If you're heading into the hills for a week with a single pair of pants, make sure it's the incredibly versatile Women's Horizon Convertible Pants from The North Face. Lightweight but durable ripstop nylon fabric takes the abuse of a bushwhack section on the trail, and the removable legs let you switch to shorts when the temperature gets warm. Feel like a dip in an alpine lake? No problem. Thanks to their quick-drying fabric, The North Face Horizon Convertible Pants will be dry before you get your shoes back on. These backcountry pants even pack a UPF 30 rating for sun protection on bluebird days. *Not available for shipment to Canada.
Bottom Line: The North Face Horizon Convertible Pants take on whatever you encounter.
This is my first convertible pant. I'm 5'2 so the shorter version was a better length for me. Overall, I really liked the pant. I appreciate the different colored zippers to correspond with the different zippable pant legs. Downside-the material was a lot thinner than I expected. I'm sure I'll appreciate it more in the summer when it gets warmer and I can use the wicking action. But ladies beware..you can expect to see VPL (visible panty lines) which leaves me a little self conscious if you have people hiking in back of you. I'm not sure how to correct the problem other than wearing a longer top.
I liked the pockets and I love convertibles. I also admire the quality of North Face products so I'm very disappointed that these don't fit. I don't mind low-riders but these were designed for women with short torsos and I have a long one. There is not enough length from the hip to the knee for me to step up. The waist is the right size so a larger size would be too big around. If you are petite, this should be your pant. I'm sending these back and ordering a pair of Columbias; I have another pair of those that fit my shape.
These are great pants, just what I was looking for. They are very comfortable i.e. just enough room to climb over rocks, trees whatever gets in your way without being baggy. The fabric is light weight and durable. I've walked through knee deep water and kept on hiking, they weren't heavy and dried out well. And if that wasn't enough they also look flattering. I've worn them to casual parties too. I highly recommend these pants.
I took these pants on a month long hike across the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The quick dry fabric was really convenient for rain storms, and the zip away legs were perfect for cool mornings that turned into hot afternoons. I bought a second pair as soon as I got back.
While the ever-elusive size 6 has finally arrived for me in most pants, this size 6 was a bit snug, I am going a size up. Otherwise, the moss green is good looking, I loved the feel of the light weight material, and the legs zip on and off easy enough.
intresting, north face doesnt ship to Canada, Europe, Austrialia or New Zealand...it might not be available in those places, do you have any friends that live anywhere but those places? :-)
Wore these on camping trip/vacation to New Mexico. Also felt very stylish and they were super comfortable. I think I'm addicted to zip=offs now! I ordered the smallest size and had to have the waistband altered and the length hemmed but they fit me great in the seat and hips. Great pants.
Write your question here...are these low rise pants? or do they sit high on the waist? If they don't fit properly can I return them for a different size?
This is definitely not a low rise pant. If you are look for a convertible that is lower rise than this pant, check out the Paramount Porter Convertible. It has a fitted waist instead of an elastic waist and is lower rise.
I love these pants. Its always a part of my pack whenever I head out on a military deployment in the Middle East. It is remarkably comfortable and perfectly suitable for those 100+ degree days in the sandbox! I own two pairs and whenever there are no laundry facilities available (which is usually the case), I would handwash them and these pants are dry by the next day. Anyway, enjoy!
These are a good pair of hiking pants. They are a bit higher in the waist, which suited me, as I use them for backpacking, and nothing is worse than trying to pull your pants up under a 40lb bag...but I digress. The color that I chose was the green which is a pretty moss color which hides dirt stains pretty well. They are of a thin material, yet it seems durable. These pants look quite nice as shorts as well, not looking as if they are zip offs, but actually shorts! They do tend to run a tad large, but who wants skin tight hiking pants anyway! I wish they were a bit thicker so I could use them for longer in the year, but what they lack in thickness, they make up for in quick drying time. I would certainly buy them again. The nicest touch is the elastic type panels on the sides of the waist band. This prevents mooning the hikers behind you when you bend over.
There are 2's in both Beige and Gray. If you're looking for one of the other colors get on the "live chat" and they can look up the expected arrival date of the next shipment.
i have the Horizon Utility Pant in size 6R and was surprised to find that that size was too big for me in the Horizon Convertible Pant. returned for a 4R, which fit...although, on me, an even lower rise would have been preferable. in any case, very comfortable and zipping legs on & off is easy. love the UPF factor and material keeps you cool in the heat. so far used them for kayaking and my soaked butt dried off relatively quickly so i could wear them out to dinner afterwards. look forward to putting them to more use.
Bought these for some summer-time restoration work. Haven't had a chance to sport them but they are comfy, lightweight, and much more flattering than my other pair of convertible pants. Great price too!
On May 30, 2008, my husband, thirteen year old son, and I hiked the Grand Canyon from south rim to the river and back. These pants were very comfortable and kept me cool for this strenuous hike. They were so perfect that I washed them out and wore them when we hiked at Lake Powell and Twin Sisters Mountain in the Rocky Mountain National Park. I do not think you will be disappointed if you purchase these pants.
Are there zippers at the hem for taking the legs off or putting them on over hiking boots? Is the butt double fabric for sitting on granite? Thanks, Suzanne
These seem to be cut for a man. I had to fold the waist over because it was gapping out from my body so much. However, this method worked spendedly with the hip strap on my pack - no elastic or folds of fabric digging into my hip bones. The fabric and zip away legs are nice design features and the reason for the purchase.
I bought these pants for my first hiking experience and loved them. Seemed appropriate for the wide range in temperature we experienced. They really moved well with me and washed easily. The waist was a bit big but easily fixed with a belt. Would buy them again.
Awesome pants. I do lab work from a boat deck and frequently get my pants wet but these dry fast enough it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Lots of squatting and leaning over and no problems with being too tight. Definitely would buy them again.
Bought this specifically for a trip the the Galapagos Islands. Very practical (lightweight, drys within 3 hours) and it fits the typical feminine figure. The legs are easily removed as well as reconnected. Would recommend to anyone going on hikes, biking or any activity in which you want to be covered from the sun.
These pants, ordered in my normal size, didn't even come close to fitting. I was unable to button them by several inches and the rise, well that was the real treat they barley covered my backside. Please note that the rise is very short and will not fit a long torso. If you are buying them, size up by at least one size. I think the sizing is more appropriate to a petite then a regular misses.
Love the pants. Because I hafve long legs I was worried about the length but they are the perfect length! Material is soft and light...I love them! Perfect for my African Safari vacation!
