. Hope this helps-
What is the difference between Black/Black and the Black color that is discontinued - it appears they show exactly the same pictures. I am looking at the Khumbu's.
No didfference - just the price! My teenage girls got these a few weeks ago and I don't think they've taken them off yet! Oh, I did wash one and it looks fabulous! Great investment!
This jacket is perfect, yea its more pricey, but it pays for itself in the end. Fits like a glove and still has room for a thermal underneath. The color i got was perfect for me. alba green... its neutral color goes well with everthing. basic black gets so boring after awhile. its close fit, keeps you warm, and thats what i love about the fit and design of this jacket Happy in Harrisburg, pa
I'm wondering what size to get! I'm 5'4'' and about 120 lbs. My arms are a little long and my shoulders are a little broad. I'm anticipating layering this jacket with just a long sleeve shirt under it. I want a fit that will look cute walking around my college campus (not super tight but not really baggy), and that will also be comfortable for hiking and backpacking. Would a small or extra small be better? Thanks!
We live in Ohio and I am one who hates wearing a winter coat because of the bulk. I love wearing this. It is warm and toasty yet not bulky. Probably not meant for our winter weather but for someone who never wears a coat, I am warm.
No thumb holes in this one. I have a Marmot one that does have the thumb holes...not sure of the name of it though. It's a "furry" blue one that reminds me of Cookie Monster when I wear it. :)
Write your question here: Hello- I usually wear an XL in most of today's clothes- ( 5'5"- 185) I would ordinarily order an XL- any feedback? Also- does anyone have the orchid? It looks like a really pretty plum color, with a subtle purple. Does anyone have it? thanks...
Stick with the XL. I have the orchid, it's lighter than what shows on the screen. The sleeves are darker purple and the chest is dark pink/light purple.
I have had the white version for several months. I used it as a jacket in fall and now layer with it in the winter. I almost use it as a fashion sweater also. It's nice and long and very comfortable. It washes great with no pilling. I highly recommend it! Thanks for your great coustomer service too!
Hi all of my Fellow Northfacers. I am getting ready to order a few new Khumbu jackets for myself and for Christmas gifts. I heard that you have a pink Khumbu Fleece out right now in a pink with the cancer symbol for Breast Cancer month. I have looked all over for this Jacket and would love to buy it. Unfortunately I have lost several Family Member's to Breast Cancer and will do everything to support this cause, I would love to find this Jacket in a Womens' small. If anyone out there knows where i can find it, I would truly APPRECIATE your help. Thanks so much :) Cinde
LOVE this jacket! Buy it, in Northern California, you'll wear it year round. Great lighter weight alternative to the Denali and it's more flattering than the Pumori (which can look dumpy on the hips if you have any curves). Alba green in this product is less gray, more spring/leaf green than the same color in the Momentum Jacket.
Love this coat I have it in Brown and Alba Green and I live in Wisconsin. It's nice not to have to wear a heavy winter coat I can just throw on a thin sweatshirt and my north face and a scarf and I'm good to go!
Couple of things - first the Pumori is a branded Polartec fleece fabric, while the Khumbu is a proprietary TKA North Face fleece fabric- although they are both very similar 200 weights, so not much difference in warmth. The other is purely cosmetic- the lines on the jackets are quite different (Pumori is solid, while many of the Khumbu's are color blocked).
I ordered this jacket because I thought it would be similar to my 3- or 4-year-old Salathe fleece, but in comparison it is pretty boxy and seems sort of stiff. It may be that it would soften up with wear, and the boxy problem may have been because it was big on me (the medium was too big, but is what I wear in all other North Face jacketry), but I'm not willing to risk the money and find out. I'm sending it back for another Salathe.
They are the same jacket just from different seasons. TNF comes out with a new color selection every season and since black is one that stays the same they create a new way to say it such as black/black. This is what I have been told by BC gearheads anyway. makes sense
This is the coolest jacket!! Very warm and comfortable. The color is great and goes with everything. Its not too heavy and not to light, keeps your temp. just right after a workout or a hike or before warming up. Can't recommend it enough!!
