Pull on The North Face Men's Horizon Convertible Pant, and leave your shorts at home. These convertible pants zip off mid-thigh so you stay comfortable while wandering. Pants have their advantages in the backcountry: They cover you from the sun, keep you warm, and protect your shins while bushwhacking. But on hot days, nothing's better than shorts (except maybe being naked). The North Face used abrasion-resistant, quick-drying nylon in the Horizon Pants so you can scramble on rocks and wade through rivers, and they'll hold up. *These pants run small. We suggest ordering a size larger than your regular size.
Bottom Line: Bring along The North Face Horizon Convertible Pants and leave your shorts behind.
These are good, light-weight convertibles. They run smaller than the sizing chart might lead you to believe. I'm 6'4'' 205lbs with a 33'' waist. I eventually ended up with the XL/ Long, after returning the L/L. They were too short and constrictive through the thighs. The waist is larger than ideal, but these have a draw string and belt loops. I commonly have this problem due to my "athletic" build. Overall these are good pants. Not my favorite, or the best I own, but they do the job.
Do these pants have a pilling problem? I have a pair of North Face Scrambler pants I use for rock climbing, and after just a few times out, they started pilling like crazy.
Do these pants have a pilling problem? - No....I have 4 pairs and they have been washed many times...no pilling.....Great pants.....they do run small so order one size larger than what you would normally order.
I read as many reviews I could before I bought these pants. The only thing I have to say is they do seem to run slightly snug but well. They also run a bit on the long side, but this isn't bad.
Too tight in the thighs. Length seemed to be true, but had to return them for a larger size. No idea how many stars to give as i am still waiting for my next pair.
I have had these awhile and I love them. They seem to be very durable and are extremely comfortable. I use the zip off legs all the time when I get hot on hikes. They are very light and pack well. they dry incredibly fast also. I highly recommend these pants.
I bought these pants for hiking / backpacking. So far they have lived up to everything I have thrown at them. The elastic waistband is very comfortable, but if you need extra support or reassurance, there is a draw string as well. Compared to other convertible pants, you hardly notice the zipper for the zip-offs. I know on some other pants that can be uncomfortable on your knees after a day of hiking. I highly recommend these pants!!
I have taken these on a few trips into the north califonia coast, and hiked through some nasty rocky waters and rocky beaches and over many logs and never a rip or tear.(and i always stay off the trail and try my own route, kinda like a little kid in the backyard creek.haha) They dried very quick and are very light. They do run small though I am a large normally and went with the xl. May need long johns when it drops to mid 20s. Great pants!
I really like these pants now that I sent back the large and got xl. The North Face size chart is wrong. If you are a 36 to 38 you need to order xl. I don't think it is fair that I had to pay for return shipping because of this error.
My husband bought a pair of these and loved them so much he had to have another. Great for hiking the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and Rocky Mountain National Park.
i am 186 cm tall 82 kg and 33 inches inseam, 38 waist and 44 hip, for this i thought that i need an L size, but chating with a gearfreak he told me to get an xl because he has one and fits small. The XL fits great everywhere, except that it is a little long on the legs, may a short would be better for me, i got the regular one. it has a snap closure, and a adjustable drawcord on the waist, also it is stretchable on the hips, and has belt loops- the hand pockets are very comfortable, the left one also has zip closure. the side pockets are too small, only fits 3 fingers, i think it's for keys or coins, or mobile, or a small mediaplayer. the backpockets has button closure. the zips on each leg have different colours, so you don't get confused, and the legs zippers at the bottom are very convenient so you do not have to take your shoes off when it gets hot. They are very lightweight. i got the soil brown, it is darker than the picture, and for 36 bucks it's a nice quality product take my advice get a size bigger than you think
These pants are well made, but not meant for someone with larger (cyclist) legs. I have a 33" waist and 31" inseam and found these pants way too tight in the legs. The waist fits and length are fine, but I'd recommend sizing up one size if you have well muscled legs.
These pants fit my husband well. He wished the closure was a button though instead of a snap. The snap seems strong though. He didn't say anything about tightness in the thighs.
I wear 33x30 pants and bought these in M Short - perfect length and waist.
They're lightweight, the zip off legs is great, and they dry quickly.
Overall they're comfortable, but everyone mentions that they're "tight in the thighs" - I only noticed that to be a problem when I was taking a big step up onto a rock or something. Didn't bother me too much but I guess it was enough that I'd try a different pant next time. Buy them and try them to see if it's an issue for you.
Also it would be nice if they had a clip belt built in like my wife's REI ones - these just have a drawstring.
But I can't. Lightweight, Dry's in less than 5 minutes on a warm day, Zippered side pockets were great when I discovered them. Best purchase I have made recently, so I went and bought another pair. Probably gonna end up with 4 in the end. I normally wear a 38" waist @ 230lbs 6'2" and XL fits great.
I LOVE these pants! They're incredibly lightweight for summer activities/lounging and also really durable. I use mine for climbing and our granite slabs are no match for the durable nylon material. I'm glad to see that this site has over 300 pairs in stock now, because I just bought one of EVERY color. Thanks!!!! Your site rocks
I usually wear a size 32x30 pant. Although the length of the med short size was good, I felt it was just a bit too constricting around my thighs, almost like a pair of well fitting jeans. I had to opt for size large short
I returned them, to small, tried to exchange them, you did not have it avail. I ordered from someone else. You guys have been very dissapointing lately. Your inventory levels are inadequate. This is the 2nd time I was forced to order something from a competitor. You have always been my first choice when looking to buy an item, that may change soon.
