The North Face Hedgehog Mid GTX XCR Hiking Shoe - Women's
The North Face made the Women's Hedgehog Mid GTX XCR Hiking Shoe to be as sturdy and stable as a hiking boot but lighter weight and more breathable than hikers for agility on the trail. The mid-cut Hedgehog's uppers are abrasion-resistant and breathable, and EVA midsoles and heel air pods absorb shock and provide rebound so you can go longer. A TPU shank protects your foot from stones but won't weigh you down or compromise responsiveness. The Gore-Tex XCR membrane doesn't let water in, so you can go straight through the stream instead of hopping awkwardly across on boulders.
Bottom Line: Adventure racers, speed hikers, and those who just want a versatile shoe for hiking and trail running will appreciate the mid-cut Hedgehog.
I just got my new boots and have worn them out twice. They are really lightweight and are comfortable. They are probably the most comfortable boots I have worn (and I wear a lot of boots because I work outside). I like them because they are comfortable, stylish, and fit well. There is plenty of room for thicker socks. They were true to size. I plan on using them a lot.
I've had foot surgery and have been told to wear a rocker sole or (and) a steel shank. I am not familiar with the term "injection-molded TPU" What does TPU stand for? Thanks
I wore these boots all day yesterday while viewing waterfalls and hiking in the mountains in Japan. They are awesome! They supported my feet and ankles perfectly, and I didn't have any problems on pavement, wet trails, or rocks. They were 1000 times more comfortable than wearing regular running shoes, so they were worth the money. At first I wasn't sure whether to get the low-rise hikers (which look a little cuter to me), but I am so happy that I bought the mid-rise....my ankles felt much more secure while hiking. No soreness, blisters, etc. today. I will wear these again and again.
This site's shipping is unbelievably fast. I live at an FPO address in Japan, and the quick shipping (not to mention FREE shipping over $50) is much appreciated. Other sites charge a fortune for shipping, and it still takes weeks to get our purchases. Thank you, BC, for such great service!
I don't think it's fair to consider the 1-star review that didn't comment on the shoes but rather asked another reviewer about wearing their shoes out twice. Wearing the shoes out twice means that person has literally worn them OUTSIDE twice. I also don't think the 2-star review titled "Deceptive boot" should be considered twice since both reviews state the same opinion. It messes up the rating system when people do this.
I'm giving 5 stars and would give more if I could. These boots are great.
Is the fit of the mid hiking GTX XCR mid hiking shoe similar the the fit of the GTX XCR hiking shoe? Im thinking of getting a pair with extra support of the ankle and knees if the comfort level is the same.
I wanted a shoe that had support and grip of a hiking boot but not the unmovable feel of a boot. This shoe was it. I hiked and climbed Big Bend in them for two day and had no problems. This was basicly right out of the box no break-in time. They have great ankel support but they fit like a running sneaker. I could feel my toes and feet so that I felt like I could grip the rocks better. I don't like regular hiking boots because they are too stiff and I can't feel my toes griping. I think I could run miles in the boots and think I had sneakers on. I am more than pleased with these shoes.
I took a chance on these shoes to wear into the Grand Canyon, and I'm glad I did! After a few short hikes in the foothills near my home, they broke in nicely! Our trek was a one day in and out and took 12 hours! No blisters ... very comfortable! Highly recommended.
I broke these boots in on quite a few short hikes (under 10 mi) and they seemed worthy. As soon as I took them on a distance hike they became extremely uncomfortable and painful after 10 miles...they may be worthy of shorter wear but if you want a versatile hiking boot to meet your every need, like most people, DON'T buy these boots!
I normally wear a size 8 1/2 shoe or sandal.Live in sandals. Confused on whether to get the 8 1/2 or 9. The 9 is definitely roomier but do you really need the extra room? Will they give a little? **does the refund policy apply if you purchase from a store
I just tried these on at a store and have always worn an 8.5 shoe. They only had size 8 and I almost bought those. I tried them on with medium thickness hiking socks and they were comfortable! I tried on some 9's and my feet were swimming in the shoes so I'd say you'd have to wear pretty thick socks to fit them.
Hi,I just got these boots in the mail today. I too normally wear an 8 1/2 shoe, but I always buy a 9 for running shoes, so I bought a 9 for the boots. I'm glad I did. Once I put on hiking socks and allow for some swelling, the 9 will feel more comfortable. (I have a wide foot, so I like the extra wiggle room.)
I bought these just a week before 5 days hiking in Yosemite. Had ZERO discomfort or blisters or anything - felt like the added ankle support really helped. Love 'em!
Very comfortable shoes - bought them for a hiking/climbing trip in the San Rafael Swell and spent 3 days wandering around the desert in them with no break-in time.
