The North Face Jannu GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Load up your pack, lace up The North Face Men's Jannu GTX Hiking Boot, and head for the high peaks. A waterproof breathable Gore-Tex membrane backs up the full-grain waterproof leather upper, and a gusseted tongue keeps rocks and trail debris from getting inside. The Jannu's Northotic ergonomic insole cushions your feet, and full-length perforated nylon shank protects them, and the sticky Vibram outsole grips the most rugged terrain.

Bottom Line: Go over the hills and far away in the Jannu.

I am looking for a waterproof boot that is extremely tough, wide (at least an E) and is trail tested. Some friends and I are going on the CDT in the spring and I would like to have time to break them in. The boot does not have to be lightweight.

The toughest boot I know of is the Limmer Standard and Limmer Midweight. I have a pair of Limmers and an old pair of Montrail Moraines(no longer made) both tough as nails. I also have some vasque sundowners in 12W they are decent for trail hiking and some off trail also they are gore tex, mine leak but my brothers do not. Check out the La Sportiva Makulas in mountaineering boot section closest production boot to the Montrail Moraine.

It is uninsulated, so I would recommend it as a hiking boot.

Hi mhare. This boot works well as a stiff hiking boot suitable for multi-day excursions with a heavy pack. Yes, it has a full nylon shank, but it won't take clip-on crampons that you need for highly technical terrain. If you're looking for something to take you vertically (i.e. ice climbing) check out a true mountaineering boot by Scarpa or La Sportiva.

Not Recomended

I've had the boots for just over a month. The boots were comfortable straight away and still are. The leather seemed a bit supple for a brand new boot but it meant less wearing in ie. no blisters. The fit is great as I have a narrow low volume foot. That's why I've decided to give it 2 stars. It looks the part and even though I had read some other rather negative reviews (on a different website) I decided to go with it as TNF is a brand I've come to trust.

Now for the bad news. After using the boots 5 days a week for 4weeks while doing construction site inspections the midsole has started to come away from the upper! The only thing I've been carrying is my clipboard!!! What's going to happen when I trek 20miles with a 40pound pack on my back! I didn't want to purchase the boot as I noted it was made in China but then again what isn't these days. Luckily I didn't buy these online and the guys at the store that I bought it from know me pretty well so I'm expecting a refund. Needless to say TNF definitely going to lose me as a customer. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOT!!!!

Not if you have exceptionally wide feet. These are more of a medium/standard fit. I would search for something that specifically comes in a wide option. That may suit your needs better.

Confortable but with poor quality

By:
January 4, 2009

Bought a pair, used it for a month in the city, and took them back to the store for a refund, The boots areconfortable but they are made with bad quality materials (either that or bad design). Mine started to loose color from the sole , sweat spots apeareared, and the rubr on the side broke up ! Cant recommend these boots.

They will take strap-on crampons but not clip-on technical crampons. Thank you Angus for your reply Yours Bruce
