The North Face Heron 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season - 2007
The North Face Heron 23 is a roomy, lightweight three-season tent that's ideal for a two-person backpacking or camping trip. The Heron 23 Tent's steep sidewalls and 41 inches of head room help maximize the 28 square feet of floor space. The added front vestibule provides an additional 7.4 square feet of gear storage. At a scant four pounds 13 ounces, the Heron 23 is light enough for three-season backpacking trips. The Heron 23's freestanding design allows you to set up the tent and easily move it to avoid rocks and uneven surfaces. Internal pockets allow you to keep a headlamp, a book, and other quick-grab supplies handy. Added gear loops allow you to use The North Face number one Gear Loft with the Heron 23.
Bottom Line: Ample storage, sleep space, and plenty of mesh for ventilation make The North Face Heron 23 an ideal 2-Person backpacking Tent.
This tent is a great tent for the money. It is on the smaller size, but at under four pounds, that is to be expected. I spent 18 days in mine on a bike tour with my boyfriend and we were very comfortable. We have also used the fly-only pitching feature to do some snow camping and it was fabulous in that situation also. It is a snap to set up (less than 5 minutes, easy), and very tough and durable given the light weight. Most of the reviews on here that are negative appear to be from people that didn't do enough research to know exactly what kind of tent they were ordering. However, if you are looking for a lightweight, 2-person, 3 season tent that is simple and durable, this tent is the trick. If you want more space and dont mind the extra weight, you might find another product that works better for you. Cheers!
spent 4 days on the beach on olympic peninsula in washington. cold and wet but tent was adequate for one person and a dog, i dont mind carrying a little more if I have room to flop around. The vestibule which is inconvenient but what the hey, you make do right? great pole design which made set up easy even in the pitch dark and raining, less than 5 minutes. overall not bad stuff, altho the dog would have preferred a hotel room...
used it on a 4 day beach trip on the olympic peninsula coast. cold and wet, but the tent did ok. didnt notice any condensation inside. great one person and a dog tent, sets up quick (less than 5 minutes) weight is ok
I liked this tent because it's made well and sets up really fast, about 3 minutes. It stands up well to rain, did have some condensation on the inside.
Stupidly, I ordered this without checking the dimensions. We have a basic 2-person tent and wanted a roomier one with a better rainfly for us and our dog. When we set this up in the basement it seemed smaller than the 2-person we have now! Probably it's a great tent if you're backpacking (good quality, pole design is ingenious), but calling it a 3-person is a joke.
I ordered this tent because i was under the impression that it would be a 2 door tent - wrong! It turned out to be a one door tent..no access to back vestibule. And it barely has enough space for one person and gear. Two people and gear would not fit in this tent and the vestibule it not big enough to place even one large backpack. I was not very happy with this purchase for this price and am planning to return it and exchange for another model.