Has anyone had any problems with the Khumbu pilling up? Also, I was wondering about how long after you placed your order that it typically took to receive it? Thanks!
Write your question here... I want to know if the difference between the khumbu women's fleece jacket and the pulmori fleece by northface. Also which jacket is longer?
You can go to The North Face website, and it indicates Khumbu is a heavier 300 weight jacket, versus Pumori, which is 200 (BC's spec listing for Khumbu is incorrect). Also Pumori uses the Polartec 200, and Khumbu uses TNF's TKA fleece. Honestly, I tried Khumbu, and I wasn't impressed. It was bulky, felt not nearly as nimble as Pumori.
Hi, I am 5'2 and weigh 110 lbs also and the small fits me perfectly. Hope this is helpful for you. I can't say enough how much I love this jacket!!! Good luck, and I am sure that you will also be pleased with it :)
I would compare your chest size to the sizing chart. If you're in between and have large shoulders, go with the bigger one. If not and you'd like it to be fitted, go with the smaller size. Also, make sure the sleeve lengths will work for you. Waist size can also be a good reference if you've got normal proportions.
I recommend buying a size up on this jacket just because I am usually a small and if I wanted to wear anything under it like a sweater or even a sweatshirt, there was hardly breathing room with the small. But the medium fits perfectly and it's not oversized, lengthy, or anything! :)
this is my 3rd north face jacket and i was not disappointed. i love to pea green color. it goes with everything in my closet and looks great with dress pants or jeans. it is true to fit. sleeve are just long enough and the inside pocket is great to have. i would recomend this product to anyone and everyone i know that is looking for a warm winter fleece.
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it! She bought one for herself in brown. She says it's warm without bulkiness and loves the fit. I am a very satisfied customer!
Why is the discontinued Igneous Purple $59 for XS but $71 for S? After asking friends they think I look better in the small and I do like the purple, but why almost $11 more expensive? None of the other discontinued colors are like that!
I checked and it's true, these prices are correct with the S purple requiring more cash (bummer!) It looks like they have more of the XS so they want to move them, so lowered the price on that size. Even though that isn't the case for other colors for this jacket, I've seen that for other items on the site. Cheers!
I LOVE this fleece! It is a thicker weight, but not too think to fit under a ski jacket. I'm 5'9 and 165 pounds and the medium fits perfect. I am going to order another one in a different color.
I bought a jacket from backcountry.com. Its a TNF- can I exchange it for a different size or a less expensive item at a TNF store if it is a current color? Thanks
I ordered this jacket as a gift for my sister, and she loves it! She usually wears a medium, and after reading other reviews, I ordered a small. It was perfect. I can't say enough about this site. Prices and service are outstanding. I love the free shipping option!
This is a warm, very nicely made fleece. I bought it as a gift for Christmas and ending up getting on for myself too. Love it and it will last me many years!!!
Bought 2 jackets for xmas for my twin daughters. they came quickly and they are perfect for the Bama winters. they wear them almost every day. I will definently buy from this site again thanks to the convience, no shipping fee and no sales tax.
Forgot something. Only complaint was the first time I ordered it, I got a large. Turns out we needed a medium. Wrote EXCHANGE all over the package but they still thought it was a refund. I emailed once and they fixed the problem and sent out a new one with free shipping. Thanks bc.com
This is definitely North Face's #1 seller for a reason. It's warm, comfortable, reasonably priced, duable, and has a very flattering, feminine cut. Great for zip-and-go to grocery store or down to the bar, also great for sitting around the house or as a mid-layer at 10 degrees. Really happy with the jacket.
I'm considering ordering this jacket & can't seem to decide between a S and a M. Typically, I wear S but, I want it to be large enough for layering yet, not too bulky. Reviews have read both "true to size" and "fitted".
I would definately get a small. My daughter wears both small and medium and the small is perfect. If you always wear small and want to layer the small would be your best choice. The medium would probably be too big even if you wore a thick sweater underneath.
