The North Face Impulse 1/2 Zip Hooded Pullover - Long Sleeve - Men's - 2008
When the fair-weather runners head inside to their treadmills for the year, break out The North Face Men's Impulse ½-Zip Hooded Pullover, and keep on truckin'. The Impulse utilizes bamboo carbon fabric for increased moisture-wicking and odor control, and has a large front zip for extra ventilation. When the wind picks up, pull on the elastic-rimmed hood, and slip your hands into the monkey-thumb cuffs. Reflective graphics on the biceps keep you visible to those chumps driving to the gym.
Bottom Line: Run through the off-season in the Impulse.
This pullover works great for layering or wearing by itself for active conditions in the cooler weather. I use mine on backpacking trips, and as a snowboarding/general winter activity layer. Thumb loops work great for the layering. Really light, but well designed. Love the hood and the full up neck zip to block the wind, or vent when needed...
I usually wear my North Face jackets and base layers in size L. I ordered a L size of the Impulse from Backcountry and this thing runs huge. It felt more like a XXL to me. I'm 5'8'' 160 lbs for those interested. I'd recommend that you order accordingly.
I haven't noticed it running huge at all. Seems normal range to me. I am about 5'8" and 140 lbs, and I have the small size. Its not big on me, but not terribly tight either. I like it to fit close and layering under other things though...
Great baselayer. I use it alone for cold runs and it's perfect. The zip neck dumps heat and you can unzip the shoulder pocket to add a little extra venting. It wicks really well and blocks wind pretty well. The thumb slits in the cuff are great for keeping it in place wile layering or just keeping your hands a little bit warmer. Fit: I'm 5'9" 140 lbs and a medium fits perfectly.
Keep in mind this is a lightweight layering piece; perfect for over a light baselayer on cool days (~50ish) for hiking or even just out for a jog or walking the dog. The thumb-holes are an excellent feature. It's pretty trim fitting but stretches well so will work for someone bigger (I'm 5'11", 165 and wear a medium).
I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, the only nit-picky thing I have is that the weight of the hood when down tends to pull the neck back and can be a bit irritating against your chin or adams apple.
Pretty good top. Very comfortable and moves really well with you. I did think it would be a little thicker (doesn't block a lot of wind), but it works really well with a long sleeve shirt or t-shirt underneath.
Extremely comfortable. It's still in the mid 80's here so I can't test how warm it keeps me. I'm not sure what the other guy is thinking, but I'm 6'2" at 185lbs. and the Large I ordered fits like a glove. True to size with good length for tall people like myself.
