Protect yourself from the bitter cold and all of Mother Nature's nastiness in the down-insulated, waterproof and breathable Ice Jacket from The North Face. Super-warm 550-fill down keeps you warm in the harshest cold. The removable hood and removable faux-fur trim keep your ears and face from freezing and filter flying snow from your field of vision. The waterproof breathable HyVent shell fabric bolsters the Ice Jacket with impenetrable protection from freezing rain, sleet, or snow. The barrage of pockets stores anything from hats to gloves to music players.
Hi, I'm 6'0 (183cm) 265lbs (120kg), chest 50 inches and sleeve about 35 inches (if I measured the sleeve correctly, from neck to wrist is it?)
What size should I get, XXL maybe? And how close is this Ice Jacket to TNF's McMurdo Parka in sizing? A bit smaller I'm guessing? Cuz I got chance to try McMurdo, and XL was better than XXL. Then again other jackets were better in XXL, so... All help/opinions much appreciated!
Hey Johnny - From you dimensions I would have said XXL, but if you have been comfortable in an XL McMurdo, I would go with the XL. These jackets have very similar fits, and in general run big.
Hi i am 5 '6 about 155 pounds would you say I would be a Size Medium or Size Small. Also how does the ice rate against the mcmurdo and the gotham thanks. Do the mcmurdo and gotham fit like the ice or different let me know
I was looking for a warm, water-wind-proof, breathable jacket to "survive" the Ohio winters.
I'm 6'1 and 165lbs and the M is perfect. It fits comfortable and the sleeves are long enough. It could be longer on the waist but I personally I prefer it like that (more for style reasons). I wore that jacket for up to almost 5F degrees. No problem at all. You can also easily layer with a fleece since it's not tight. (I wear my Khumbu all the time for exapmle). Oh and it looks that it's good with the rain too (as it should be since it's a hyvent)
Things that I like: - The padded hood protects really well. - You are perfectly protected from wind. I was surprised I didn't feel anything. - Even in "warmer" days, around 40-45 days I didn't feel so warm in it. - Rugged construction
Generally I'm very happy with my first TNF jacket. I found it kinda pricy but I think it worths the money. You can also check from live.com/cashback to get a percentage back. I got $30. Not bad. Btw, I got some nice compliments too! :P
Hey Brandon- If you are going to layer, I would go with the XL. It is an oversized jacket to begin with, but I think you will be happy with the XL if you are going to wear it with layers-
I work on a dock where the winds bring the temperature down to -30 degrees and i cannot feel the slightest hint of cold while wearing this. This is the ultimate jacket. Lots of large pockets & very comfortable. I cannot find anything wrong with this.
Write your question here... I am 6ft and 225lbs what size would work for me? I am looking for a coat that will wear long and hopefully protect my backside from the cold Ontario weather. Do you ship to Canada? Thanks
I'm 5' 9" and 170 and this coat was just too big in the chest. Fit well under the arms and was a good length, but it just looked kind of silly and puffy. Sleeves were also a bit long. not a great coat for my body type, i guess.
It all depends on what type of person you are, I would say if you are always cold then yeah it might work. More and more people are skiing in big down jackets and just wearing a synthetic tee shirt underneath. If you are generally a warm person than more than likely with any exertion you are going to overheat. I am a warm person and have the McMurdo which is similar to this and unless I am just sitting around in hella cold weather it gets too hot.
Yes they have the Black in L in stock and yes they generally can ship to an APO address. Your best bet is to call in over the phone and get everything handled. Here is they're customer service phone # 800-409-4502
I have been burned by TNF on sizing before, so I was bound and determined not to let it happen again.
This coat runs a bit short in the chest, but the sleeves are sized correctly. I am 6' 175lbs and the medium is fine. I suppose if you wanted the ability to layer a lot under it, or like your coats a bit looser, the large would be okay. Please ignore the sizing chart posted, it's not that accurate.
The coat itself is comfy. The lining is soft and not itchy, and doesn't pill much. The outer shell is a rough nylon/oxford material that has a nice look to it. The fur on the hood is a bit obnoxious, but you can remove it with the zipper. I found the hood hangs very nicely and doesn't feel too tight or too big.