This was a Christmas gift for my daughter..it is of excellent quality. I was pretty happy that it was exactly what she wanted coupled with the huge savings. She loves it for style and comfort.
This was a christmas gift for my daughter..excellent quality and great savings. I will definitely shop at this site for future purchase because of this. My daughter loves her jacket for its fit and style
What should the zipper pull look like on the Khumbu jacket? I have seen it with a "string-like" pull on the zipper and I have also seen it with a cloth pull tag on the zipper. Which should an authentic North Face Khumbu jacket have?
I have this in the alba green color, and I must admit, it's more green than I expected. Luckily, green is my favorite color so I wan't upset. I thought it'd be more gray, though. It's the perfect weight, not too heavy or too light. It keeps me very warm and feels wind-proof, although I'm not sure if it's advertised this way. It's a nice, warm fleece to warm up with by the fire or on a windy day.
This is a great fleece. Warm and super soft. But definitely go 1 size smaller. I am 5'5", 110 lbs and would usually wear a small. Well, I was swimming in the small. I returned it and got an extra small, it is perfect. My biggest worry with ordering the extra small was that the sleeves would be too short, I hate that, they are still plenty long.
I bought the North Face Khumbu fleece jacket for my little sister. She will not take the jacket off (during the day). Every outfit is paired with this jacket. It does not help that she must accessorize her jacket with a the north face back pack, the north face gloves, and the north face boots.
My 16 year-old ordered this to keep up with the trend. EVERYBODY'S got one. She loves it and (not regretfully) so do I! She wears it in the Ohio winter since it's impossible to get these kids to wear ANYTHING resembling a winter coat. Just wished she would have gotten another color besides BLACK! Paired with long underwear and a scarf and she's good to go.
I love it. I would wear it everyday but people might think its my own personal uniform. It fits true to size. For $63 and free shipping, it is the best deal I have ever come across for a Khumbu. I even bought one for my dad in an attempt to make him "hip". Thank you Backcountry!
will you be getting more khumba jackets in black size small? i had gotten a med at a local store and it was too big. we returned it but they had no smalls. having trouble finding this jacket in black and size small. she lives in Chicago and this was a Christmas present . she needs it asap. Chicago winters are brutal. thanks
I am interested in a the women's khumbu fleece jacket in black-size small. You are currently out of stock. Will you be getting any more in stock in the near future?
This jacket was a Christmas gift for my daughter who wanted something to wear over a hoodie. She's a very petite 5'2" bundle of energy and the Women's Small was perfect. She has enough room for the hoodie and still can move freely to enjoy everything winter has to offer. Warm, well-tailored, and the zippered pockets will undoubtedly keep her from losing her keys while bombing down the hill on the toboggan.
i am between 5'6 and 5'7 and have long arms, i generally wear a small or medium but i'm not sure if a medium would be too big or if a small would have too short of arms but i hear north face runs big?
I am 5'7" I would say my arms a normal... I found the small to fit perfectly... its sized a little more generously than the denali if that helps, yet the cut is REALLY flattering
I am 5'3 and I wear a medium, the arms on the north faces I have are a bit long, but tolerable, so you should be ok. But I wouldn't agree with the statements that north faces run to big I think they estimates of sizes they give you are correct.
Rachel, first of all, there's no need to yell. Secondly, you'll need to be more specific: is this the jacket that you're thinking about buying? What size, what's your build? etc., etc., etc., and thirdly, if you'll take the time to read the other reviews and questions below, you'll see that this particular jacket runs a little on the big side.
Excellent by itself indoors for those 'chilly' times or as a layering for colder windy conditions outdoors. Combined with down a parka, it seals out all the gaps and cracks. Hardy color in black. 5 stars.
I purchased this jacket for my daughter. She has been very pleased. It is versitile, a great weight for our moderate climate but easy to layer for colder days ahead. This is actually the second jacket of the exact same style I have purchased for my daughters (I have four daughters). It has been a hit at my house!
