The North Face Himalayan Mitten

Lofty 800-fill down insulation with PrimaLoft and a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Windstopper shell make The North Face Himalayan Mittens tough enough for the highest, coldest places on earth. Whether you're climbing Everest, going to the South Pole, or just camping in the dead of winter, the Himalayan Mittens keep your hands toasty. The North Face added Pittards leather palms for extra durability and grip, so you can climb without your mitts getting ripped to shreds.

Bottom Line: Go to the highest and coldest places on the planet with the incredibly warm Himalayan Mittens from The North Face.

Yes they are but you'll want to either hand wash or use the hand wash cycle. Extra rinse and don't use fabric softner. If you're open you might also try the Outdoor Research Alti Mitten. I found them to feel not so slippery on the palm. these have a synthetic insulation on the palm side of your hand which literally felt slippery when you gripped things. Kind of strange and maybe a little anal retentive but that was just what I found.Hope that helps.

think twice

I thought I'd be getting a warm mitten with these but was a little disappointed. When I first used them the tempurature was around ten degrees, my activity was light to moderate. Around 45 minutes I felt my thumbs starting to get cold and had to move them to the finger area. Also, when trying to grab an object the inside seems to slip and not grab easily. For $100+ these should be better designed.

They'll be big enough. They're designed to be gauntlets just for that purpose. The drawstrings will allow you to cinch them tight.

Very Good Mittens

By:

These mittens are very warm. I had read that some thought they were slippery but I haven't noticed that. They are very roomy inside allowing you to wear an inner layer of glove and remove your hands for detail work. I am very satisfied.

Great Mittens

By:
February 17, 2009

I've had these mittens for a few months now and have had the chance to take them up to 14,000+ft in winter conditions, as well as have them in skiing conditions of wind chills around the 30 below mark and I've got to say that these were worth every penny. I often wear them with light neoprene/spandex liners, with the addition of which my hands feel invincible. My only gripe is that they may be too warm. e.g. I wore them on a pretty rigorous snowshoe hike/climb in temperatures in the low thirties and my hands got too warm and had to draw them out of the mitts from time to time. Obviously, dexterity sucks, but having said that you can still preform basic tasks (e.g. zipping/unzipping your coat, grip a pole, etc.) I read the last review that gave this item 2 stars and my only thought there is that if you're not generating any heat, no amount of insulation is gonna do you any good. Two thumbs up here. Far and away the best mitts i've ever owned.