There's lots of pockets and pouches, but they're hidden well. The velcro over the main zipper is strong but you can still pull it apart with one hand.
Overall I'm very pleased with the performance of the coat and would definitely recommend it.
(Also, the colors in the picture are a tad washed out -- the colors in real-life are much more vibrant. I got "brownie brown" and found it to be a very rich color.)
So you are 5'9" and 216 lbs. I'd go with the XL because you have a broad chest and probably an athletic build. The Large might be a hair restricting through the chest. Cheers.
Write your question here...hi I was just wondering if you guys ship to Sydney australia? If so could you please tell how much it would cost to ship the taupe ice jacket in a medium please. Kind regards, nathan
I bought this jacket for my bf for Christmas. He usually wears medium so I ordered a medium. The fit was quite big though. It fit more like a large. I must say that he can't stop telling me how warm it is!... Anyway, we're exchanging it for a Medium in the Gotham jacket. It's more true to size. Return/exchange process was smooth and BackCountry's customer service rocks!! I even bought a jacket for myself!
What's the primary difference between this coat and the Gotham? All I can tell is that one is two-layer HyVent, and one is one-layer. Does that even matter? Also, I am about 6' tall (maybe an inch less) and about 175lb. Wear a 15.5/34-35 in dress shirts. Medium?
This is prolly the sickest jacket i could have bought. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. If you want a warm coat the is the one to buy. I would buy another one of these if i could afford it. :D
Hey Adrian,The best thing is to jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They can look up if they have any more on order and if so, when they're expected to ship.
My girlfriend got this for me for christmas a few years ago as a total suprise and it's easily the warmest coat i've owned in years. This jacket can really take all the worst mother nature can dish out whether it's freezing rain, arctic blasts or sub zero blizzard conditions, it's stood up to all of that. This jacket is so warm and toasty i feel like i'm cheating the elements. The wind and waterproof HyVent shell is a huge plus as i know my core will be staying dry no matter how bad it gets.I love pairing this with an insulated pair of The Northface Freedom Pant.
Hey Malissia,Depends on how long his arm are. If he's got normal or just a little bit long arm I'd go with a medium. If he's got extremely long arms I'd go with a large. Most likely he'll fit the medium best though. You might also check out some of the line from Canada Goose here on backcountry.com. They make some great gear!Hope that helps.

Hello,I'm very interesting by this north face Ice jacket. But I'm french and I want to know if you can send it in France and if the shipping costs are expensensive?thanks a lot. Have a mery christmasBest regards.Pascal
France has some strict restrictions on what can be sent into their country. So backcountry.com does not ship there. I would recommend finding a friend in the US because The North Face can only be sent to US addresses.
I never received my gear after putting in an inquiry and the compnay sending a replacement that I never received. They gave me a hard time about receiving my money and still havent receive refund. First and last time that I will purchase something from this website.
Mountain hardwear absolute zero sl parka!!! NForget northface!! Ten years ago they were ok. The warmest parka, and i have fifteen parkas is the mountain hardwear absolute zero sl parka! It will protect you and keep you toasty. It is a top quality parka!!!
im 6'3 240 and wanted to know what size i should get i have a smaller neck about 17 and not a big chest soo would a xl be ok? plus my length in arms is about 36/37
I too have the same measurements as you so I can help here. I have several North Face coats both in XL (2 Apex Bionic, SDS 1/4 Zip fleece)and XXL (Pumori, Denali, Windwall) but feel the XL fit best. If you don't plan on wearing many layers such as a sweater underneath, I would go with the XL. The sleeve length will be fine as I also wear 36/37 sleeve. I wear a 46 suit jacket also so the XL fits perfect here. The XXL will feel big in the waist area otherwise. If you do plan to wear a thick underlayer at times then you should go with the XXL though. I hope this helps!
Measure your chest, neck, and sleeve and then check the sizing chart. Sounds like you would wear a Medium or Large. If you own any other TNF jackets, go with what fits you.
